Openly hostile staff with zero customer service skills and shockingly bad attitudes.
On Friday evening around 7:30 or 8:00pm my boyfriend and I went to Office Depot to purchase a new monitor for our computer. The selection here is very, very small but they had a few really good prices on Samsung monitors so we decided to splurge and get a larger one than we went there to purchase.
There were 3 customers in the entire store and we were 2 of them. To say it was dead in there would be an understatement.
An employee was standing not 6′ away from us (right at the end of our short aisle) as we were trying to figure out if the monitors had the correct ports but she was so busy ignoring us we didn’t feel comfortable asking her questions, so we started turning a monitor around to see if it had the connections we needed when all of a sudden alarms started blaring.
At first we didn’t know what it was. After standing there looking around for employee response to the alarm we realized *WE* caused the alarm: when we turned a monitor around a security device came dislodged and set it off.
We poked around and located the security doohickey and then tried to put it back in place but it wouldn’t work and the alarm just kept shrieking.
The female employee who was standing nearby suddenly sprung into action, storming over to us in a way that made it very clear that she was angry with us for disturbing her. She immediately scolded us using what I can only describe as a very pissed-​off tone of voice and took us to task for creating the disturbance, while she smacked the security thing back onto the monitor. After that she dropped to the floor, yanked one of the metal shelves off and *slammed* it onto the metal shelf beside it, revealing all kinds of electronics hidden beneath.
I guess subtlety isn’t one of her talents.
She dug around amongst the dust-​bunnies and located the correct box, then turned off the screeching alarm, slammed the shelf back into place and stormed off without another word.
At the register the fun continued. The cashier, a young girl, appeared to be playing on her phone. She ignored us at first so I asked her if she could ring us up and she mumbled that she could while she played with her device (which I later realized was a tool all employees use to scan and ring things up.) There was so little customer service that I stood there lost and not really sure if I was at the right register.
She asked me my phone number so I could get my Office Depot Rewards but she couldn’t find me on her little device so she told me I don’t have a rewards account.
This was news to me since I use the Office Depot in Eastlake and they have in their system. I let her know that I do have a rewards account, I use it at the one in Eastlake but she said no I don’t, and showed me the device that said I didn’t have any account.
I asked if each store was separate but she said no, they’re all connected so if I registered for the rewards I could use my phone number at any store. I again told her my phone number works at the Office Depot in Eastlake and asked if she had an explanation as to why it won’t work here and she insisted it was because I have no rewards account.
A male employee came up with our monitor and she asked him questions about why her device wasn’t working. He offered simple instructions on how to use the device and while he was not rude or unfriendly, and he did give her proper instruction, I could tell from his tone that he had offered her this same instruction many times.
The cashier then tried to log in to her register and expressed happiness to discover the register itself was working and she wouldn’t have to use the handheld device. She offered to type in my number so I gave it again and this time it went through. We were rung up, the male employee told us to have a nice evening and we left with our new monitor.
The cashier seemed inept and lacking in any kind of customer service skills but that’s something that can be remedied with training.
The male employee was actually friendly and helpful, so thank you to that guy.
But in reference to the female employee who dealt with the security alarm: how Office Depot could continue to employ such an openly hostile, aggressively angry person is a mystery known only to their corporate office. As a manager myself I would never tolerate that type of behavior from any employee and would immediately take disciplinary action, but I’m guessing that’s not how Office Depot operates because you have to be pretty negligent to allow someone to work there so long they get to the point where they’re bold enough to go slamming things around and giving customers attitude for a simple (admittedly obnoxiously loud) mistake.
From now on I’ll stick with Staples.

Walked in and two employees walked right by without saying one word. I thought damn at least say «hello» or «can I help you find something». Found what I needed and I was glad to leave this place. Employees should really be trained on how to treat customers, especially for people whom have never been in their store!

Very very unsatisfied with this place! I have been coming here for 3 years mainly for the PRINT CENTER and I have never had a problem with anything. All of a sudden you can’t print invitations that I PAY and MAKE my self !?? And all of a sudden some of my prints are «copy right» well then why wasn’t this problem suggested 3 years ago!??
First of all I receive HORRIBLE customer service their workers don’t even have a dam smile on or can’t even atleast «pretend» to be happy. I wasn’t even greeted. Let me not forget to add that the guy (thick white guy) that helped me completely ignored me when I had a question about WHY my order never went through and just helped the customer behind me when I came here 2 days in a row for my time to be waisted with horrible customer service. Wow Office Depot! This is the last time I come here.

