This place was amazing. I ordered the Shrimp Cocktail and was stunned by the portion. PLENTY of shrimp all big and juicy!!! Wife order the Combination Plate(chicken, fish, and shrimp) with fries and she loved it. She’s normally not a fish person but she didn’t even want to share. Prices were fair and food was outstanding… what more could you ask for? Definitely coming back next time I can.

I decided to write this review truly because Mac’s Place DESERVES it. The food here is excellent and the dining area is cozy. Gelane is an amazing restaurateur and an awesome chef.

This is such a great place! Like the other reviewers I would like to remind you that the menu at the downtown location isn’t long but trust me when I say that it’s short and sweet for a reason. I had the fried shrimp with fries and my husband had the combo plate which comes with fish, shrimp and chicken. The plates were absolutely delicious. Not too salty or sour and the side sauces just combined the plates to perfection. We also had a clam chowder soup and it was fantastic. This place really takes me back to London. It’s amazing to have a nice local fish eaterie were they really master the flavors and cooking so well. Two thumbs up!

I was downtown with a friend and she was craving fried fish so we figured we would try Mac’s. All in all, i found Macs to be pretty good at what it does: fried seafood. Mac’s is perfect for a nice lunch when downtown. Its not a place I would go out of the way for but its quality downtown fare. I’d give it 3.5 if I could. I ordered fried oysters(6)as an appetizer and they came out first(and fast). These bad boys were huge. I really liked the breading. Lots of oyster, hot, and juicy. I was a fan. For main meal, my friend ordered fried fish and fries. French fries were nice and crispy. Same batter for fish as the oysters(which is good). I got there lunch special which was southwest soup(cucumber, fish, jalapeño bits, shrimp, and other stuff). I was already pretty full on the oysters but this soup was excellent. Very generous portions of white fish and shrimp. It had a nice subtle heat that slowly got my nose running(attractive i know). All of that food for just 18 bucks. Service was polite and prompt. Honestly, there really weren’t any negatives except the décor is very kitcheny and the location isnt ideal for repeat visits for me. The food won’t blow you away and isnt unique(although the southwest soup was pretty cool) but you will get great value for your buck and quality food.

If your looking for a place to eat downtown this place is awesome! I got the shrimp tacos and they were so good. The service was fast, the owner was friendly and attentive. The shrimp was fried and came with fried rice. I also had a piece of pineapple cheesecake(which was the special cheesecake of the day). It was the perfect ending to my meal.

Located in the heart of downtown El Paso. There is nothing fancy about this place, if you’re looking for fine sit down dining keep exploring. This is a small hole in the wall joint where you can eat in or grab it to go. Being from Wisconsin I’ve had my share of Friday fish fry. This joint runs right up there with the best of them. Again I’m not referring to fine dining. This is a you only have a short amount of time to grab something type place. Very quick service and the staff was very friendly. The fish & chips offer a generous portion of filets and fries. The fish has a crispy coating with interesting flavor. Very pleased to have found this place while roaming around downtown.

Amazing gem in El Paso. Had the clam chowder with bite size clams chopped up with green onion, very good. Next, I had the fried oysters, OMG the best I have ever had. You have to try these jumbo oysters that are lovingly coated and fried and served with cut lemon wedges and fantastic homemade tarter sauce. Everything is homemade and the owner, Gelaine does all the cooking. Next I had the blackened fresh salmon with yellow rice and a beautifully composed salad and sweet tea. What a surprise in the downtown area of El Paso and off the beaten path. I will definitely be back myself and with some of my customers.

Fish and shrimp tacos are BOMB.COM awesome place downtown to grab lunch, very fast and attentive service. I work in Union Plaza and it’s a nice quick bike ride over to the office district. Price is about 10 $ a person regardless of what you get. Place isn’t all that nice but believe the food is well worth it! I’ll be becoming a regular!

I was on my way to find another restaurant when I walked by this place and decided to give it a try. Upon walking in I was greeted by the cutest little waitress in training. They provided suggestions which makes ordering easy but I could not avoid trying the blackened fish which came out fast, just spicy enough that I did not require my usual hot sauce over perfectly cooked rice with a surprisingly yummy spinach salad. I was pleasantly surprised with the slivered almonds and dried cranberries. They kept my tea full and I never had to ask for anything. Whenever I am in the area again I will definitely come back.

They were busy but sheesh it took an hour to get a sandwich… Terrible service, rude staff, the owner actually screamed at me, over cooked fish. I will never go back here nor will I ever recommend it to anyone.

We always hit up Mac’s on Lee Trevino which has never let me down. So we were at the Chihuahua’s game and decided to try out their downtown location. I like it! Food is so so good. The owner is so happy and peppy. Must try– clam chowder and the fish and chips. Can’t decide? Get the combo plate :)

Like the sign says, «Not fancy, just good». And it’s really, really good. The blackened chicken sandwich came with golden brown fries and a side of ketchup. The chicken was juicy, spicy, and perfectly grilled, topped with cheese and baby spinach leaves, and it was wonderful. I can’t wait to have this again! If you’re downtown and you like southern style food, try this place out.

Cheap eats in Downtown. I like, I like a lot! This is a good stop when your craving some seafood cooked Southern style. This used to be Kipp’s Cheesesteak and minus the $ 1 bill ceiling and vintage knick-knacks, they’ve pretty much kept it the same. Walls are still blue, the chalkboards on the bottom of the wall are still there, the tables didn’t change. It just looks a little cleaned up. We went for an early lunch on Tuesday and surprisingly it never really got packed, but it could’ve just been the day. Our waitress was super nice and another waiter was even sweet enough to swing by and bring us refills even after we had already packed up and paid our bill. The menu is small, but it doesn’t need to be any bigger. Essentially you can have fried or blackened chicken or fish that can be presented in a couple of different ways like sliders, tacos, or as is. There are a few other things on the menu like the clam chowder, shrimp cocktail, and fried oysters. I opted for the fried fish with fries while Charles went with the six piece fried oysters. These are filling portions. My fried fish came with four plump pieces and the batter was delish! Charles wasn’t able to finish the oysters because those were a pretty big size too so the four piece will probably be the go-to from now on. And they also have sweet tea! I really liked that they serve their food up on Styrofoam because this is the kind of food that you can eat on the go with your fingers. Mac’s Place Downtown was a great place for us to grab a bite and talk. And the staff is great. Our waitress was even nice enough to give us new sauces for our take-home boxes.
