Powerstrings LLC offers acoustic and electric guitar lessons to beginners and experienced players of all ages in multiple genres including blues, rock, country, metal, pop and more. Instructor and veteran musician Ted Hardin has over 25 years of musical experience, playing electric, acoustic and slide guitar as well as the cello. He also has eight years of guitar instruction experience. Some of his former students have gone on to successful professional careers as touring musicians and songwriters.

Ted started Powerstrings in 2014 after 25 years of experience teaching, selling and fixing guitars.

Business Owner

Ted has played lead guitar with many local, regional and national acts over the years, including the The Downtown Senate, Randy Whitt and the Grits, The Franklin Street Band, American Idol finalist Anoop Desai, and country star Chase Rice. He currently plays locally with a number of groups including The Gregory Blaine Trio, Downtown Senate, The Jaybirds, Chris Wimberley, and Rootzie.

Ted learned to play cello and guitar as a teen. He attended Appalachian State University as a scholarship cellist. After moving to Chapel Hill, Ted worked as the shop technician at the Music Loft of Carrboro, NC for eight years, where he served the needs of well-​known musicians in the Chapel Hill/​Carrboro music scene. Since moving to Durham, Ted has worked as shop foreman at the Electric Violin Shop, where he combines his skills as an electric guitar tech and his knowledge of classical lutherie in the highly specialized and unique field of electric bowed string instruments.
