Our store features supplements, tack, hardware, vet medicines and poultry needs and much much more. We deliver 6 days a week and specialize in customer satisfaction. The Double S Tack and Feed has been in business for 30 years servicing many customers throughout the San Diego County!

History

Established in 1977.

The original Double S Tack and Feed was originally called Renegade Feed — the upstairs was clothing and tack and the downstairs was feed and supplies. Now the upstairs is the popular Renegade Bar and we are still going strong downstairs with our feed and supplies!

Two passions in life, restaurant business and horses! After years working in the restaurant industry I made a career change and found the Double S Tack and Feed in March of 2010. The Double S Tack and Feed has been a huge blessing in my life and the customers that frequent the store have made a huge impact in my life! I hope to spend as many years at The Double S Tack and Feed as I have spent in the restaurant industry! As many people point out to me daily «you’re still feeding animals»! The Double S Tack and Feed is a unique feed store filled with a special customer satisfaction!

Bought 2 day old chicks. As a first time chick owner I found the staff very helpful, store clean, lots of feed /​supplies for your animals, and they sold vaccinated chicks for mareks disease. I am very excited to be a first time chick /​hen owner!

What can I say about this place but, YES! They always have what you need and they are knowledgeable about their products. I bought my baby chicks from them and they were very healthy. I called them a few times with questions about them and they had all the answers. They are a quality store.

Drove out to Double S today to get some feed and scratch for the chickens. Get all the way there, let them know what I want so they can load it, go to pay and realize that I forgot my wallet. The Proprietor at first said, «don’t worry about it, leave your stuff here, run home and come back, I’ll hold it here.»
I let her know that I lived about ten/​twelve miles away and I’d have to come back tomorrow and she said, «Oh, well take it with you and come back tomorrow and pay.» Then she said, better yet, «call me with your card number, that way you don’t have to make the trip.»
Then it occurred to me, I’ve never had a bad experience there. They are always friendly, courteous, and informative; and I realized it all starts with the owner/​proprietor of the business. From the top down everybody is great to work with there. Explains why I drive out there to get our feed instead of going to the places nearer home – the people and atmosphere.

Absolutely a great store. I rescued a baby pigeon and I had no idea how to feed it or what to do with it. I literally walked in to the store with my baby pigeon and asked for help. Kim at the store was so sweet and she trained me on how to feed my new pet. Great staff and always helpful.

Ever since Rita took over this feedstore it just keeps improving… and to the benefit of the customer! She is always expanding the selection of items from gifts to horse treats to the dog, cat and bird section.
I have shopped around in the past for quality hay but Double S always has consistent bales so for the last 2 years I have only gotten my hay from Double S.
AND…Double S has weekend specials like a dollar off hay and has coupons in their monthly newsletter!
Great knowledgeable staff-​highly recommend for ALL your pet needs or pest control needs. They even have numerous hardware products!

I love this place! The staff is very freindly and quick to help you out. I bought my chickens from them and they helped me everytime I called with a question. I just wish they had a chick replacement policy if you get stuck with a rooster. Other wise they are wonderful.

Double S has a great staff. Very Knowledgeable. Ask, if they don’t know they will find out. They have everything under the sun or they can order it. I don’t find that the prices are outrageous. They support animal adoptions & have adoption days. I like that they support the community. Very special people .
There are feed stores closer to me but I much prefer Double S’ atmosphere, friendliness & prices (& Murphy of course).

Every time I buy something at another feed store~ I should just kick myself because the Double S always has it for less than what I paid at the other local tack stores. The selection, prices and people working there are great! That’s why I now drive out of my way to go there instead of going to the other stores that are on my daily route.

Super amazing place to get anything you need for your cows, horses, dogs, cats or whatever else you can think of. Friendliest people you’ll find. Run by a serious professional with great people skills. Knowledgable staff. I’ve never seen anyone come out of there dissatisfied. I refer everyone I talk to that lives in the area to them. Check them out. You won’t be disapointed.

Wow, what a turn around the new owners have made in this long-​time East County feed store. In recent years it has been run down, with little stock on their shelves. Now, it’s clean, well organized, a fun place to shop. They will order anything you want, but I can find most things on their shelves. Mostly I love how helpful they are in making selections, like when we got new kitties. Got a deal on some chicks because they had more coming in. Well informed, friendly, helpful. Doesn’t get much better than that for me to come back.

Ok. So I wanted to buy some baby chickens; chicks. Crazy right?
I went to Double S and the lady took one look at me and said, «Looking for chicks?» I guess she could tell I was a city boy. Obviously not there to buy feed for my cows. I just told her, «Yeah, I want to get some chicks. But I don’t know anything about it»
What followed was 30 minutes of her giving me the lowdown on baby chickens. She helped me pick out the things I should buy (all cheap stuff, like $ 3 – 4 each) and told me how I could save money by using household stuff (cardboard box, etc). She even steered me toward the wise purchases ($ 4 for a 5 lb bag of feed vs $ 8 for a 25 lb bag).
Awesome place. Go there to buy your horse chow. Or if like me you’re looking to enter into some urban farmstead experiment go there too; they’ll hook you up.
