History

Established in 1960.

JE Boutique is a Sassoon School Connection Academy located in East San Diego County in El Cajon. This campus was recently renovated to provide students with a real world salon experience. Students begin their education in the freshman room that is stocked with all of the latest equipment and supplies to learn the technical and practical procedures they will need to succeed.

After the Freshman Room, the students graduate to the clinic where they have an opportunity to work on real clientele. The school has a large vibrant clinic for the Cosmetology, Esthetics and Spa Nail Technician students. In addition, JE Boutique has a retail area that allows students to focus on their sales and marketing skills.

JE Boutique is highly respected for its post-​graduation placement and licensure rates. Our top notch instructional team provides our students with one of the finest technical educations in all of Southern California.

Business Owner

Lynelle Lynch, an accomplished visionary and entrepreneur, took over as President and Owner in August of 2005. Lynelle’s fresh perspective on the beauty and wellness education business allowed her to see all the opportunity that lay dormant in this business. She quickly started pulling from her vast experience in marketing, retail, politics and management to rethink how she could revolutionize beauty education. This lead to her first decision — to offer advanced education that was unprecedented in beauty school education and career development. These programs remain unsurpassed in quality and excellence to this day.

Lynelle has cultivated an Advisory Board of successful industry leaders who share the focus to elevate the educational experience and meet the current professional demands. This place is located within a strip mall next door to Big Lots. This was my first time coming and I had a pedicure appointment. I was pleasantly greeted at the front upon entering and was introduced to Ashlee who did my pedicure. She was wonderful, friendly, and paid attention to detail. I definitely recommend going to Ashlee for nails.

I went here to have my hair re-​done after a «professional» colorists made my hair orange, brassy, and straight up ugly. Kathleen Drewy is the student who colored my hair. She turned my mop into a beautiful, ashy-​brown. I was so happy with the results, and she is an absolute sweetheart. She took her time, and reassured every step before moving forward. I am so happy with my hair, I can’t wait to go back and get it re-​colored by her. Also, her instructor, Jenn, was absolutely wonderful by making sure every part of my coloring process went accordingly. Moral of story: just because you go to a established salon, doesn’t mean your colorists will be so, too. Thank you Kathleen and Jenn.

I admit to committing a box dye crime against my hair. Like all women everywhere I fell for the models on the hair dye boxes that smiled back at me, as though to say «you can be just as happy as I am for the low price of $ 9.00!». I decided to go blond and for several months I maintained the color on my own. I was quite proud of my work, at least I was until I paid a visit to Bellus Academy. Initially I fought it, but Jessica Maxwell insisted that my hair needed a professional touch, so I finally caved under her admirable persistence. Damn did my hair need rescuing. Have you ever looked back at old photos of yourself and thought «oh god, what was I thinking?». Well, despite it only having been a few months since I first had my hair professionally done, I am already feeling that way when I look back at my hair before Jessica. They put me in front of the mirror and forced me to open my eyes to the uneven coloring and lovely tumbleweed-​texture mane that I had created. I have now gone twice and the poor girl has had to do major damage control. This last visit she went a little lighter than what I had initially wanted, but since then I have had major compliments on my hair! She even made light blond somehow work for me. I see a great future for this girl. She is attentive and the persistence she applied to getting my unbelievably stubborn ass to come in is the same persistence that she applies to my equally stubborn hair; she never lets me leave until I am 100% satisfied.
Sorry that I look pissed in the picture. It wasn’t because of my hair, it was because it is physically impossible for me to look like I am happy about being awake at 5am.

So I decided to get my legs and underarms waxed for the first time and a friend recommended I go to Bellus as it is a school and the prices are lower than a regular Salon. I booked the appt. and when I arrived I was a bit put off by the homeless people hanging around near the front entrance area but thats not the fault of Bellus. After a five minute wait I was introduced to Courtney, who was my Esthetician for the day. She was very thorough and diligent and as the sign says the procedure takes longer than it would at another Spa as these are students perfuming the services. An instructor came in during the procedure to check out how things were going which was nice. I was there for over an hour but Courtney did an amazing job and didn’t miss a single hair. And I have very thin blonde hair on my legs which is not easy to see. I love the oil and moisturizers they use because I thought I would be red and irritated coming out but my skin looked and felt great. She has great technique and a very soft calming voice, I will definitely come back for more treatments with Courtney before she graduates.

I was recently referred by a friend to see Shelby Lago at Bellus Academy. I was a little nervous because its a school, but it was a fantastic experience! It was easy to make an appointment and the staff was very friendly. I wanted to get a natural, subtle balayage but I don’t know a ton about hair and coloring and all of that. I came in with a few pictures and Shelby took care of the rest. She really guided me through the process and made sure I was on board with the plan. She was super friendly, easy to talk to, and the time passed quickly. And the final product was perfect!!! It was exactly what I wanted. It looks great curly and straight and she showed me a few cool style tricks.
Great experience and I can’t wait to go back!

I went in today for a trim, shampoo and round brush. Nadia Glasa did an amazing job on my hair! I was nervous at first because I really didn’t want a lot of my hair cut, just the dead ends. Nadia ask me questions about my hair. She made me feel at ease and constantly inquired if I needed anything. She did exactly what I asked, only cutting off the dead ends which wasn’t as much as I thought. She has a gentle touch and my blow dry relaxed me to the point of sleep :) I liked all of the products she used (I’m sorry I don’t remember the name of the products). I thought that this was going to be an all day appointment but I was in and out in under two hours and my hair feels like silk!!! I am very happy with my service and will definitely be back again.

