On Target Training Inc

After quite some time, I’ve decided to write a review because I’m compelled to let everyone know my experience at On Target Training.
After much research I settled On Target Training to take my gun safety class to obtain my LTC. The trainer, Ed, seemed like a respected and experienced person in the field of firearms. I opted for the live fire class at the Braintree Rifle and Pistol club. The class was informative and Ed did a good job of teaching the curriculum and explaining everything.
After receiving my permit I returned to On Target to purchase my first firearm. Again, I exhaustively researched my options and coincidentally Ed had sent out a email newsletter, which I had subscribed to, announcing a sale on the firearm I was planning on purchasing. I immediately called him up and asked if I could place a deposit on it until I was able to pick it up. I was in the middle of a move and had not been able to pick up the gun for two weeks, when I got a call from Ed saying that if I didn’t pay off the balance or pick it up by the weekend he would sell it to someone else. Not wanting to lose out on the opportunity, since the gun was back ordered for about 2 months, I gave him the balance over the phone.
That weekend I took the hour drive to the shop to pick up my new gun. As I stood at the counter with Ed waiting for him to complete the transaction, another customer approached and asked me what I bought. I told him the model and he replied «Very nice! We finished everything up, I signed the paperwork and was on my way. I went out to my car opened to box to admire my new hardware and to my shock it was a completely different model than I originally ordered. so I closed the box and walked back in. I explained to Ed that this wasn’t what I asked for. He proceeded to tell me that’s exactly what I asked for in the email I had sent him. The truth was that I had never had any email communication with him about this deal. ever, yet he insisted I did. When I asked him to show me the emails, he couldn’t produce them. He carried on by saying, «Just taking it out and pull the trigger, you have fun with it! And if you don’t like it, you’ll easily get your money back when you sell it».
I can say now that was all a hoax just to get me out of the store. I’ve recently sold the gun and in fact lost money on the deal. Incidentally, I fell for the old bait and switch. I firearm I had on hold was likely sold and what I was given was put in its place. Ed had the opportunity to correct me when I told that customer what I thought I was buying, but he instead took my money and ran. With the questionable integrity and business practices of a place like that I will never return, and also make it a point to discourage anyone else from doing business there as well.
I realize that my experience may not be typical, but it happened none the less.

Great place to go whether you are new to guns or have an arsenal already. I took my gun safety class here which was the first step in getting a LTC in MA. They offer classes either at the store location or a live fire class at Braintree Rifle and Pistol club. I took the live fire class.
The guy who owns the store, Ed, is a great guy to talk with and is not into any high pressure sales. I went to the store over a dozen times looking at various guns before I finally made my first purchase. After that, I spent another several dozen visits looking at other guns and just having fun talking with everyone there. And yes, I did make other purchases finally!
The store was originally on the small side but still had quite a bit of stock. They recently expanded the shop after a Zumba closed down so the store is quite large. He normally keeps a good selection of guns on hand. Lot’s of Rugers, Smith and Wesson’s, some Sig’s. He usually has a bunch of gen 1 and gen 2 glocks for sale as well which can be hard to find here in MA. He keeps ammo stocks as best as he can in the current ammo shortage. Other than .380acp and 22LR, he seems to always have ammo in stock.
Prices range from good to «MSRP». I’ve purchased some ammo that would be considered on the very low end of price but he also has ammo that is very expensive. Examples would be when I saw Magtech for about $ 20 a box for .40 caliber (which is low price in today’s market) and some Winchester for $ 30 (which is really high). regardless of prices which can fluctuate a lot these days, he usually has ammo in stock if I need it.
Gun prices are usually around MSRP. I’ve seen some of the guns he sells for less elsewhere but Ed will have sales from time to time or you can haggle with him a bit. He also carries a lot of used guns so you can save a lot of money grabbing one of these. I bought one and it has been flawless for me.
Overall, a great place to stop in and do some shopping. And also a great place to learn stuff whether it is gun saftey, gun laws or just general shooting. Everyone who works there is friendly and willing to help.
