Good for piercings, bad for tattoos. Splash is definitely overpriced, but if you want a well done piercing that is going to last, it’s your best bet. Tattoos are a different story. Unprofessional and rude, you are much better off going somewhere in Lansing and avoiding Splash altogether.

They are ridiculously expensive. Had to buy a lip ring and it was 31.50!!! It was very small and I could not believe my total. The only reason I bought it here was because they are so close to home — they definitely use the fact that they’re the inky tattoo/​piercing place near MSU campus to their advantage and bump up their prices. The people are nice, the prices are terrible

If the owner of Splash is reading this can you please fire the girl that works at the counter. Idk her name, all I know is that every time I’ve come in to get a piercing she’s been extremely rude to me. The first time I thought maybe she was just having a bad day, but no she always has a bad attitude. I even go out of my way to be nice to her and she is still super short with me when I ask questions and acts like I’m wasting her time. It honestly makes me super uncomfortable. Anyways, she’s the reason for the 3 stars. If it weren’t for her I’d give 5 because Andy is the best piercer I’ve ever had. He’s very professional and also just really nice. I wouldn’t go to anyone else for a piercing.

Rj great guy. Took us as a walk in. We liked rj. 15 years here. Got a tattoo and it was misplelled and we didn’t notice and got a misplelled tattoo. I know, we were just too excited. Rj got us back in after and we made the most of it. Rj was honest, great personality. I got spoiled by my first tattoo artist. Our own fault not noticing, nice artist, high priced, cool music, cool office.

There work is ok. But they are extremely over priced and all their artists that worked with me are so rude. Also, they don’t even really talk to you about what you are going to get put on your body for the rest of your life. I thought they would work with me to find the best version of what I wanted but they are all about rushing you to get their next client. They don’t care. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone looking to get a tattoo.

I just got a tattoo done by Nate Graves and I could not be more happy with it. It was my first tattoo so I was very new to the process and Nate was not only very helpful with determining my design, but was extremely nice too, chatting with me and my friend while getting my tattoo done. I wasn’t exactly sure how I wanted my tattoo to look at first and had just brought in a few different pictures describing what I liked about each one and he drew up a design that I absolutely fell in love with. The studio is a bit pricey, but for a tattoo that is going to stay on my body for the rest of my life it was definitely worth it and I recommend Nate to anyone who’s looking for a great artist!

I’ve been to Splash of Color a few times. Once with a friend, once for myself. My friend got her left nostril pierced and was happy with her experience. When I went I got my left nostril and my daith pierced. The piercer was the same who had pierced my friend. I had originally went in to get my left nostril and a vertical tragus piercing, I wanted it done with a surface bar, but the piercer told me he did not feel comfortable doing it because of the veins that run to the brain in that area. His words were something like «That piercing should be done with dermal anchors… I would feel comfortable pretty much putting them anywhere but there and (I think he said the finger?)… It’s a risky piercing because you could accidentally hit one of the veins going up to the brain and that would be bad…» I was disappointed, but at the time I respected him for saying no. Because I wanted more than just my nose pierced, I decided to get my daith pierced. Both piercings were done well, and have healed since. My experience was good, other than the girl behind the counter was not welcoming, and never smiled once. I felt like she felt more entitled to have an attitude because her face was full of piercings, and because of that she thought maybe I knew nothing about them? I’m not sure, she just had a kind of «better than you» attitude.
This review would be in a much better light if I had not experienced better, and if they had not been completely rude to my friend when she inquired about a few piercings her and I were looking to get done.
A few months ago my friend and I were looking to get pierced. She wanted her tongue pierced, and I wanted my tongue web and both nipples pierced. Granted we were inquiring about a walk in spot, and we did not have an appointment, when my friend came back she said she was treated really poorly and that the woman she talked to responded very rudely. My friend told me the woman harshly told her they didn’t do tongue web piercings and never explained why. She said the only response she got was a blunt «We don’t do those.» I fully understand that’s a lot to ask for of a walk in appointment, especially if they were already busy, but we would have been more inclined to have waited and scheduled an appointment if she would have been nicer.
This was actually a blessing in disguise, because if I would have got pierced at Splash of Color, I would have never gone to Kitten Flower in Grand Rapids (an hour away, but worth it). When going to Kitten Flower, I got both my nipples, and my tongue web pierced during a walk in appointment, for almost half of the price I would have had to pay at Splash of Color. I was also treated much better. When I asked if I could get my tongue web pierced at Kitten Flower, and had explained why I was hesitant to ask, she explained that piercers often say no because of how much of a pain it is to do, and how if not done properly or taken care of properly, it can get infected easily. She was totally down to do it. Also when I told her about how my vertical tragus request was turned down, she made a face like she was confused as to why they would have done that, but I didn’t inquire any further. So that makes two piercings turned away that another piercing shop wouldn’t have hesitated to do. I respect the fact the piercers told us they weren’t comfortable doing them, but it just doesn’t seem right that another place would do them without any hesitation. Also, Splash of Color is pretty expensive, especially for college students like me.
In summary, Splash of Color isn’t horrible. I’ve been happy with the piercings I’ve got there. They’ve been great at explaining after care, and making me feel comfortable during. I’m not saying steer clear of this place, I’m just saying I’ve been to better, cheaper places, who are more willing and able to consider and accomplish my requests, and are a whole lot better in the customer service area!

