Edgecomb Potters Galleries was voted «Best of the Road» by Rand McNally & in Sept 2009, they were recognized on the Congressional floor by US Senator from Maine, Olympia Snowe as a «superb Maine company and for the innovative spirit of its founders».

History

Established in 1976.

In 1976, Richard & Chris Hilton began building a dream of making pottery in a one-​room schoolhouse on the road to Boothbay Harbor. Thirty-​five years later, Edgecomb Potters has a national brand recognition for a high caliber of work with an inventive spirit. In this era of mass-​produced products made overseas, Richard and Chris continue to create porcelain pottery with their own clay and glazes in their Maine studio. Richard’s passion for glaze development has led him to be considered a national standard as recognized by articles in numerous publications.

Nice pottery and venue for Maine craftworkers, but I’m mostly giving stars for the markdown tables on the deck. Yay! Great place to stop when you’re in Edgecomb.

Can’t recommend this place enough. We visited the Portland gallery in July and fell in love with a beautiful wood, turquoise and copper lamp. I called back in December to see if one was still available for a special Christmas gift. Kevin texted me photos of several options, measured the various lamps and calculated shipping. Then, when UPS would not be able to get the lamp to us in time for Christmas, Chelsea and Donna tracked it down at the UPS store, stopped it from being loaded onto the truck and expedited the shipping. A Christmas miracle! Thank you Edgecomb Potters for being the best.

I think I just found my new favorite pottery store and I’ve been to a few. Beautiful glazes and lots of choices of styles and shapes. Plus they sell small defected items at a discount. Must stop if you’re in the area or even if you’re not.

I’ve always loved pottery at a young age and this place reopened that curiosity. The art and colors on each and every piece are spectacular. I was tempted to buy one of the mugs or a piece of jewelry, but I refrained only because it was my first time visiting and I usually like to look around to see if I like it or not. The owner or cashier (not sure) was super energetic and friendly, which I thought was awesome for a pottery gallery. The pieces are pricey, but you get what you pay for, right? People take their time to put together something creative and captivating to those who enjoy it and I think it’s worth it!
Take a walk on the wild side and visit this awesome gallery.

definitely a good destination point if you are along route 27, heading towards boothbay.
every time we are in the coastal area of maine, edgecomb potters can expect us to drop some cash. cha-​ching.
the entrance or deck carries an array of discounted pieces that didn’t make the A+ grade (you still will need a good eye to see the imperfection). they are adorned on shelves surrounded by very interesting metal art.
make it a point to see handmade pottery full of quality and cool ceramic glazing — stands out above the rest.
anyone can kick a wheel and mold a block of clay into a desired creation, but not many are artistically inclined.
i highly recommend; great for gifts (everyone who received loves it).
don’t get burned in a tacky kiln as you will with other knockoff places (not naming, but you can tell the difference).

OK, so if you come to Maine and are into art and pottery, then you most come to this real Maine Gem! Everything here is first rate and the best of quality! This family own and operated gallery is very friendly, and more concerned about what you need than what they can sell you! I have there pottery, stained glass, and jewelry. I will be coming back again and again:) and so will you!

Three and a half stars. We’ve been stopping at this place every time we’ve been in Maine. They’re celebrating 30 years in business and over time it’s grown large. The deck outside is full of racks and tables of pottery seconds and markdowns interspersed among cool metal sculptures, my favorite being a huge flying praying mantis that moves. They have their own pottery and an array of stained glass, jewelry and other interesting pieces in the shop/​gallery. There were gorgeous wooden jewelry boxes I coveted but didn’t need. There’s something coldly commercial about the place that didn’t used to be there and I find myself a little repelled rather than drawn in. Over the years we’ve bought Tam earrings here and a tabletop fountain for Alan’s office. I forget what all else we’ve bought. But I didn’t feel the same sense of pleasure wandering here today that I did in Once A Tree or Maine Gathering.
