Broadway In The Park

I am no fan of outside theater, but my friend talked me into it. Favor for Favor. I went and it turned out to be cool. Surely not as bad as I thought it was. We saw of course one of my favorite shows, «The Wizard of Oz.» I found myself popping mosquitoes laughing and crying. When I look around I saw other people and their families really having an enjoyable time. So again, I don’t like outside theater, but this was a one of a kind experience, not to mention the actors were on Q., for a community theater show. The costumes were bright and colorful and the children made it a delight to be at the show. I would definitely recommend attending Broadway In The Park at least once, you’ll find yourself having some fun.

I love Broadway in the Park! It’s such a neat, welcoming theater experience. My friend and I went with her boyfriend and his daughter for the Wizard of Oz, and it was seriously magical. The theater performance is on point for the great local community theater in the south bay area, so you are still getting a phenomenal show from really talented performers. Their costumes are amazing and their sets are awesome — I really thought because this was an outdoor production that the sets would be very basic, but they actually were better than some sets in a theater! They actually made it snow on us — I’ve only ever had that happen at the El Capitan, and it was the COOLEST!
It’s really a community event, and it made me feel like I was contributing because they feature local performance groups as a pre-​show, which makes it fun to get there early and support other groups. The food trucks are fun, and their pricing for in the park snacks are really fair.
The best part though was the families. I love to perform with local theater groups and know that it can at times be inaccessible to small kids. Other grumpy theater goers may not be the most welcoming to a 5 year old, but Broadway in the Park is perfect for them. It’s a fun family adventure that makes theater accessible, and I am so glad to be so close to it! Plus you can bring your own wine.

We really enjoyed this summer’s production of Wizard of Oz. If you are a diehard, arrive by 5:15 when the box office opens to get in line and buy tickets. Seating areas are arranged by seating type: blanket, low back beach chair and high back camping chair. We brought our beach chairs and a picnic dinner, and had a fun evening.
The show starts at 7pm with a community show, which perhaps is unnecessary and does make the evening LONG. Bring a jacket and a blanket. Nights can be COLD! (Blankets are available to rent for $ 2.) Heads up: the show ended a little before 10:30, which is a SUPER late night for kids.

I moved to ES this summer and heard this event was great for the family and I also happened to have free kids admission so I got tickets for the family.
The tickets are flexible so you purchase them and then you can attend any of the nights the show is running.
We went on a Friday. When they open the gates around 6, the areas fill up quickly. They organize you by whether you have a blanket, low back or high back chair.
They sell popcorn and candy and hot chocolate at intermission (which was a nice touch bc it’s chilly in ES at night!) and there was this amazing food truck-​Rounds-​which I will Unilocal separately!
The production we saw was Wizard of Oz. I had low expectations and ended up very impressed with it. My 6 and 4 year old were captivated the whole time and they now run around saying «follow the yellow brick road» and «oh eee oh, eeee oh oh…(you know whatever the witches minions chant?) The actors were fantastic and I highly recommend this event. Will for sure go back in the years to come.

My family absolutely LOVES Broadway In The Park! I believe this is their 4^th year and we’ve seen every performance. Sound of Music was my personal favorite, but we also enjoyed Music Man and Joseph and The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. We’re so looking forward to seeing Wizard of Oz this year. I am so impressed with the professional quality of their performances. I’ve attended a lot of community theater, but BITP is the best I’ve seen. The singers and actors are top notch… amazing, outstanding talent. The direction, music, sets, costumes… all extremely well done. It’s very organized and everyone is so helpful and nice! My kids (now 7 and 9) really love musical theater and I give the credit to BITP. They sit through the entire production completely riveted. I can’t recommend it enough. If I could give more stars, I would. If you haven’t been to a performance yet, you’re missing out. You need to go! One tip… evenings can get chilly in El Segundo, so definitely bring a jacket. Thank you so much BITP for coming to our community every year, we’re so lucky! We love you!

I have only been to one show, but it was last year’s production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. I absolutely loved the atmosphere of the festival, with friendly staff and an inviting layout with lawn chairs and blankets. The production itself was amazing, with excellent lighting, costumes and music. I enjoyed the community aspect of it, as the show I saw featured a promo for a local studio. I am so thankful for what Broadway in the Park is doing!
