The Sushi Place & Lounge

Last time qe came for a nice night out. It was great, drinks, sushi, help, everything was fine.
Wow what a chage. Started out with great yasting food and the mushroom caps were a good starter for the night. The we ordered 3 rolls an flavored tea. Like I said previous, sushi was good, but soon lookie at the menu, turnwd out to be priced at the high end. Also ice tea with flavor was 3.00 and refills were another 1.00 each time, wow rip off. Water down tea with a lot of ice then flavor on top.
We were with friends and we literally waited a half hour the my friend had to get up go over to ty he manager to ask for the check. No more refills if we wamtex them and not even a «would you like to see desert menu?»
Sorry to say we were left and probably could have left without paying. Bill was 4 people good amount of food and ended up with a 200.00 bill. We’ll see if we go back again and let the server know with the tip he was lucky to get with the poor performance at the end of the meal.

I feel that the sushi place is over priced for what they are serving. The service was somewhat less than average, as was the food. Last time I came here I ordered the lunch box and the chicken breast was dry and overlooked as was the rice.

Waiter was extremely nice but not efficient enough. It took use 15 minutes to put our order in and once they brought it out it was wrong. It took another 15 minutes for them to bring out the correct order. We spoke to the manager and all she did was offer us free ice cream. I didn’t expect a free meal but I did expect a better apology.

This is not a standard sushi restaurant. They give you three sauces instead of soy sauce, wasabi, and ginger. Service was okay. Most of the rolls are aimed towards people who don’t like sushi to begin with. Deep fried, cream cheese, etc.

Definitely one of my favorite places to get sushi in town. I am always content when I go to this place, their sushi is always fresh and delightful; and by all means very affordable.

I’ve really never had anything here except the panko eal role, which I think is pretty good. But this place doesn’t not compare to other sushi places around. It’s very basic, and something straight from Juarez.
The place itself doesn’t have a great décor. The tables are always uneven, one of my biggest pet peeves is when a table rocks back and fourth.
Be prepared for the service to suck, I started to just order take out when I’m craving the eal roll because it’s that bad. Always in a rush to get you out even though it’s always empty. You can tell managers and owners are never around.
This particular location doesn’t have a liquor license and only can serve a small selection of beers and only has very few types of sake. So don’t hit it up if your looking for some drinks.
Final advice: go to their Sunland location much better!

Literally worst sushi I have ever had and I love in NM. You should change your name from the Sushi Place to The Shitty place.

This place has better sushi than over half of the places that serve sushi in this town but it is not the best by far.
The menu itself is rather unusual in that there’s a lot of weird sushi options. It made me confused just reading it.
There are a TON of SPELLING ERRORS on the menu. I know Japanese, Korean, Spanish, and English so it is really difficult for me to tolerate the naiveté of this restaurant.