Absolutely Horrible print center! Avoid coming to this store for anything bigger then a standard sheet of paper.
Please keep in mind that before i printed anything here I tested the prints at another office depot store, with amazing quality and was expecting the same.
I placed an order last week for 8 posters, 3 24×36 and 5 18×24. I waited two days, after not hearing anything on my order (online orders inform when they are complete) I chatted with a corporate representative who gave me a service claim #. About two hours later I received a call from the print manager who informed me they had an issue and would have to wait til that afternoon and assured me they would be done that evening. Life happened and I couldn’t get there til sunday. I arrived and found 5 finshed 18×24’s that looked horrendous in print quality and lamination quality and 1 horribly printed 24×36. the rep was willing to help figure out the issue, then accidentally kicked off the power to the printer and actually finished his shift about 10 mins later, I waited for the printer to load for 45 minutes when they said it would take 5 – 10. After it finally started printing the quality was horrible with color issues and I would have to take it somewhere else to laminate. I showed them the orignal file that had none of the presenting issues, however kept being told it was my file or the file was corrupt. I waited for 3 more prints taking 15 minutes each all with varying issues, meanwhile a perfect quality poster came out of the photo printer… I don’t know the logic here but I watched that perfect print get folded and tossed into the trash while my subpar take 3 hours after a week to print posters were printing. After so much wasted time and prints the lady printing finally says «hey maybe this should be printing in highest quality mode instead of draft. I finally got 3 posters with lines in them due to running low on ink. The laminator was out of film so I had to run over the prints to another store to have them laminated (That store will be getting a glowing review next) the prints were so bad that the laminator at the sister store kept having feeding issues, they fixed the problem on behalf of office depot, because this el cajon store pushed me out with an incomplete order as quickly as possible.
I was displeased with this store from the customer service, to the final product it was a dissapointment. I waited 4 days to pick up my order, when I arrived I waited for 3 hours, was belittled and had to prove that my files were perfect, in the end I drove an extra 30 miles to fix someone else’s problem. No sorry no nothing. Corporate felt bad and refunded the order but offered no help in actually getting the prints done. I ended up sending $ 500 in prints to local printers for this job, and over $ 3000 in marketing supplies this week. They really screwed the pooch on this one!

Joelle Norton a Technology Specialist, and Senior Sales Consultant helped me as soon as I entered the door, and did a FANTASTIC JOB ! Joelle had a very pleasant and professional personality, as she stayed with me a long time to make sure I was happy with my exchange options. I would go back to this Office Depot again, just because of the way Joelle handled all of of my issues, and did a very outstanding job making sure I was happy. Thank You Joelle !

I dislike leaving bad reviews on places that I like, but this Office Depot is horrible. I have came here several times and the many times I have come here it’s been slow and they will not help the way any other office depots do. Angelical the assistant manager had taken two people ahead of me while I was standing there for 30 minutes already. There professionalism is not anywhere near professional and I think there is a lack of training.

I really hate writing bad reviews. It just seems like no one is giving me a reason to write a good one. I’m am just leaving Office Depot after waiting for 45 min for someone to help me with a printer purchase. I originally went there to get some file fasteners. As I was leaving I saw what seemed like a pretty awesome sale on some printers and I figure for the right price I could use an upgrade. So I ask some one to get a printer specialist for me so that I can make sure I’m getting the printer that best fits my needs. Well some time goes by and I ask another person. More time goes by and I ask another person. I asked a total of six different people to get someone to help me. Each time they got on the radio and told me it would be just another minute. After about 20 minutes I grabbed an office chair and rolled it to the front of the store right in front of the printers, literally in the middle of the lobby area where you walk in and I front of all the registers and sat down with my basket. Every time and employee walked by I asked for help. After 45 minutes I had had enough time to go on my phone and see that Costco is havin an even better sale and left. I’ll be surprised if this place stays in business much longer the way they let money walk out the door. They still got me for $ 20 for my fasteners but they lost out on $ 629 plus tax on the printer I wanted to buy. Round 1 goes to the customer by way of knockout! Better luck next time Office Depot.

Went in this morning in a hurry cause work in 15 mins. staffs are very helpful finding what I need. Will be back if I need more office items.

