We offer all major and minor auto repair services. We range from regular oil changes to major tune ups to major engine or transmission repair and/​or replacements/​rebuilds if needed.

We specialize in Honda, Lexus, Acura and Toyota. We also have a Volvo and Subaru specialized technician. We strive to be competitive with our prices and will honor most coupons from other shops.

History

Established in 1999.

We are currently celebrating our 10 year anniversary. Matt Clark founded N-​Tune Automotive after serving as lead tech at Crown Honda, a dealership here in Durham, NC. We are a locally owned and operated shop and Matt still currently actively repairs vehicles here at our shop. All of our technicians have been here for many years, ranging up to 9 years shortly after Matt founded N-​Tune Automotive. You will still find these mechanics today. We are a 5 bay 4 mechanic shop. We strive to be open and honest with our customers. We don’t like to see customers waste money on a vehicle that may not be fixable, and if you need a service but can wait we will tell you and work with you on any issues that do arise.

Our biggest business comes from word of mouth and repeat customers. We treat you like you’re family.

Owner Matt Clark, founded N-​Tune Automotive in 1999. He served as lead tech at Crown Honda, a honda dealership before deciding to open his own business in order to meet the increasing demands for technicians with specialities in foreign made vehicles.

Found this place as a backup for a simple NC inspection. Although it is a bit off the beaten path (you drive through 2 unpaved parking lots to get here), the staff are incredibly friendly and the service is very efficient.
We showed up on a Friday afternoon to get an inspection done. A simple task, but I wanted to make sure it gets done right and I always prefer to spend my money at a local place. This shop delivered. Nothing special about it and the waiting room is definitely no-​frills, but it is efficient with seats for waiting and some semi-​modern magazines. The mechanic running the front desk was very friendly and took good care of my car. The inspection was fast, and we were on our way.
One thing to note, however, is that it is definitely off the beaten path. We drove from south Durham, so we ended up turning off of 15 – 501 and heading through some rural areas before turning into a small dirt lot. The shop itself is surrounded with cars in various states of repair. Like I said, nothing special, but the service we got was awesome. Would definitely go back.

These guys are awesome. I had a lot of work done on my vehicle today. And they worked with me to make sure it was back on the road good as new. We ran into an issue with a part coming in wrong. Scott (the owner) worked with me and got it fixed with no problem. He was very apologetic for the part being wrong and did not charge me extra for anything. Love these guys will definitely be coming back for oil changes and any other vehicle problems I have. They have excellent pricing and GREAT customer service. Hands down one of the best in durham.

I called and made an appointment for an oil change and they managed to squeeze me in on the same day! There’s not really much to say! They do the job and they do it quick and well for a very reasonable price!
While changing my oil, they also found a leak in a valve on one of my tires and so kindly helped me out with that! It’s also nice supporting a smaller, locally owned business!
Just a word to the wise, this place is a bit difficult to find. It’s seemingly in the middle of nowhere, but with the help of google maps, you should be totally fine!

I thought twice about writing this review due to the other good reviews but what happened to me should be public knowledge. A month ago I took my truck to N-​Tune for an inspection. At that time they told me one of the headlights was loose and needed to be secured (A.K.A. NO LONGER ABLE TO MOVE) before it would pass inspection. The quote they gave me to do the work was over $ 800, which consisted of two new headlights and their labor. This was way more than I could afford and seemed unnecessary since the lights both worked and the only thing wrong was a cracked bracket on the left headlight. I HAD IT FIXED ELSEWHERE FOR LESS THAN $ 50.
Well, today I took the truck back for an inspection to give them another chance. It should be noted that the headlights work perfectly and are not loose in their housings. After spending an hour there, I was informed the truck would not pass because it had to have OEM or factory parts in order for him to pass the truck. He changed me $ 23 to fail me when a state inspection only costs $ 13.60. He still pushed me to spend the $ 800 for «factory headlights» and was shocked when I didn’t agree to the work. This man doesn’t understand how the law is written for state inspections or is a shiester that uses the state inspection as a way of trying to take advantage of the general public.
There are way too many choices for auto care in our area to be strong armed into overspending on unnecessary repairs. We cannot recommend this business and strongly urge others to shop around before taking your vehicle here for ANYTHING.

