Relax Inn And Suite

For the price I wasn’t expecting the Hilton. I got what I expected, a clean room, TV, WIFI, fridge, bathroom, AC/​Heat. It was quiet and peaceful until Saturday night when a couple of rabbits moved in next door. I mean alright already we get it, you’re a stud. Once the headboard banging was over for the 3^rd session, peace returned. I had a problem with the TV and it was attended to within an hour, not bad. I too was given the «no refund for early check out» speech. No problem, policy is policy thanks for telling me up front. The condition of the room was okay, the AC was beat up but worked fine. Laughably, the drawers wouldn’t stay shut. None of them, even with nothing in them! Close them and a few moments later they would glide open an inch or two. I believe in gravity, not ghosts. The toilet tank leaked internally so it refilled itself off and on. The bed was comfortable, no complaints. The fridge didn’t cool very well but keeping a bucket of ice in it from the ice machine helped it keep everything cool, even cold. I had to spend a week here, it was handy having a Denny’s in the parking lot and a Mexican drive thru across the street. I already did a less than stellar review on the Denny’s no need here. Over all it was a cheap motel that met my minimal needs. I found the staff to be courteous, helpful and polite.

WOW, Glad I’m not the ONLY one with a bad review. Looks nice from the outside. First off– it’s pricey for what you get. For the price, they need major upgrades and hospitality. We are in a double queen room. Beds were lumpy and need new pillows bed springs have questionable stains. Definitely need new carpet too! Didn’t feel comfortable walking around barefooted. My kids take showers before going to bed and GUESS WHAT? NO TOWELS! went to front desk and the male attendant said they ran out and we would get towels delivered the following morning. Needless to say: I NEEDED TOWELS, so I went to Walmart and bought some. The shower needs two people to properly close the shower door before we flood the bathroom and possibly have the hotel charge us for damages. The AC unit is horrid and was afraid to touch it. There are no OUT GOING phone calls– the office says they don’t provide that service WTF? a fridge is always a plus EXCEPT ours doesn’t close properly. The bathroom window has no screen, so I’m hoping nothing Flys in. Since today is day two, I ended up calling the front desk because the room wasn’t attended to and NO TOWELS– the attendant said WE MUST’VE PUT UP THE «DO NOT DISTURBE» sign… REALLY??? Why would we do that??? Rule one, just bring the necessities up to the room, you don’t call your guests liars– That is a rule! I wouldn’t recommend this hotel AT ALL!!! This place needs a REAL manager with hospitality experience so they can salvage this place. Really disappointed DO NOT COME HERE for a RELAXING NIGHT!

Decent place to pass out drunk on the floor. That’s about it. Hand soap smells horrible and the guy on the first floor sat in his door and stared at us every time we walked by, including when we got back at 3am. Weird. But for the price and the last minute booking, it was ok.

Had a horrible experience here. I booked the place for two nights and the day we check in, we notice that our door lock is broken. I let the receptionist know and she said that the earliest they could have it fixed is the next morning. Did they really think I would stay overnight there with my kids with an unlocked door? Anyone could come in. I can’t believe they would actually expect me to stay there especially since the area is pretty sketchy and scary. I told her I wanted to cancel the rservation but she said I had to do it over a third party since I paid for it through cheapo stay. I called cheapo and they said I had to approve it from the hotels general manager. The general manager told me that I would get charged 86 for cancelling which I thought was ridiculous. I kept having to call the general manager and cheapo back and forth. We didn’t even stay there. Plus the room was nasty, the lamp fixtures by the bed didn’t work, and we could hear everything the next door was talking about and constant stomping from the 2^nd floor. Plus they didnt even have spare rooms open and I still had to pay an 86 charge for basically NOTHING. Overall I’m still trying to get my refund back when it was completely their fault for accommodating my family with a faulty room that was unsafe. My recommendation is DONT choose this place to stay in. This place should be reported.

