Full of mystery and lots of history this Rock Eagle Effigy is much larger than photos can portray. Climb to the top of the granite tower 6 – 7 stories to get an areal view. It’s a peaceful and quiet historical site. The effigy itself is fenced to protect it. Ample parking, and easy rock paved path lead to it if you’re unable to climb steps. Also, no restroom within site, so plan ahead if you have small children. The trails do not allow pets, however was able to bring my Boston to the effigy!

One of my favorite places on Earth. I’ve been here around 30 times since 5th grade. I’ve attended camp 5 times here and encourage anyone 5th through 12th grade to go. It changed my life. My start in 4-​H began here. Rock Eagle is beautiful, especially in the fall. All of the cabins are currently being torn down and rebuilt a few at a time. It’s a large camp with 57 cabins sleeping roughly 18 or so each. Rock Eagle Lake (shaped appropriately) is great for sailing and canoeing! Large dining hall, nice canteen, and beautiful chapel. I’ve posted a map in my pictures.

WOW! This place is really neat! It’s a like a boys scouts campground with lots of little cabins spread out. There is a really big lake and lots of picnic tables. I went durring a 4-​H BB Gun Championship and wished I could have stayed longer.

Rock Eagle mound should be listed as one of the man made wonders of the world. It is a huge quartz eagle shaped effigy in Eatonton that is believed to have been constructed between 1000 and 3000 years ago by the Archaic or Woodland Indian people. It is believed to have been a ceremonial mound.
Rock Eagle is a great place to drop by for a picnic, to hike, camp, or just be lazy for the day. There is a big observation tower where you can view the entire eagle effigy or you can take a hike down some of the trails or hang out at the lake.
Nearby, you will also find a smaller not so popular mound that goes by the name Rock Hawk.
