There are many things I miss about NYC. The food choices and variety; the supermarket every 3 blocks; the unending supply of good, fast, reliable public transit; the parks and public libraries; the water views never more than 6 blocks away; and the gyms.
I belonged to a few over the years there. But my fav was one in Rock Center where you could have your own locker, they would do gym laundry for you, and it had more towels than you ever needed. Yes, it was aimed at the corporate office workers in the area, which included NBC. You did not have to have a membership where you had your own locker or they did laundry. But you could. Those lockers were also in a separate locker room. So you «got to know your neighbor» if they were on your schedule.
But even the gym in a building I lived in was nice. With both sauna and steamroom. Clean. Great pool.
Then I looked for a gym in Buffalo. None had towels. Most had only ok locker rooms and not enough working equipment. Or they were dirty. Very.
Then I was given a groupon for Hive. Totally not near me. And I’m very location driven for gyms. I was anyway. I drove out here one day and took a tour. This place is closer to my expectations. Finally. It’s spacious. The women’s locker room is large. 4 large showers. A nice sauna. I do wish they had better shampoos and shower things but ok. The towels are on the smaller side which is also a shame.
The equipment is clean and modern. It’s also well organized. The treadmills have TVs with tons of cable choices. The stairmasters don’t have TVs, sadly.
They offer a bunch of different classes throughout the day. You need to reserve a spot in them but so far I have not had issues there. They also do a lot of smaller «semi private» classes. Some of their classes cost extra, gravity, human sport and a few others. I’m not sure I understand why gyms do this. You bought the equipment, its a sunk cost. So let people use it.
They have varying levels of membership, but it’s all expensive.
It’s clear they know their members by name and face which can be great. You’ll feel right at home in no time.

5 stars for the classes I’ve taken so far
2 stars for the locker room lack of high end soaps and things; small towels.
5 stars for plenty of workout towels available.
3 stars for not really supplying yoga mats. There are a few but they want members to bring their own. Really? Weird.
5 stars for not being too busy when I’m there, which is never after 4pm. So during the day it’s not too busy.
3 stars for not all equipment having TVs or Ipod chargers (working) on them
4 overall. Id probably be at 5 if I had not had the NYC gyms in my past. And Id be at 3 comparing them head to head. My 4 is a rounded up 3.5.
It also has a small spa inside which I have not made use of. There is a whole physical therapy area as well which seems to be busy whenever I have been.
Easy parking

I joined January 1 and could not be happier. From the knowledgeable, outstanding and friendly staff (they all seem to know your name) to the cleanest gym I have ever been in, I can’t say enough. They have the latest classes and change it up quite a bit so I can’t imagine getting «bored» here.

It’s the talented people that make the gym as well as their equipment. The locker room/​showers are always spotless and provide towels so I don’t have to bring my own from home. Most importantly, the well educated trainers work with you based on your ability and adjust for health conditions. The unsung heroes are those at the front desk. There’s been times I left personal products at home and they’ve been very accommodating in letting me use theirs or willing to run to the store, which was the TOTAL WOW FACTOR!!! It takes a lot to wow me because I’m in the service industry, but they ace it every time!

I just officially joined 2 weeks ago an love it. I live in North Buffalo but still come out to the HIVE to work out becasue it is such a great high end gym. It is motivating and so clean. All new equipment with TVs in each machine. Brand new sauna in the locker rooms. There are various classes offered and personal trainers. Also has a children play area if you need to bring the kids.

Hive is a great place to get healthy! It’s feels so much different than a typical gym. You feel refreshed as soon as you walk in the door. The staff are all so friendly and helpful. The childcare is really good. The sauna is amazing. And I especially love the yoga classes!

Great Gym with great equipment. The pictures don’t do this place justice. The equipment is very nice with high end functional movement capability. The few times equipment broke down it was quickly fixed (1wk) The locker rooms are clean, the staff/​trainers are friendly. They also offer daycare which is a plus!
The only downside is you feel like your in a Modern New York City loft– the whole place is white with horrible lighting– Then they have all these weird pictures with people staring at nothing? Not very inspirational to say the least. I understand they want a clean look but this definitely missed the spot.
