I found Main Street Optometry on Unilocal.It is close to my office and had good reviews so I gave them a try. I called by phone to make an appointment. The staff was friendly but it took four phone calls back and forth until they had enough information to figure out my insurance and I only learned later (after my exams) that they would charge me 2 copays for 2 separate exams. I might have foregone one of them had I known beforehand but they didn’t make an effort to explain my options. On my appointment day, I arrived 10 minutes early to complete my paperwork. Then they kept me waiting [without explanation] for another 30-​minutes (aarrgghh). There were several ladies walking around the office but none seemed concerned with me. Instead, they were focused on a homeless man that was acting strangely outside the front window. They couldn’t decide whether to close the blinds or call for help. The eye exam itself was pretty uncomfortable but the tech (Ruby) was exceptionally nice. Dr. Tram then finished my exam. She was very thorough and very knowledgeable. She showed me a 360-​degree image of my eyes and explained each part of the exam so I understood what I was looking at. That was interesting (in a cool and educational way). Dr. Tram asked me lots of questions about my vision and lifestyle so she could personalize my prescription and I appreciated that a lot. When it came to being fitted for glasses I felt like a piece of meat. Despite the fact that I had my own frames, the sales lady kept trying to steer me towards buying her frames that I did not like, want or need. She physically chagrined (scowled look, wrinkled nose deal) my own frames and took them from me to demonstrate how they did not «look» right on my nose. She took it upon herself to adjust the nose rests which upset me so much! I have a funny nose and getting the adjustment just right is a major undertaking which she totally messed up without even asking my permission. I am still upset about this! So upset that I almost called her and cancelled my order after the fact!!! In all, my two co-​payments and lenses (with tint and anti-​glare) came to $ 361.00. Yep, you read that right — $ 361.00 — that is WITH INSURANCE and NO FRAMES!!! All in all, I would go back but next time I will ask to have my prescription in writing and purchase my glasses elsewhere.

We found Dr. Weiss’s office on Unilocal and there was a review about the office charging for the written prescription so that was the first thing i asked about cost for a written prescription … ugh there isnt one!!! sometimes makes we wonder the integrity of the people reviewing on Unilocal.Was it a competitor trying to stray people away? Anyways, we absolutely loved the experience Dr. Weiss and her staff provided us. If you have VSP definitely go here! AMAZING! !

Amazing people! So sweet, caring and helpful. Totally will be recommending them. From the phone call to meeting them In Person everyone was very nice.

I’ve had great service in the past (last year) or so I thought I did. This year I went in for my yearly exam and things started out rough. I made my appointment for 8am so I could be out by 845. I wasn’t seen until 845. They then told me I had a $ 60 copay, which wasn’t mentioned the day before when I called. Then contacts were terribly uncomfortable and I asked for new ones and they told me I would have to come back. I called again and just asked for my prescription and they told me I would be charged another 35 $. They wouldn’t write my prescription for any other contact brands other than the one they have exclusively. I called the insurance company in tears because I couldn’t see, I had terrible headaches and they werent working with me. Lucky me they sent me to a new eye doctor.
Amazingly enough, my prescription wasn’t accurate. De Weiss completely ignored my astigmatism and just strengthened my power which caused my headaches. I will not be returning, and it makes me wonder how I got through the last year without my astigmatism being corrected.
Save your time and money and check out other places!

Dr. Weiss is great. I’ve been taking my family to her for years (since before she had her own practice). I drive all the way from La Jolla and it’s totally worth it.

So glad I found this place! Fantastic customer service and Dr. Weiss really gets know you and your individual needs. Everyone that works there is great too! The only thing that I thought was an opportunity was that it seemed a tad expensive. I have pretty good insurance too.

Dr. Weiss is awesome! Very thorough in her exams and her staff is incredible. They are always extremely helpful and willing to go the extra mile. I highly recommend!

Friendly staff, friendly and educated doctor… Best ophthalmologist I’ve ever been to. They even sent us a congratulations card after we were married… They actually remembered the date and everything! So personable and just… Just GO TO HER! You will not be sorry!

Great service! I just brought my son here to be evaluated for Vision Therapy for the school district. Lisa and her team were wonderful in making sure that my son and I were completely comfortable with the testing and evaluation that they performed. He’s normally very wary of strangers and being touched but they were awesome in being understanding and patient with him until he was settled. I will be back for our other vision needs.

My insurance assigned me to Dr. Weiss and I’m happy they did. Her staff are incredibly funny and helpful. They throw clearance parties and I just so happen to walk in to pick up my contacts and I was blown away at the goodie selections they had. There’s a family vibe in the office, it’s pretty neat.
Dr. Weiss is a character. She’s super laid back but understands what going on and gives you all your options (even when you don’t ask… lol).
They have state of the art equipment and they take the time to explain what everything is and they, of course, let you know what they’re going to do with your eyes. If you need a moment, they make sure to give you all the time you need.
I’m giving Dr. Weiss and her staff 5 stars because they know what’s up and they super laid back.