We booked a room with 2 queen sized beds. When we arrived they were out of that size room, so we were put in a suite. That was great, until we were woken up at 4:45 AM because the ceiling above our bed was leaking! It continued to pour water as long as the room above us was using their shower, and continued to drip for another hour after.
We were not issued a refund. After 20 minutes of arguing at checkout, we were given $ 10 off. Completely unacceptable.
Pieces of furniture were damaged and unfinished. The coffee pot was not cleaned and spewed yellow sludge water before we put anything in it.

For the cheap price its ok, but the rooms are exremely clairaudient. You can hear what ever the other guests do. If you have a room downstairs and the upstair guest go around, you feel like a train drive trough your room.

Staff really nice, Room Clean, bathroom immaculate, Beds… OMG my back is stiff this am but my husband didn’t mind it as much as I… was pleasantly surprised we had a microwave and a fridge and lots of storage space. Very Noisy but it is with most fwy side motels and figured as much when i googled the location. Had warm water for my shower. I would stay here again if i could handle a bad mattress. very hard. Denny’s is so convenient and they are really nice there too. We rented this place because of the price and it was only for a sleep over. OH and the light came on in the bathroom after we got in bed and was almost asleep. I highly recommend some sort of ear plug I use the silicone ear putty and never leave home without it. and close the bathroom door so you don’t wake up and have to turn off the light.

We had asked weeks before our arrival for an inside, upstairs room. In other words, an INTERIOR entrance (from a hallway) and were told we could get that. It was, in deed, upstairs but we found that all rooms have EXTERIOR entrances (facing parking lots, approaching headlights, pool noise, etc.) When I pointed this out to the manager he said he meant «All of our doors swing inward» … duh!
I’ll admit the bed was comfortable and there were no significant odors (we had asked for non-​smoking, non-​pet room). However, the frig didn’t cool well at all, and one outlet (2 plugs) provides power for the frig, microwave, hair dryer and coffee maker in the designated area. So you may end up plugging/​unplugging 4 appliances every morning!
One day we got no room cleaning service at all. Management said the maid knocked 5 times and got no reply and went on to say if no one answers, the maid will attempt to enter to see if the guest are away. Management told me the inside latch was ON preventing her from entering. That would mean we were still there, but one of us would have heard the knocking and the attempt to enter — it simply didn’t happen. Furthermore, they say the maid tried two more times that day, the last time being 4:30pm. But we left the room at 9am and didn’t return until 9pm — meaning the inside latch had to be OFF so they could enter and clean.
Oh… I must mention the shower. The knob is backwards: cold is hot and vice-​versa. More importantly, after you think you have set the right temp, it will go from extremely cold to scalding hot! So you end up juggling soap, shampoo, etc. and the knob… like some circus act.
My general complaint is that in every discussion over these issues with management, we were made to feel like we were at fault. AND — they will not refund the difference if you decide to leave prior to your checkout day… for any reason!
In conclusion, I wasn’t expecting the Hilton, but they shouldn’t expect my return either.

AC took forever to blow even barely cold air, the cable was screwy for awhile, and the bed is EXTREMELY uncomfortable.

This place is a total rip off! No customer loyalty or deals for a corporate rate. They claim «corporate rates» that is a total lie. I was guarantee a regular rate during comic con and was charged $ 200 extra and would not honor our agreement. I will never put any of our out of town employees in the place ever again. This is a motel in El Cajon for jimmy crickets sake not downtown or hotel circle. Needless to say we found a place with a kitchen and separate bedrooms for $ 600 less a month than Relax Inn.

Plus side:
Cheap. Located right next to the following: A gas station that sells alcohol till 2am, a 24 hour Mexican restaurant, a Dennys, also open 24 hours. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a cheap motel with this much convenience nearby.
Minus side:
Clearly some long term dwellers here, who don’t appear to be in any hurry to get their lives together. Place finally fills up at night with construction workers, who park their utility vehicles, leaving little parking options. I’m not aware if the neighboring Dennys allows motel parking. Nonetheless, an inconvenience.
Overall, acceptable for adults, people working near SD, or people just vacationing on the cheap, although I wouldn’t recommend staying more than one night. Not good for families.

