H&R Block

H&R Block screwed up my 2014 Tax Return. I purchased Peace of Mind but it looks like I will be taking the company and tax preparer to small claims court. Adding insult to injury the tax preparer Mega has attempted to cover up mistake.

My tax situation for 2014 was slightly more complicated due to my status as an «independent contractor». As taxes aren’t automatically deducted I thought I was gonna pay tax on my earnings… which would be difficult on a student income. As I didn’t think that I was doing my taxes online correctly I used H&R Block for my first time ever to have all the work done for me.
The lady who did my taxes was quite nice and we made small talk as she processed my form. Turns out that not only could I use standard deduction, but my education credits allowed me to not owe anything. Turns out I didn’t have to file state tax either.
The service isn’t too cheap… Still had to pay almost $ 200. You pay based on the schedule forms they have to fill out to submit your return. Simply put — the easier your tax situation is the cheaper the cost. The –1 star is purely due to the cost.
Because of my hassle-​free experience here I’ll consider just having my taxes done by a professional should my tax situation get more complicated in the future. In a way I hope it does…

We like them. I wish they were cheaper. But, if I ain’t doing my taxes myself, I have no way to know if I’d be able to do them as well.

Not a fan. Only come here because it’s close and I’m too lazy to learn how to do my own taxes.
