I thought I was getting a great deal on a pair of Prada frames through their trunk show. They said I’d have to wait up to 6 weeks to get the frames, but I was ok with it because I really loved them. About 3 weeks in to the waiting period I got a call from Macy’s Optical. Turns out the frames weren’t yet«released» by the designer and I would have to wait 2 extra months to get them. When I said I wanted a refund, I was told to «just wait» and maybe they could get them in a week. When I called back to speak to the manager to demand a refund she told me I had to wait until the next day because she had to go through my insurance. I said, that it would be fine as long as they called me after they talked to my insurance and could send me a receipt with a proof of refund. The next day I got a message saying that they got the frames and would I like them to send them off to have lenses put in them. I spoke with the manager again and told her I did not want the frames! I wanted a refund and a receipt sent to me. Yesterday I got a call from Macy’s Optical saying that my glasses are ready to be picked up… After speaking with another salesperson, apparently I have been refunded, but someone still sent out the glasses. I still haven’t gotten my reciept yet. They said to call back in another week if I don’t get it by then. I had a really poor experience at Macy’s Optical on many levels. My request for a refund was blatantly ignored multiple times. I made multiple trips to the store itself and every time I had to wait for at least 10 minutes to talk to someone. I still have no copy of any receipt of any purchase or refund made there. Plus, I had a pair of sunglasses fitted by a technician there and I had to take them to be fixed somewhere else because she practically mangled the sides of them. If you are at Southdale looking for glasses, go to Lens Crafters. I got my glasses there in 1 hour, no BS, and the guy fixed my sunglasses for free.

I just bought $ 800+ of Designer Frames and Lenses for my teenager, and the cost was only half of that with lucky timing of a super-sale. The staff are quite helpful, and the selection of frames is excellent. Other than they are often busy with quite a few other customers at the same time, and it takes several weeks to obtain the merchandise– no complaints!

I recently visited the Optical department for a routine eye exam, and the whole experience was quite pleasant. The optometrist was a really nice guy who did a good job balancing knowledge with approachability. He was honest, and did not try to guilt me into things I did not need just so he could make an extra buck. I’ve never had to order glasses there, so I cannot speak to the previous review, but the doctor did need to order contact lenses, which came in less than a week. I’d definitely go back.

I have had glasses/contacts for a very long time, which means I get my eyes checked every year, if not every other year. So I’ve been to a dozen of places to get my eyes examined and it’s all been pretty much the same routine. More recently I’ve been getting designer glasses, and I’ve checked out the selection at Pearle Vision and Lenscrafters(my last pair were Prada frames from Lenscrafters), but I wanted to switch it up a little and try some place new. Happen to walk around Southdale Macy’s and saw that they had an optical center and I happen to have a $ 100 gift card there as well, so I said why not… uh…bad idea!!! I had my eye examination in either March or April and I’ve FINALLY got my glasses! I happen to get a pair of Fendi frames that were in their trunk show they were having at the time, but they were also in the store so it didn’t matter that they were in the trunk show… or so I thought. They said trunk show frames may take up to 4 weeks!!! Unheard of! Well, if you can keep up here’s what happened: I got my «finished» pair of glasses after waiting 4+ weeks… BUT they were the wrong frames! How do you mess that one up right? So then they ordered my frames again and that took another 1.5 weeks or so. It comes in right? Well, it needed a few adjustments such as tweaking the nose pieces as well as the part that goes behind your ears. So, I don’t know why, but the MANAGER takes off the original nose pieces and puts on different ones and manages to scratch the lens. I told her that I wanted a new lens. Hey, I paid for designer glasses, they better be immaculate right? Which meant I had to come back another time. I come back after another couple of weeks and as she takes out the lens and puts the new one in, she scratches the frame… like a big ‘olé gash! I was absolutely disgusted with a MANAGER’S handiwork. I mean, you would think as a manager, she’s careful and got these things down. Apparently not… so she ends up ordering me a new frame. You guessed it… it comes in and one of her cohorts tries to place the lenses in the frame… she couldn’t do it… it took her over 1 hour of trying! She calls the manager at home hoping she could do something about it, but couldn’t get a hold of her so she calls up one of the girls from the sunglasses area. The girl puts in this really long screw to try to hold the lens in the frame. Ghetto? I think so. So finally I told them that I wanted a new pair of glasses — new meaning new lens inside the frame and that if I had to come back all they had to do was just adjust the nose piece and that they were sending it straight to my house. NO… they couldn’t even get that right… they sent me my old pair of frames with new lenses… which meant that the frames they sent back were the ones with the scratch in it. Yep… they are completely incompetent of their work. I went back once again telling them that they needed to order me a new pair and that I was keeping the old pair for backup. Which meant that I was getting at least a 350.00 pair of glasses for free. I think I may have even left out a couple more trips in here, but there were so many things wrong with them, that I can’t even remember all of their mishaps! In the end, that’s exactly what happened… after 5 long effen months! Yes, if it were up to me, I would give them no stars. Ridiculous… you would think that an upscale department store would get things right, but I’m definitely not going back there again. The manager should NOT be the manager, this is her profession, she should be able to do this without any snags. Come on now!
