Scantibodies Biologics – Plasma Center

I went to Scantibodies Biologics located at 1068 Broadway, El Cajon CA 92 021 (619−440−0283) in December, and even though there were only 2 other people there to donate, I was kept there for 7 HOURS and then released saying it was now too late to donate and had to leave. I contacted their Management team in regards to their staff being unprofessional, rude and was given an apology and asked to return. I decided to give them a 2^nd chance — did so about 2 weeks ago, and gave plasma with no problem (except that the staff is very unfriendly and impatient, and the phlebotomist who stuck me kept messing with the needle every 15 mins and retaping my arm so it was black & blue and sore for a week.)

Then I was contacted via voicemail approximately 3 – 5 days later from Scantibodies that my blood work came back with «bad results», that «antibodies were found in your blood» and that I would have to go in to Scantibodies to get my results. Since I had thrown my back out and was in considerable pain, I phoned and requested that they give the results to my Dr who I was going to see on Thursday 1÷14÷16. Scantibodies refused and said they wouldn’t fax the results. Then the nightmare began… naturally I was scared about whatever was «wrong with my lab work» and so was forced to drive to their facility, and wait outside to be let in to use the elevator so as to go up to the Scantibodies offices, since I’m disabled and can’t climb the stairs. Then when I approached the counter and requested a copy of my medical records and the blood results, the women behind the counter said they wouldn’t give a copy of my medical record to me and that I had to speak to their nurse before I could get a copy of my lab work. I told them that I was in pain and didn’t need to speak to the nurse about lab work as my Dr would evaluate them tomorrow — they still refused and in front of a lobby full of people said I «couldn’t donate due to the lab report showing bad blood results». The manager was standing there at the time and also refused! I then had to walk across their lobby, in great pain, to a private room, where a «nurse» if she really is one, said that my lab work showed that «antibodies were present» and so I couldn’t donate anymore at any lab as they sent the results to them all! I told her I just donated 2 weeks ago and was fine so something isn’t right… and it was probably just a false positive. She said no and told me that either it was due to having a transfusion, or HIV, or being anemic… which I told her none of the above were possible. She then repeated that my blood work showed I «would be a risk to other patients» if I donated again. I took the report and left and gave it to my Dr who’s now giving it to a hemotologist for review for what is most likely a false positive.
This Scantibodies «nurse» is not a Dr/​Hemologist and therefore had no right to «diagnose» or try to «read» my lab work and it most certainly should NOT be given to all plasma banks as fact when it wasn’t read by a hematologist!
So in conclusion, if you are looking to do community service by donating plasma, I would steer very clear of this place as, in my opinion, they are unprofessional and rude.

The only reason they don’t get 5 stars is because the first visit wait time is kind of annoying. However, if you read about it in their website they let you know the first appointment is about 4 – 5 hours. But after that they only go up to 2 hours including wait time and plasma donation. Go early and it will be about an hour or hour and a half. Very clean place and the staff is pleasant. They are exactly what they say online from my experience.

On Dec 31, 2015, a friend of mine had an appointment there at 11:45am driving all the way from Point Loma to El Cajon, only to be told that they accidentally overbooked. My friend couldnt even wait even though it was only 11:45 am. He had to drive all the way back home wasting gas. How unprofessional. They should make it up to him! On top of that, they dont give out a pamphlet that explains how much they pay.

I have been to different plasma centers in 2 other states and I can honestly tell you this is the best plasma center I have ever beem to. The staff is always very friendly, polite, caring.
This center is the cleanest plasma center I have also been to. I really do enjoy coming here. I was trying to stop for a little while but needed some income until I start working. Just moved back to San Diego. Thanks to the staff at scantibodies plasma center in El Cajon, CA