Big thanks to Lisa, Dawn and all of you for helping me with my eyesight! As an artist doing detailed work for decades my ability to focus had become impaired, I had tremendous eyestrain and didn’t know what to do. Dawn worked with me for 3 months and I’m happy to say the eyestrain is 99% gone!

Quick and easy exam, friendly staff, and pretty office! D. Weiss was patient answering my questions and helping me decide on my prescription.

Dr. Weiss and her office staff were extremely helpful. They were on-​time and all very friendly. I got a great pair of glasses that were very reasonably priced.

Not cheap but very thorough, and you only get one pair of eyes! My only critique that is slightly negative is that her selection of frames was limited at that time, but as far as Dr Lisa’s vision care goes … she’s unbeatable!

I loved my visit with Dr. Weiss and her team. It truly was the best most thorough exam I have ever had. I was educated on the benefit of using Optomap to detect a potential threat to my vision and by setting a baseline and having this test completed at every exam, if something should start up the opportunity to treat is good.
I am wearing contacts that I can see out of for the very first time and I have tried contact two seperate occassions with no luck.
Also I have selected a beautiful set of frames trying progressive lenses which I will have in just a few days.
I recommend this practice to everyone…

I chose this office for insurance reasons and loved it. They are really attentive and very professional. The glasses I ordered came promptly, the helped me sort out my insurance issues, and they did a great job on my eyes.
I have recommended them to several friends and family, and will do so again.

My husband has been going to Dr. Weiss for several years now. He likes her very much. Our insurance covers frames one year and lenses the next plus an exam a year. I had not needed to go but decided that the drug store reading glasses might be an indication that I needed an eye exam.. Parking, welcoming, and exam were excellent… very friendly people. They were having a frame trunk sale. Supposedly, nicer frames at a savings. I will be totally honest here and say the last pair of glasses I bought was 20 some years ago. I guess $ 700 for a pair of prescription sunglasses and my regular glasses is a deal in somebody’s world. I could have asked for less expensive and next time I will. There was no hype to buy «expensive.» The person helping me was darling. I had no clue what I would look «good» in and she did. However, letting me know what each frame cost, might have made my visit less traumatic when I had to tell my husband what I had charged on our Visa.
So, like my husband, next time I will say…“the least expensive frames please.”

It seems strange to review an optometrist, but I figure I might as well give my feedback to help make other people’s decisions more informed.
I don’t get my eyes checked regularly (I don’t wear glasses/​contacts), but eye exams are covered by my insurance and I was recently having eye strain issues at work, so I made an appointment. My exam was fairly uneventful (my eyes are in great health), but I did feel like it was a very thorough exam. They took pictures of my retinas, puffed air into my eye, etc. However, the best part of the exam was when I explained about my eye strain at work (I stare at a computer all day) and Dr. Weiss recommended these cool yellow tinted computer glasses. When I tried them on in front of a computer I saw and felt the difference immediately! I’ve been wearing them for over a year now and they have made a huge difference. (They are called Gunnar Optiks, btw).
Overall, my experience was a positive one and I won’t hesitate to make my next appointment here.

I went to this office for the first time a few weeks ago to get an eye exam to update my RX for my contacts. I figured this office only had one review, but it was a good one so I thought I would give Dr. Weiss a try.
I showed up for my appointment, the office had plenty of parking right out front, and right across from the El Cajon Court House, I mean right across the street. There was no battle for parking so that was a plus. The office was nice and cool, AC working great! The receptionist was nice and welcoming. I was asked to remove my contacts in the bathroom and to go with the assistant so she could test my eyes.
Of course the battery of tests, the eye air puff thing, color tests etc… the technician was real thorough and I was impressed by her professionalism. She then told me about the Optiscan machine/​test that is like the dilation test, but you don’t have to get your eyes dilated. So I opted for the test, to have the health of my eye checked, this test is an extra 39 dollars. No problem, the technician, I think her name was Natalie was very clear and non pressuring to me in taking the test. I appreciated that.
I was taken into a back room where I then met Dr. Weiss, she was friendly and did her job but she did not seem to listen to me. She asked me the same question three times over the time of my visit and it was clear that she was not really listening to what I had to say. I had given her my answer three times and it was like it went in one ear and out the other… .Oh well… she checked my eyes and that is what I paid her to do… the bedside manor… well… next time I think Ill opt for an Optometrist that actually listens to my responses when they ask me questions. This place seemed overpriced.
