History

Established in 1987.

When we opened back in September of 1988 we were a small neighborhood store, affiliated with Kenwood Veterinary Clinic. Our business philosophy was to create a shop that would offer the best knowledge and service available for the pets and products we recommended. We hoped to build a clientele primarily through the referral of veterinarians and satisfied customers. We have always felt that working with birds places a responsibility on us to do the best job we can and to encourage the same in our customers. Our intent has never been to project a «holier than though» attitude, only to provide our customers with the most updated knowledge and benefit of our experience. We have never tried to be a high volume sales store, but to do the best job we know how. There is no more satisfying part of our job than knowing that we have given someone advice, products and information that helped them to better understand their bird (s).

Business Owner

Terry Beaudoin’s experience with birds began when he was seven years old. These years have included working with raptors at the University of Minnesota Raptor Rehabilitation Center, with other native birds and of course with many members of the parrot family. Terry worked for many years as a veterinary technician in a practice with an interest in exotic animals including companion birds.

After 2 years of general college he attended the University of Minnesota from 1984 through 1987 where his studies were designed to fit the 3 year program for application to the College of Veterinary Medicine. He finished these studies in June of 1987, applied to Veterinary College and was accepted September 1987. He decided not to attend for personal reasons and went into partnership with the veterinarians of the Kenwood Veterinary Clinic to open Isles Pet Supply, which later became Parrot Island, Along with his wife Shari and son, Troy, he owns and operates Parrot Island, Inc.
