The Museum of Life and Science offers a handful of «adult only» events post regular hours. The Heroes & Villains event kicked off Durham’s Comic Con, and boy did the costumes come out! What you should know about these events: you have to talk to people! It’s set up with tables of vendors and a handful of interactive exhibits. If you don’t like talking to vendors about their products, these events aren’t for you. There are samples, etc. but the majority of people present at these events are there to get the word out about their product and to interact with potential customers. Among this list you’ll have non-profits/university groups(including UNC’s Neural Connections, UNC Department of Physics and Astronomy, Duke Meta Group, IEEEENCS Humanoid Robot Project Team and Carolina Ghostbusters), restaurants/beverage sponsors(Bull City Ciderworks and Mystic Bourbon) and directly related business(for this event: Atomic Empire, The Baxter, The Scrap Exchange). Some of the other interactive vendors included Red Storm Entertainment, with a very low-grade simulator, Bull City Escape, who hosted escape games but had a limited amount of spots which were gone within the first thirty minutes, and Wine and Design with mini paint your own canvases. They also had trivia groups throughout the night and the Shadow Players Stage Combat Group gave«performances”/exhibitions. Overall, the Museum AfterHours events are fun, but this particular event seemed a bit lacking for the $ 25/person($ 20 for members) price tag. It was convenient to have all the vendors in the same place and Heroes & Villains is a great place to show off your costume pre Comic Con, but overall the event was only A-Ok in my book.