The worst plasma center. I thought the other two were bad… Literally since they have opened up everytime you go to donate it will take at least 2 – 3 hours to donate. People don’t have time for this kind of service. Employees are always standing around and taking their sweet time, and talking too much!!! I think the only time I’ve seen them rush to process donors… Is at the very end. And when management helps because they let them selves back up and they all want to leave.
Second major issue… Since this place opened up they have had no staff to work with the amount of donors they’re getting in. Always 2 screeners when there is about 25 – 30 people waiting to be screened. And in the back… Don’t even get me started… 2 phlebotomists and 2 floor Techs??? All the time!!! Really? This has been happening since they opened !!! Whoever does the scheduling needs to learn how to manage people better as well as managing staff better!!! I don’t recommend this place at all! I’ve been to the other ones, they are not this bad!!! I used to donate and I had to stop! The time was not worth it!!!
There is advertisements left and right stating free Wi-​Fi free Wi-​Fi… When you walk into the center… the cheapest Wi-​Fi in the world!!! That establishment needs to have a business type Wi-​Fi like universities… Not one that needs to be reset every hour!!!
One more thing to top all this off… The ceo had designed a payout system where if you donate more, you end up getting an extra 25 – 30 month for just coming in at least 6 times a month. He did this to grab the new donors. As soon as he started getting people, he changed it very very quickly!!! That needs to come
Back. A lot of people I know from there have stopped going because of all these reasons.
Scantabodies needs to figure out how to fix their problems and hopefully they will keep their donors.

The place is completely under staffed, they use an appointment system which is flawed. Do not even think about trying to come in as a walk in unless you want to wait indefinitely. They will take people before you, who came in two hours after you; even before their appointment start time! You pretty much have to hope multiple people happen to show up to their appointment more than 15 mintues late to see your name move up on there who’s next screen. If you did make an appointment still expect a minimum of 2 – 3 hours to get out of the place. The facility is equipped with four large section with beds and equipment to do the donations, but they only ever open two of the four sections. I am her right now, and trust me today will be the last day I ever donate here again. There are three other donation facilities in San diego, that only do walkins (first come, first served). There is a reason they don’t do appointments, it doesn’t work!!!

After a few mishaps with my car last week, I decided to donate plasma for some fast cash. I made an appointment and was asked a few cursory screening questions by the guy at the call center. One of those questions was about current medications. I told him that I have a rescue inhaler that I use as needed. He said that was no problem.
I show up for my appointment, bringing the necessary documents and a book to read, cause they said the first visit takes about 2 hours. It took 4 hours before I got to my physical. During that time, I was asked by three nurses about my inhaler (how often do I use it? When was my last attack?). I was never asked if I had brought the inhaler with me, until I was about to start my physical. I was told that since I hadn’t brought my inhaler, I couldn’t donate. That would have been nice to know before I wasted 4 hours.
The nurse told me to come back this weekend with my inhaler and I’d be able able to donate. The guy at the front counter was really rude and condescending when I returned. Once I actually got to the donation floor everyone was friendly and the experience was good. Better communication between medical staff at the front of house (and the call center) would be nice. I appreciate their concern for my safety, but I also would appreciate not having wasted those 4 hours.

ScantiBodies followed up with me after my initial review to apologize. They had Erik contact me and set me up with a new appointment. There was still a bit of miscommunication about what ID to bring, but hopefully, this will be information they will include and update on their site for potential donors. I went this past Friday and was put through the process pretty quickly to be registered as a donor. However, once we got to the medical evaluation, they found that my blood pressure was too low to donate that day.
I sadly cannot leave five stars and wish I could leave three and a half. My rating is not because I could not donate — I appreciate that they look out for patients and do not let them donate if they are not medically able to. My deducting of the stars was that I doubt the other donors were given the treatment I was only after I complained, when I went there it was an employee’s last day working there (which, as a patient, that may give me a bad message and assumption seeing someone doesn’t want to work there anymore), and I was told by Erik there was no water in the waiting room. I bought a bottle of water directly before going in and lo and behold, there were water fountains in the waiting area. Again, wasting my money and my time. I’ll try again at some point, but it was still a little frustrating.

Thought this would be an easy way to help out and get a bit of extra cash for doing so. Completely regret it, it’s been a miserable experience.
I had a 1:30pm appointment. After an exceptionally long wait (four and a half hours), they decided I couldn’t donate because my vein was small.
That’s one of the first things the nurse checked I when you arrive.
It took me four and a half hours to not donate for something they should have screened in the first 15 minutes. And then, after the nurse said I would still be compensated… I received a mere $ 10. After 15 minutes of arguing to try to get paid the $ 40, they added on a $ 5 Subway gift card.
There’s other donation centers in San Diego. I suggest using those, and NOT Scantibodies.

