Come check us out! Your first class is free! Syncstudio Downtown is our second location in Durham and just like our first location in South Durham we offer group exercise classes and personal training. We specialize in Indoor Cycling classes, Power Flow Yoga classes and TRX training classes. Unique to our studio is our very own style of indoor cycling called Synccycling.

History

Established in 2010.

Established in 2010 In 2008, SYNCStudio was a mere idea that was thrown around over dinner amongst a group of friends whose camaraderie emerged in 2003 from a mutual love of synchronized cycling and great music. The idea was that SYNCStudio would become home to a unique cycling style they and so many others had fallen in love with and remained committed to over the years. However, in addition to this unique cardio work out the group wanted to offer another passion of theirs: yoga. SYNCStudio remains committed to the dream of offering modern and innovative fitness solutions by encouraging and nurturing creative instructors that constantly take new approaches to health and fitness — it’s group exercise and fitness against the grain!

We opened our second location in Durham in September 2011.

Business Owner

Paper Pusher and SYNCCycling instructor for SYNCStudio, Ashley started her adventure cycling in 2003. A year after stumbling into a cycling class she was subbing and soon became a certified Johnny G instructor teaching until she moved across the country for college in 2005. However, despite the distance and time away from the saddle while she was in school and living in China, she is back, ready to take on classes and spread her love of cycling and music again! If you are looking for a workout motivated by music, then her class is right for you– she spends hours creating playlists that offer more than your typical Top 40.

When Ashley’s not on a bike, yoga mat or in SYNCStudio she is probably drinking coffee at Bean Traders.

Disclosure — I don’t like spinning. I’m not one of those people who is into spinning. But this studio is right by my house and I liked the idea of the combo classes with circuits. I either pretty much just do SyncCombo or SyncCircuit (I particularly like Lauren’s class on a Sunday).
The staff are really friendly and offer good adjustments. In terms of the spinning — I think the music is good but some of the instructors have been hit or miss for me.
Great deals for students!
Overall — great experience and has become a staple in my workout routine.

Great workout! I tried a cycle class here and it was hard! The instructor had so much energy and kept you moving the whole time. The music was on point too… I love when teachers coordinate their routines to the songs! Really fun!
My only gripe would be the actual bikes… they’re so old and falling apart! Being a spin and yoga fanatic, I’m accustomed to paying high prices for classes. However, usually the studios compensate by having super nice facilities and equipment. I was a little disappointed with this studio. The bikes need a HUGE upgrade. They are super rusty, old, and I noticed parts of bikes were broken or missing (my seat was torn up). If you’re gonna charge people $ 18 for a drop-​in class, I think you should invest in new bikes!

I love the spinning classes here. The instructors are fun and motivating without being annoying and play great music. Matty and Kyle are my favorite instructions because they are both super energetic and positive. The staff and students are also very friendly and welcoming, which I love.

I can honestly say that I’ve never had so much fun during a workout than I have here at SyncStudio. My friend encouraged me to go after telling me about all the classes she would take during the week and my curiosity finally got the better part of me! She signed me up for the 30 days for $ 30 new client membership and I took the Tuesday night 1-​hour class with Kyle Yamakawa and ERMAHGERD — I fell in LOVE! I’ve been to my fair share of workout classes in Raleigh and Durham with different organizations but this was by far the only place where the entire class I was laughing, sweating bullets, out of breath and still smiling!
Kyle was so fun and welcoming to everyone in the class and immediately came up to introduce himself to me. Not only that, the class was small enough that I didn’t get lost in the crowd but also didn’t feel that people were staring at me for being a newbie. The music was fan-​freaking-​tastic and kept me going. I didn’t even realize that the class had been going for an hour until he said there was one song left.
I’ve been to a few classes since and want to go all the time. I’ve even referred my best friend to join the $ 30 for 1 month membership and she’s super excited to go to Kyle’s class! I would absolutely recommend SyncStudio to anyone who is interested in letting loose, feeling comfortable and maybe even make some friends in the process :)

I started taking SyncCycling classes in June after a good friend encouraged me to join her at a class. This place is amazing. The instructors are phenomenal: encouraging, supportive, friendly, enthusiastic and all-​around wonderful.
Ashley Lively, the Head of Operations at Sync, pays attention to her clients and easily recognizes newcomers. She is usually at the door at the downtown studio and kindly showed me the ropes at my first class.
Classes are challenging, but most importantly they are FUN! It’s hard to NOT literally «spin your butt off» when you’re working out alongside these people. In particular, Kyle Yamakawa is beyond fabulous — I look forward to his class every Tuesday night — that kid has more energy than almost anyone I know!
If looking for a place to get your groove/​sweat/​serious workout on in a very non-​judgmental, extremely enjoyable environment; drop in for a class at Sync — 2 locations in Durham. I regularly attend classes at both studios and they are equally fantastic.

The downtown studio is small and intimate. I’m doing 2 – 3 classes here a week. You will find many of the same instructors here that you do in the Southpointe location. They’re all absolutely wonderful.
This location doesn’t have as full of a schedule as the south durham location, but it’s smaller so they can’t accomodate.
There is a small parking lot in front of the storefront and if that fills up (which i have yet to experience) you have street parking. This location is really close to Greenleaf, walking distance really. But you’ll want to park on location anyway… Unless of course you’re grabbing beers after your session!

If you’ve ever been to the SYNCStudio at Southpoint — Its very much the same experience, only in a different location. I’m impressed with the ability to take an experience and flawlessly duplicate it across town.
The studio here is a one room wonder — its a large open space that fits in the easily movable stationary Lifefitness cycles, and transforms into a wider space when offering yoga classes. The room itself is very bright and airy, and kind of reminds me of a ballet studio.
They also have TRX equipment there — which is a great thing to try out if you’ve never done it before! It uses straps and your own body weight to do resistance training, and is really kind of fun. There aren’t a lot of places that offer it, and I’m really excited that they’re offering it here as well (and I’d totally go to more if they weren’t so early. I like sleep:).
After my first class at the new location, I’m thinking I’ll definitely have to make a bigger effort to go to the downtown classes — its in downtown Durham, has Brightleaf within walking distance, and often has small classes that you can get a lot of individual attention in.
I hope they eventually end up expanding this location!