This place is very well maintained and meets all the safety and sanitation standards. People at the front desk are really helpful and knowledgeable. I have done all my tattoos from this place. My artist was a guy named Perry. He was a decent artist and reasonable in his rate. Only thing that bothered me about him was his occasional attitude. Bottom line is, Perry, when you are taking somebody’s money and providing them a service, please make sure not to act all bossy. It is called professionalism which is equally (if not more) important as your artistry in your business!
Anyway, otherwise, thumps up for this place!

update: two years later, and my nostril piercing that I had done at Splash is still perfectly healed.
This place also was SO helpful when my ear piercing, which I had done 10+ years ago at the mall before I knew better, became infected out of the blue. they replaced the old jewelry with high quality neometal and generously gave me an entire bottle of prescription strength puracyn to clear up the infection. without their help I probably would have had to go to the hospital. Did I mention that I only paid for the jewelry, and they weren’t even the ones who did the original ear piercing? Amazing. Thank you Splash!

Overcharge. For the collage kids! Rude obnoxious hipsters that work there and run it. Wouldnt recommend this place for people that work there asses off for there money rich kids only apply.

My first tattoo was done at splash. Several years later I went back to visit my parents and decided to stop in. I had john smalls that day and have used him ever since. His shading is amazing. I tend to to enjoy black and grey tattoos. I have gotten a ton of compliments on my tatts and other tattoo artists that I have gone to when I can’t make it out to lansing have admired them and asked who the artist was. John is super sweet and is pretty much awesome!

I’ve had two great piercing experiences here. The first time, I made an appointment and I got spider bites– two lip rings on the same side as opposed to the snake bite which is one on either side. I got these done one right after the other which was painful, but the piercer was gentle and masterful and it only hurt for a little bit. They sent me off with a little care package and told me to come back in 6 weeks and they would change out my jewelry, which they did. I also got my septum done here. I just walked right in this time and they took me within a half hour. The piercer took great pains to make sure he made his guide mark in the exact right spot, and he must have because it hurt about as bad as plucking an eyebrow hair.
This place is so clean and professional that they can get away with charging top dollar. When you’re having people stab your face with needles, it’s always better to be safe than sorry and just pay the premium for a really quality experience.

Affordable artists with good skills, and it’s a nice clean shop. I got a Led Zeppelin tattoo there when I was around 19 – 20 and it didn’t hurt too bad, at least from what I remember. The guy who did it was cool and quick, just how I like it! Haaa

Wouldn’t have even given one star if I had a choice. Just left Splash after showing RJ a simple drawing and bouncing around some ideas with him. Not only did he act like he didn’t even want to talk me he shot down three different ideas in a row I had without even offering to draw up an example. Some of the worst customer service I have ever experienced. I got the impression I didn’t look enough like a tattoo chick for him. Seems hypocritical as hell to me.

I had been searching for an artist to do a large cover up that most said could not be done. I found Perry through a friend some years back and decided to give him a call. Perry assured me that it could be done and he’d be happy to tackle it — I gave him free reign to design something. Although I was nervous due to the many who claimed it was not possible I booked the appointment.
Upon arrival, the shop was extremely clean and the staff was extra friendly. His pricing is fair and worth every penny. Perry made the mess I had look like a beautiful, fresh work of art. The piece is smooth and the colors are vibrant. I could not be happier with the work he did.
Highly recommend Splash of Color!

Just got my third tattoo — and first one here. The other two were acquired in Vegas and Berkeley. Add East Lansing to the good experiences with skinking.
Bart was my artist — worked with my design (a simple Ironman race logo), listened well, did good work and touched up my other similar tattoo done in Berkeley 15 months ago.
No complaints. Healing well. Looks good. Compliments from my friends. Everything great, including the price and service: everyone was helpful and kind.
Would definitely get another mark here if convenient.

My experience here is limited to getting a replacement ring, so take it as you will.
Unilocal’ers weren’t kidding when they compared this place to a doctor’s office. They are very clean and very professional. I haven’t had to consult them on an actual piercing or tattoo, but they were friendly enough for the brief service I needed.
I do, however, have to knock off some stars for how expensive it is. I have had a ring replaced at an equally clean and professional studio for less than half the cost (in a different — and more expensive — part of the country, or I’d name it for y’all to check out). If their tattoos and piercings are similarly expensive, I would still consider coming here, but I’d be looking around elsewhere first.

I got my industrial here about, hmmm 6 years ago or so. I’ve also had a few tattoos done here as well.
I’m always impressed with their cleanliness and professionalism. It is as clean as a doctor’s office and they take very good care of you, making sure that you know the proper steps in cleaning and healing for a new tattoo or piercing. Splash also has a good selection of jewelry if you are looking for something new.

Before I knew any better, I went to the mall and let them blow out my cartilage with a gun and the infected holes never healed. I finally gave up and removed the earrings three years later.
This time around, I figured I would start with the basics and get my lobes pierced… the right way. Malls are unsanitary and the staff has very limited training.
Splash was fantastic. I am allergic to nickel, but they only use good quality metal. It was like walking into a doctors office. Very professional, the guy that pierced me was really friendly and thorough.
A year later, I came back to get an industrial piercing and I was equally impressed.
Yes, it is pricey, but I would rather pay for quality and get piercings that are going to heal well and last a lifetime.

I love, love, LOVE Splash of Color. Yes, it’s expensive; I have never gotten a tattoo there, but I somehow still managed to spend over $ 1000 at Splash of Color during my college career (mostly on body piercings/​jewelry). Renee (one of the piercers) is a giant sweetheart so I suggest requesting her for all your piercing needs. I believe my daith piercing is even featured in her portfolio.
Splash is often busy, so I also suggest making an appointment rather than just showing up. The counter staff is usually helpful, and the place is ALWAYS spotless. It almost reminds me of a doctor’s office (except the walls are painted way cooler colors).
I have 2 friends who got (large) tattoos from Mikey at Splash and they both love them (but yes, they were expensive). I would recommend checking out Splash if you are interested in a tattoo or piercing and are in the Lansing area!