This was my first time coming here… I happened to be in San Diego and really needed a trim with layers. Everywhere was booked so I was so glad I was able to get an appointment here! My stylist was named Tommy and she was so nice! She did a great job with my hair, being that it is so long! Of course it took about 2.5 hours but i expected that as it was a beauty school and I have such long hair! The layers turned out amazing! Only $ 10 for wash cut and blow dry!

My friend was studying here when I went for a haircut. I had a complicated idea in mind, and she was patient and highly skilled, humorous and knew the other students well. I’m very glad I supported her, and I can tell they train their students well! Haircuts are very affordable too, especially if it’s your first time.

I was over due for a Bellus trip. I’m so glad I went. I called in on a Wednesday and was booked for the next day 7÷9÷15.
They sent me a confirmation text about my appointment that evening, which was nice.
The morning of my appointment Samantha called me and informed me my preferred stylist wasn’t available and I was rebooked with Ingrid, instead.
I needed a deep conditioner and a shampoo/​blow dry.
Boy did she ever. She was as sweet as can be, and exactly who I needed to see. Her gentle kind spirit calmed me before my New York trip the following day. :) she was so amazing and the finished product was so awesome. I am ecstatic to show off my locks to my family. I will be so confident over there!
So, in conclusion. I will totally go back before she graduates in November. I am so glad we met, thanks Ingrid. :)

I just had an age reform glycolic facial with Chelsea, and I could not be happier! I was a little nervous to go to a beauty school at first, but now I’m hooked. Chelsea did such a good job I forgot she wasn’t a «licensed» esthetician. She listened to my concerns and recommended a facial to improve my problem skin. I would like to point out a few things to address any concerns other reviewers may have that would lead them to leave a bad review. The facial room is a big room with multiple stations and a partition for you to change. No private spa like atmosphere here. They don’t have a padded bed for you to lay on (it’s more like a dentists chair) but they pad it with blankets etc, and I actually found it pretty comfortable. Chelsea didn’t give me a play by play of each step, but she was very attentive during the peel process, and it actually made me feel more comfortable because I already know the steps and didn’t need someone talking during the whole process. Just remember that this is a school and these are students. The icing on the cake was that I got a discount because it’s my birthday month so my facial was under $ 30!!! I will also get 20% off my next facial for booking it at my first.

I had my hair colored by Jamie Hann and she did an amazing job. She was very thorough and dedicated to getting the exact color I was looking for. You can tell she’s very passionate and loves what she does. She has a way of making you feel like the most beautiful person. I definitely would recommend Jamie Hann to anyone. I can’t wait to go see her again.

I had my first facial at Bellus and how do I say this, Jenifer was awesome. She patiently went through each procedure she was about to preform and executed them perfectly. At the end she provided guidance for my skin care
needs. If you need help with your skin I certainly recommend Jenifer. :-)

This place is great! The prices are seriously super low for the quality of services you’ll receive. I’ve been seeing Jaime, she’s wonderful. I have very difficult to deal with hair and she knows just how to work with it!
The first time I went, we did the keratin smoothing treatment. It’s a little pricey ($ 150+ depending on how much hair you have, which I have A LOT of…) but is totally worth it! They said it lasts about 90 days and I’m about a month in and am still loving my results.
My most recent appointment went PERFECTLY. I brought a photo of what I wanted in. Bam! Done!
I had dark brown hair and Jamie lightened everything and gave me a red/​blonde ombré. $ 55!!! You cannot beat that anywhere.
If anyone is a little nervous about this place being a cosmetology school and having students work on you, please at least try them out. All of these girls obviously have a passion for what they do and they are closely monitored and mentored by the great teachers and staff there.
I literally have no complaints about this place. Thumbs up!

I went from having no eye lashes to full lashes. I’ve spent $ 200 on eye lash extensions at a professional salon that only lasted for 3 days and nobody recognized and it’s been 2 weeks so far and my current eye lashes is still on and I’ve gotten compliments from people and had it done for free for being her model. I highly recommend getting an appointment with Jaimie Han. :)

I’m in love with this place. I’ve been getting wonderful services from the students. I went to get a haircut and I was scared but I have learn to trust the students, and I was not dissapointed. Lucy cut my hair with so much detail and perfection that I felt like a movie star. I also received a wella oil reflections treatment and my hair was smooth and shiny. I can’t stop admiring my hair and I’m really happy by the final result.
I was also impressed by the instructors who genuinely care about their students learning. 3 different instructors checked and answer questions from the students cutting my hair. I think the instructor that seems to be really great is Tom, but not so sure that’s his name. Last time I came he helped the gal doing a hair treatment. So I have to say I left very pleased, yes it took ½ of my day, but so worth it. The prices are great for the quality products they used. It’s like walking to a high end salon. So now I will save so I can come back and get a hair color. Have you seen the students haircolor??? So pretty. I trust they will do the same for my hair. Alright till next time! :)

So I am a crazy person with Pink hair, and getting my naturally dark hair light enough to get the pink to show has either been expensive or difficult with some disastrous accidents to boot
Finding out that I could go to Bellus Academy, just to get my roots bleached was a revelation!
Sadly Bellus academy doesn’t do crazy colors, like purple or pink, they seem to want to make their clients look like responsible adults, but they do an excellent job bleaching my roots, that sets me up perfectly to add my crazy color later.
Although the setting itself isn’t «salon chic» the teachers and students were awesome and I felt very well taken care of.
I will be back often, since black roots with pink hair just in’t a good look on me.
I also plan on taking advantage on some of the other services they offer, in the future