I made my yearly trip to one of these type stores to pick up my tax program. I picked up the H&R Block Deluxe with Federal and State on sale for $ 34.95 (
). When I came in, no one really paid any attention to me, but that was okay because I knew what I needed and where to go. (

When I arrived at the register, there was a significant line, but they quickly opened up a few lanes, including the manager getting involved, so the lines went quicker. The girl at the counter was pretty nice, but spoke on a monotone voice. I use my rewards card via my phone number, but I am yet to see to see any benefits from it.
All in all a good visit. I got what I needed at a good price without any major issues.

The manager in this store keeps it running smoothly… Professional & courteous staff… Always helpful in answering questions & with finding items without being intrusive.

Came here couple of days ago for a new office chair. I was greeted immediately upon entering the store. I walked to the back to find an employee immediately accessible. He was very knowledgeable with the office chairs and was able to support me finding the best chair for my unique working/​comfort needs. Without asking, I was offered help out to my car and the employee loaded it into my car.

I will never ever seek mailing services from these ppl again! I will tell everyone how terrible the service is and how Angelica the assistant manger was no help! I just wasted an hour of my life

DO NOT get PASSPORT PICTURES here!!! The girl at the counter took two lousy passport shots that even I could tell were not correct. She then handed me a half 8×11 sheet with the pictures. I asked her if she was going to cut them to size since, I assumed she knew the size, but apparently I was wrong. The girl handed me some scissors and told me to cut them myself. I will NEVER go back to that story.

yuck! got the worst customer service ever. I went in knowing exactly what I wanted, just a rolling cart of drawers, easy right? NO! I found the display in the with the furniture but I needed it to be brought out from the back. I went up to ask the girl at the register because there was NO ONE around and she mumbled something about calling someone. So I waited in the back of the store for 20 minutes until someone came he said he’d go look in the back and I watched him as he walked up to another customer and started talking to them about printers and after he talked to him forever he went to another customer to talk to them! I was so pissed what could’ve taken 5 minutes ended up me staying in the store for an hour! Never ever ever going back to this store and would recommend the same to anyone else.

Yes, they have a ton of stuff but it is NOT easy to find. Even harder to find: a staff member to help you! You’re pretty much on your own when it comes to shopping here

I know what I want and I know where to get it. And I know when I need boxes and packing tape, I can get them at Office Depot.
The manager yells, «Welcome to Office Depot! Let me know if you need any help!» That works for me. Just leave me alone and let me shop!
Large signs hang over each store’s section, so it takes me maybe no more than 20 seconds to orient myself and locate the packing & shipping section. I grab my boxes, packing tape’s on sale — cool, some blank greeting cards and price tags.
Check out was quick and easy. I usually play with whatever they have on display near the cashier and put it back when it’s time to pay.

Unbelievably bad return policy for a device that did not work; and rude treatment by manager when I questioned their return policy.
I bought a new (corded) phone for my office, but (surprisingly) no dial tone! I even read the manual to make sure I wasn’t getting something wrong.
I returned it to the store (El Cajon) THE NEXT DAY, WITH MY RECEIPT. But they didn’t have that same model in stock. So here’s what the manager told me:
NO REFUND OR CREDIT TO MY CHARGECARD.
NO STORE CREDIT.
I HAD TO EXCHANGE IT FOR SOME OTHER PRODUCT RIGHT THEN, OR THEY WOULDN’T ACCEPT THE RETURN AT ALL.
In fact, the manager told me I was just lucky she didn’t tack on a 15% «restocking fee»!
I told her I bought all my business office products at Office Depot, and if I couldn’t at least get store credit, they were going to lose tens-​of-​thousands of dollars in sales, because I would never be back.
That had zero effect on her position or her attitude.
So, to keep it from being a complete loss, I bought an equivalent amount of printer ink and left the store — FOREVER!
Nice going, Office Depot.

Really bad customer service! I f your buying something off the shelf like paper and pencils, and you are sure there is no chance of ever having to return the item, the go ahead and shop there.
If you want anything from thier «technology» department, run away. Run very fast.
They are unable to give you any useful advice, and if you happen to buy something they recommend, and it doesn’t work or fit your needs, they will NOT return your money. They only offer store gift cards, that don’t work on their website, only THAT store!
I found them courteous when shopping, but rather abrupt and uppity when I came in with a problem. I didn’t walk in with an attitude either. I was polite and understanding that my problem was with the item or manufacturer and not them, but they seem to care not.
In the economic down turn, I expect a business to try and hang on to loyal customers, not drive them away.
Bah humbug Office Depot. Looks like coal in your stockings this year.