Okay, so you’re looking for a place to grab some sushi with a couple of your closest friends… you’ve stumbled about The Sushi Place and you’re wondering if it’ll meet your standards… you’re starting to read the reviews and you’re thinking aloud, «What the hell? Equal amounts of 2 and 4 star reviews?! This doesn’t make any sense!»
Ask yourself the following questions:
1. Do you eat sushi very often?
2. Do you know the difference between sashimi and nigiri?
3. Would you eat a roll with nothing but raw fish?
4. Is quality over quantity important to you?
If you said ‘no’ to any of the questions above, you’ll do just fine at TSP. It’s just generally okay (a little overpriced for the quality might I add) and is more than fine for the person who isn’t really a huge fan of sushi, but will partake in sushi festivities once every 3 – 12 months. And I can actually see how it could be rather appealing to someone who isn’t a sushi fan or is being introduced to sushi. It’s like the training wheels for sushi places in EP.
I had a hankering for some bite-​sized pieces of rolled heaven, and since I try to eat at different places, and since my boyfriend said TSP was alright, and since we had some time to kill, and since we were already in the neighborhood, and since he was pretty sure he liked their Geisha Rolls we made the stop.
There was a hostess at the front that was nice enough, but she did seat us at a table that was still being cleaned. I really think she should’ve waited to seat us at that particular table or sat us somewhere else because all a host’s job includes is making sure guests are seated at a clean table… and maybe, just maybe cashing out guests. That’s literally it. She had one job. Our server lagged a bit during our meal, but after reading a few reviews I realized this is the norm here for whatever reason. Although I will give points for the fact that she was all smiles which kept the mood light.
The restaurant was a decent size with about six TVs playing various games, light music in the background, bright lights, high-​ish tables, wall booths, and a quiet buzz from nearby conversations.
As I was perusing the menu, I noticed almost every single roll had the addition of some filler ingredient. I saw lots of carrots and asparagus on the menu. I’m all for a sushi joint creating their own rolls, but don’t call a Caterpillar Roll a Caterpillar Roll if it’s not actually a Caterpillar Roll. Since when is a Caterpillar Roll made with soy wrap, shrimp tempura, and carrots… please, somebody tell me. The addition and changes to such well-​known rolls told me that TSP caters directly to sushi newbies. After spending a ridiculous amount of time actually reading the menu, I settled on their Rainbow Roll and some kind of coconut-​mango roll that I can’t recall the name of. I was reminded again that TSP was for the sushi novice when I was informed that neither one of my rolls had cream cheese. Ummm okay… and?
Our soups came out first and I actually appreciated how strong the broth was and the good portion of nori. I didn’t find any tofu in Charles’ bowl or my own, but again I think this might be done to slowly introduce EP locals to the amazing world of Japanese food.
The rolls I was unfortunately less than impressed with. They weren’t bad per se, but they didn’t hit the spot. Although the pricing was typical pricing for sushi in El Paso, it tasted like a lower grade then what is served in a lot of my favorite local sushi spots. I don’t really have much to say about the Rainbow Roll… it wasn’t the freshest, but it wasn’t spoiled. Specifically the salmon on it tasted kind of dried out, not really the smooth, slightly sea-​tasting deliciousness that I love. The other roll was where I had a hard time. The use of two different types of shrimp (large shrimp and cocktail shrimp) was unappealing. The tempura shrimp was actually good, but the fresh cocktail shrimp mixed in with the mango salsa? actually took away. It was almost too much shrimp and the textures just didn’t mesh well. I think this could be a totally good roll if they cut out the use of the cocktail shrimp (and they’d save some money). There was just too much going on and it needs to be toned back a tad… simplify it a bit.
It short, TSP is okay. Service leaves something to be desired, but they’re happy to be there. The rolls are good if you’re trying out sushi or you’re not that big on raw, raw, raw. You’re still going to pay regular sushi prices here, but it’s nothing astronomical.

Not a place I would ever choose to eat at, but a personal friend wanted to grab lunch here… To get straight to the point
Poor Service (Mixed up order twice)
Poor Food Quality (sushi was low grade and not even close to fresh.
Please avoid this restaurant unless you want greasy americanized low quality food.
Go here if you have no taste and want to shovel down «sushi» and mound of appaling noodles.

Pros:
Staff was super friendly and our waiter was nice, very attentive. The restaurant atmosphere is wonderful for date night. Clean and calm.
The appetizer (calamari) was great! So tender and fluffy! If you can imagine good calamari. The breading was flavorful and crisp.
Cons:
The sushi was awful. It all tasted the same and all had a mushy consistency. The caterpillar roll was drenched in eel sauce. It only looks pretty but looks are definitely deceiving this time around.
First and last time at this sushi place.

This is a good place for lunch. I got the Meal #1 ($ 12) from the Lunch Combo menu which includes an appetizer of edamame, your choice of vegetarian or white rice, miso soup, crab salad and your choice of a sushi roll, which you choose from a list. On the Lunch Combo menu, there are a total of 3 options priced at $ 12, $ 13 and $ 16 dollars, depending on what you want to eat and how much food you’d like. It’s offered between 11am-​3pm Monday through Friday.
They are creative with naming their rolls (I got the El Paso) and the place is clean, hip and modern with a full bar. In the day time it was great for lunch and the portions were decent. In the evenings I assume it becomes more of a bar/​lounge and there is an extended seating area with long couches near the back of the room which is more suited to that atmosphere.
Seems like this place recently opened and when I came, they were also setting up an outdoor seating area with sturdy-​looking brown wicker benches and tables. The service was friendly and pretty much faultless. It wasn’t too busy at lunch, but had enough diners to keep the place lively. If I’m ever in Texas again, it would be neat to try coming here in the evening.

This place is not good.
The service is subpar. The waitress came back to our table at least 4 times to ask me to clarify my order and what I wanted to drink (it was water, by the way).
After 20 minutes of her coming back and forth, she came back just to tell me they didn’t have what I wanted.
I got a sashimi plate instead. The cuts are awkwardly big to make you feel like you’re getting your money’s worth but you’re definitely not. The quality of the fish was not good. It tasted like it was a few days old with a really spongy texture.
Just, don’t come here. Overpriced for little quality and incompetent service.