To go to San Diego mid-​August on a budget is no easy task. To find a motel that came out for 3 nights to $ 193 with tax (roughly $ 65/​night) is nothing to sneeze at.
I went directly to the Relax Inn and Suites website to book my stay. Oddly, the manager called my cellphone the day before I was to depart. I missed the call and he didn’t leave a message. It was only be recognizing the area code and checking the number on the website that I realized he was calling me. Why? My only guess was to check if I was a real person. On the website you’re required to include a credit card that won’t be charged unless you «no show» without reason 48 hours in advance. So, I called him back and he seemed somewhat surprised I did so. I said I saw he called and he said it was to confirm my reservation. Strange. If what he was really doing was to confirm a reservation why didn’t he leave a message?
Unfortunately, it’s my belief (but I have no proof to back it up) that I got screwed for getting such a low price. Lemme say, though, it helped I had a reservation at all because when I pulled in late Thursday night the place was fully booked with «No Vacancy» sign. To note they had a sign in the window that explicitly stated they can charge whatever they want (pretty much) based on room availability.
Here I am, traveling alone to the crap city of El Cajon and have reservations and I got stuck on the first floor next to a guy that clearly lives there (his door was wide open while he wandered around and occasionally yelled up to another guy that lived above him). Not only that but my supposed «smoke-​free room» was anything but. I’ll admit I didn’t bother to ask for another room.
On the safety factors: #1 — it didn’t help to be in El Cajon. #2 — it didn’t help that the management already locked themselves up behind glass by 9pm. #3 — being given a 1^st level floor (but I blame myself for not asking specifically for the second floor in my reservations and for wanting to perpetuate the desire as a female to be on the 2^nd floor). #4 — being given a room next to a sketchy dude. #5 — Having windows that were HUGE with no way to safely bar it. #6 — Having a door so sketchy the only way I slept «comfortably» was by putting a tilted chair against it. And the all-​time kicker thankfully didn’t occur ’til my cousin rescued me the last night and I had already checked-​out late at night: I had to check out the little pool (which, I might add was superbly clean). As I looked over the wall, though, there was a scary dude sitting in the tightest of corners dressed all in black: black shoes, black jeans, black hoodie and he had the hood down over his head, but open enough to where I saw his face. FREAAAAAKKKYYYY!!! Had I seen something like that when I first checked in, I would’ve told the manager and said I had to leave for fear of my safety.
Cleanliness: Not bad for a low-​end motel, actually. It wasn’t perfect, but it was pretty clean. The ceiling above the bed was kinda gross, though, but amazingly the ceiling above the shower was immaculate — sometimes you don’t even seen that in high-​end motels/​hotels. They do need to invest in plastic shower curtains, though. It was disgusting to touch and the bottom was a moldy mess. But, for the most part, it was clean (besides the smoky smell).
Noise: O-​M-​G. I could hear my lovely next door neighbor talking well into the night. I got a crap room right next to the freeway so I heard that loud and clear. Most fabulously was how well I could hear the people above me walking around — it actually woke me up at 4am. Oh, yeah, and that was fun, too, when I heard the shower running (or maybe it was the toilet). My only solace was to run the A/​C & Fan all-​night. Unfortunately, I don’t think there was a proper filter on the A/​C and I woke up with terrible allergies requiring a Benadryl to recover (and the following night with Claritin to stave off allergies)
On the positive side of things: #1 — right off the freeway (clearly popular with crowds of people). #2 — Seriously shares a parking lot with Denny’s. #3 — Directly across the street was a Sombero’s Mexican restaurant, an AM/​PM, and a 7 – 11. #4– the microwave was clean and very useful (unfortunately, the refrigerator had seen better days and was missing pieces of the tray — but that was a «make it work» moment). #5 — fairly consistent internet connection. It dropped out once or twice, but was pretty good for wireless (that was my saving grace). #6 — ample storage space. #7 — Cable Television (although, it wasn’t the best picture). #8– phone to make local calls.
Would I stay here again or recommend it? No. I wouldn’t stay there again unless I was with someone and hard up on cash. Would I recommend it — only if (sorry to be sexist) a male or traveling together with someone and were really hard up on cash. Next time, I guess I’ll either have to spend more money or ignore reviews of similarly priced motels and roll the dice.