I went for a simple state inspection because I’ve been trying to find a good place instead of commercialized places. I called and they set me up with an appointment to come in right away. The place was a little tough to find, but I made it and their service was quick and painless. Very friendly staff and so far this place seems like it’s exactly what I’ve been looking for (good family owned business). Will definitely go there again for my next car need, and I will update here.

Matt and his crew are outstanding and this is coming from a guy who does most of his own work on all of his cars. My other «car guy» friends worked with them in the past and had nothing but good things to say about their service (which is how I found out about them). They are quick, thorough and fair and because of that, I have recommended them to my non-​mechanically inclined friends as well. If you are going to Jiffy Lube or some big chain to get your routine service or inspections in Chapel Hill, you are wasting your time and probably your money on the services that they up-​sell you on.

THE BEST! Why? Honesty, skill and service top my list of superlatives. N-​Tune was recommended to me by a friend several years ago. Up until that time I avoided car maintenance because of the perfunctory treatment and feeling I was always being sold a bit more than needed. NONE of that at N-​TUNE. From scheduling convenient appointments with Sarah to the whizz bang work done by Matt and Scott, I am thoroughly satisfied. They diagnose correctly and price fairly. I can’t imagine taking my car any other place. Great job, N-​TUNE.

Legends! We came over from New Zealand and they’ve helped us with our car completely. Cannot recommend them enough! We’ve since moved up to DC and I’d even consider driving down to NC just to have their service. Honest, fast and excellent work. Not expensive and will not charge you unnecessarily. I have lived in the area since 1980 and can honestly say that N-​Tune is the best place I have found for car repair.
The staff are all excellent, honest, and the cost is very reasonable. Above all, you will know that your car will be diagnosed accurately and fixed appropriately.
If your car needs repair, go straight to N-​tune and no where else. You won’t be disappointed.

N-​tune Automotive has the most honest, efficient, friendly, and skilled mechanics I’ve ever had the pleasure of doing business with. Their shop came highly recommended to me, and in turn, I give this place this highest marks! Matt, Scott, Sara, and the rest of the team are super friendly and always take time to explain the repairs and answer any questions I have. They stick by their estimates, even when the job is more complicated than they expected, and have always provided a loaner for me. N-tune’s mechanics are trustworthy and have saved me a bundle over the years. In fact, I’m the only person I know who actually looks forward to taking her car to the garage. N-​tune gives auto mechanics a good name!

These guys were great. They were recommended to me by a colleague, and I was glad I took his suggestion. The staff was very friendly. I took my car in for its 90,000 mile maintenance; it cost about $ 500. I asked about a quote for a couple dents on my car, and they had a guy from the body shop next door come take a look at it while my car was there. The NTune mechanic (didn’t catch his name unfortunately) told me if I took my car back he could pop out some of the dents with heat so I wouldn’t have to replace the whole piece.
A word to the wise– Google maps tells you to go on I-​40 to get to this place, but you can’t get here from I-​40. To get here, turn onto Mt Moriah from 15 – 501 and then take a left onto Erwin Rd. NTune will come up on your left but it’s behind a body shop, so you have to drive into the body shop parking lot and around back to get to NTune.

Yep, this is the place you need to take your car. My Acura had a problem the Wilmington, NC Acura dealer and other shops couldn’t figure out. In about 1.5 hours N-​Tune figured it out, a loose ground wire. Good thing I didn’t let Acura replace all the parts and pumps they said I needed. For the two years I was in Durham, these were the go to buys for my automotive repairs. Friendly, expert work and trustworthy. If I go back to the area, no one else will touch my car expect N-​Tune.