I only give this place two stars for cleanliness and prompt service. Other than that, the girl who helped me was kind of stand-​offish bitch. And it turned out I couldn’t donate because of my scars. They have to catalogue all of them to make sure a new one doesn’t appear, supposedly. I found that somewhat offensive, considering all of my scars were from self-​mutilating when I was a teenager. I’ve been sober for many years now. Thanks for nothing Scantibodies!

The staff is amazing! Stephanie, Miguel, Tony, Stacy and all the rest of them try to make it painless while saving lives! Will be missed.

Today marks my second plasma donation at this location. Make sure before you go that you look at the website to see all of the requirements needed before you donate. The biggest thing that struck me was how long it took my first visit. I didn’t quite believe them that it could take up to five hours but my visit to exactly 4 hours. Everyone was very nice and professional. The doctors will well trained and did the physical before being able to donate professionally. The entire facility is extremely clean and you can see them sanitized before and after each patient does anything. My first visit went smoothly and I was paid promptly by cash before I left. My second visit went just as smoothly and I found that even without an appointment arriving before 7:30 a.m. ensured that I got in quickly and even quicker. Before you come make sure you drink a lot of water for at least the entire 24 hours before you come. Being hydrated will make it easier for the phlebotomist to stick you and make your blood flow faster.

Been donating for months now and I like it. I don’t like making appointments, just not that kinda guy, but it’s worth it for reduced wait times, and the bonuses for referrals is extra cash. Saw my friend here today donating too that I recommended. The cash I get pays for my car payment. Kalia who works here is the best and the staff is almost always friendly and glad to see me. They don’t give us snacks for free anymore, but they gave us more cash recently to offset it.

Seems like a really good place. Good money. I like they pay cash not debit cards like others. I have had problems with debit cards.
Friendly & helpful. The process goes pretty fast.
Place is clean feels safe.

When i started donating in this center the waiting times were terrible, i stopped donating for a while because of that, i was not able to get to work on time trying to donate early in the morning, i was called a couple of weeks ago by the center and they asked me to come back and donate to try their appointment system, they offer me extra $ 5 if i made an appointment and show up on time to it, they stated waiting times were less that 70 minutes, so i decide to give it a try, now making appointments i am in and out in less than an hour allowing me to get to work on time and make the extra $$$$. I am a fast donor though, drink tons of water before i get there

I come here for the extra cash only I don’t like how there system works. There’s always a long wait to be seen in the front when there’s 12 people waiting there is only two people taking vitals and they are still lazy… the people who work here are always chatting not work related. when your in the back there faster Riza is very good. the other thing I hate is when you don’t come for a week they call 2−3times a day until you schedule…

I went to my 5pm appointment and everything was going fine till it was close to closing time then I think an overzealous doctor eager to get rid of me claimed I had edema and I needed a doctors note that I would be okay to donate. Worried something was wrong I saw my primary care doctor the next day and he could not find one damn thing wrong with me. The doctor they used is apparently overworked and overtired. I tired calling them back but now there phones don’t work. What kind of a place is this?

What a great and easy way to make extra money for extra thing to buy and make your life just a little bit better. I’m 65 so with social security which is so small this extra pays for my food at Walmart lol.
It’s easy painless and you get 25 the first and 30 the 2^nd so that 55 bucks a week it adds up and really helps the budget tell them bob pearl sent you

The people were professional, friendly, and very helpful. I went in for a first-​time visit which is supposed to be 2 – 3 hours long. Word of warning, it might be longer, depending on the time of day you go. I was told that 7 a.m. is best, but the other times of the day aren’t bad.
All in all, I went in for an appt at 2:00, and after letting them know at 4:00 (during the physical) that I needed to be gone by 5:00, they did their best, and had me out by 5:40. The plasma extraction was pretty cool… the stuff in the bottle looks like the slime on Ghostbusters, lol… and I got $ 40! They give it to you on a Visa debit card. And I’m getting $ 60 next week! Woot! Gonna buy some perfume I’ve been wanting… and in the long run, you’re saving lives. Can’t beat it. :)
Tips: Drink lots of water 24 hours before you go, otherwise the plasma extraction may take longer. Also, don’t eat a lot of high fat foods 24 hours before as well, for the same reason. (i.e., cheese, eggs, fried foods)
