Business Owner

Eye Pieces of Vail, the locals’ optical shop, was started in 1984 by a 23 year old from upstate New York. Dan Barry, the son of an optician and an avid skier, hitchhiked to Vail after working the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid, where he was the Official Optician of the Winter Games.

Planning only to stay for a season, Dan took a position at an optical shop on E. Meadow Dr. in Vail Village. After four years, he took over the shop and renamed it Eye Pieces of Vail. The store has not shut it’s doors since.
