For a place that has Tamales in its name, the tamales here aren’t that great. I’ve been on the search for best tamales in El Paso and so far Lupita’s is the best. I tried the pork, chicken, and cheese and I think Lupita’s beats this place in all 3 categories. The bakery aspect of Gussie’s is pretty good though.

Assorted baked goods, such as cookies, turnovers, and donuts. Oh yes, it was good! I had save my pumpkin turnover for later lol. They also sell tamales and I loved it! When purchasing grab a tray and some liners, then feel free to pick and take the goodies yourself. They charge per piece of course. Then you stand in line to pay. Only downside was parking is small and there’s only one table for seating. Wished there were more so people could enjoy these delicious goodies! Must try.

One of the best panaderias around!!! The staff is always super nice! I love Pan Dulce so this is pretty much my go to place on the weekends or whenever my sweet tooth is having a tad of a craving. I’ve had the tamales from here and they are both full and flavorful! You are never hungry after eating one(although i do knock out around 3 when i buy them). Best day to go is a saturday afternoon and just gorge yourself to all of their amazing panes! Plus their donuts are mad legit!

R thank you Unilocalers… Decided to try this placed based off of Unilocal recommendations and«oh boy» I sure am glad. Delicious tamales and the cream puffs were fabulous! I gained 2 lbs and now must hike McKelligon Canyon but it was totally worth it.

they have amazing cheese tamales! the chicken tamales were okayyyyy, but cheese is definitely the best! I don’t even enjoy tamales, but these were really delicious. The price is also very reasonable, it’s about $ 13.50 for a dozen tamales. The service was great and orders were out quickly! However, there are no chairs or tables for the customers since it is a «to-go» place. The bakery had many options and the price for the baked good are also cheap! overall, it’s a lovely place!

I kid you not, they serve fantastic tamales. The green chile cheese tamales is one of the best tamales I ever had. The raisin, anise, and coconut(sweet) tamale is different from the savory tamales I’m used to, but I enjoyed it alot. I also enjoyed their sweet empanadas, especially the pineapple. It reminds me of the Chinese pineapple tarts… mmmm!!!

Amazing tamales and the pineapple empanadas are just as amazing. Very nice staff and nice about special wrapping of tamales for travel. My 4 dozen made it to NY ready to eat.

I was introduced to this bakery from a friend who purchased apple and pumpkin empanadas. I have tried Gussies donuts which are very fresh and delicious. The texture is amazing. Red and green tamales are great too. I mostly go to buy pumpkin empanadas — highly recommend them. The bakery keeps a variety of stock at all times of the day. I love that I don’t need to worry about them running out of something. Some of the other Mexican pastries don’t taste as fresh to me(hence why I didn’t give 5 stars). I’ve tried a few different breads, but the biggest turn off was a cinnamon pastry that could literally break your tooth when you tried to bite down.

I have no opinion(yet) on the Great Tamale debate, but they have a wide, creative, and very attractive assortment of cookies if you’re looking for an evening dessert. Oh, and they don’t taste bad, either. Not super fresh at 6 pm, but still quite good. If you’re like me and love anything with cinnamon and sugar you have several things to choose from and several novelties to tempt you to choose something different.

Just moved to El Paso and got a craving for tamales. Very good tamales. Very fresh. The bakery food looked awesome also but Ill have to review that another time since I did not eat any. Only thing that held me back from giving 5 stars was I think it was cheddar cheese they used in the rojas, but then again I guess this is Texas ha! I perfer chihuahua cheese with move mexican food but these werre still very very good! I will be back many more times.

The misses and I stumbled onto this place after seeking out a place to eat during a 1 night stay in El Paso(funny, didn’t hear Marty Robbins the entire time). Decided to satiate a sweet tooth and brought home some their empanadas along with the pecan cookies. Needless to say, we were left wanting more and went back to some for the roads and try the tamales to boot. As an unrepentant tamale junkie, I can say that these are the absolute best hands down I have had in the entire country. Found the cheese and green chile were the best with the pork and red chili running a close second. For those out of towners doing the east — west and vice versa trip and using El Paso as a stopover, head here for your tamale fix.

It has great sweet tamales, and rajas con queso tamales. The bread is dry, but the tornillo bread is excellent!

Very poor tamales. Heavy, heavy, heavy on the masa, with just a «string» of meet filling(either pork or chicken). I threw away a half dozen of each. People tell me to try lupita’s. Baked good were pretty good

When I was a very young child, I lived a few blocks from Gussie’s. My Dad and I would walk over on Sunday mornings for still-warm french rolls, sweet bread, and menudo. I have vivid, happy memories of the way this place used to smell. Over this past weekend, I visited Gussie’s again for the first time in over 30 years. I have a cousin who lives in Illinois who was really missing empanadas de calabaza(pumpkin empanadas), and since I was going to be in El Paso visiting my brother’s family, I offered to visit Gussie’s to purchase a few to ship to him. When I walked in, that familiar aroma of baked good smacked me in the face and left behind a contented smile. Not ever having shopped at Gussie’s as an adult, I proceeded to fill a couple bags with the empanadas and rolls. When I got to the counter, the very nice lady explained I should have placed my items on one of the available green trays instead of putting them in the bags(except for the rolls — they were fine to put directly in a bag). I will definitely remember that next time! In addition to the baked goods, I had to purchase some tamales. Gussie’s tamales are THE tamales to have and enjoy. At under $ 13/doz. they are well-worth it. I asked for six red chile pork and six green chile cheese. They were still warm when they were brought out and smelled great. I ended up spending only $ 26 and change and feel I got more than my money’s worth. Later that day, I decided to sample a bit of everything I bought. The bread was soft, the empanadas were truly out of this world, and the tamales were perfection. The red chile pork were overstuffed and seasoned perfectly, and the green chile cheese were a cheese-lover’s dream-come-true. I was excited that I had about six to take back to Phoenix with me! Imagine my dismay when, halfway through New Mexico, I realized I’d forgotten the tamales in my brother’s fridge. Fail for me, win for them!
