Since 1979, El Paso Bridges Academy has been changing the lives of children with learning disabilities.

We refer to these children as «learning different.» Some learning differences include dyslexia, ADD, ADHD, and Asperger’s. Accredited by the Texas Association of Accredited Private Schools, Bridges Academy is the only school of its kind in this part of the Southwest, serving El Paso TX, Las Cruces NM and Juarez MX.

No other educational program in El Paso, is able to provide the scope of proper, effective intervention provided at Bridges.

We are different. A fully specialized, scientifically researched program is designed to meet individual academic, emotional, and social needs of our students. The caring environment of small classes and highly qualified teachers who «teach our children the way they learn,» gives them the opportunity to gain self-​esteem, discover their talents and learn successfully.

Our program offerings are available to full time students, part time /​home schooled students, and students who are dual enrolled in both Bridges and attending other private schools.

In addition to ‘learning different’ education, Bridges provides a special focus on children with Dyslexia. We offer diagnostic testing, tutoring and specialized reading and writing programs for children with Dyslexia. While these specialized programs are currently provided in English only, our future plans include expanding these and other key programs to offer them in Spanish also.

History

Established in 1979.

Bridges Academy was founded to educate children with learning differences such as dyslexia, attention deficits and Asperger’s Syndrome. The school is accredited by the Texas Alliance of Accredited Private Schools for grades 1 through 9. Bridges Academy follows the guidelines of the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills, but never loses sight of the individual needs of each student. The Academy offers learning different children a safe and caring environment in which to learn. Our teacher/​student ratio is 1:4. and classroom sizes are 8 to 12 students.

The Academy’s teachers are specially trained in unique and proven teaching methods. Bridges Academy is the only school in EL Paso, Texas, Las Cruces, New Mexico and Cd. Juarez, Mexico to offer curricula specifically created for the learning different student. We work closely with parents, physicians, and therapists in order to provide students with a learning environment that best fits their learning.

Business Owner

Irma been in the education field for over 41 years. She worked in Ysleta Independent School district as a special education teacher for 10 years and has always loved the challenge of teaching children who learn differently. She was chosen one of top teachers in El Paso in 1989. She has been the keynote speaker on learning disabilities throughout the city. She received specialized training in teaching dyslexia children at Scottish Rite Hospital in Dallas under the direction of Lucius Waite, renowned neurologist, and Aylett Cox, creator of Alphabetic Phonics, a specialized curriculum for dyslexic children. She is a 1976 graduate of UTEP.
