I was referred to Mike’s by my good friends at Ingold Tire Company when the transmission in my 1996 Dodge Ram 1500 truck died. I called and spoke with Martin and explained my issue. He quoted me an estimate on the phone and it seemed very reasonable to me. I told him that it was at Ingold and that I would have to get it towed to his shop. He told me that he would tow it and that it was included in the price estimate he gave me. A few days late he had my truck ready for me to come pick up. I must say that I am extremely happy with the quality of work his guys did. He backs his work with a 2-year/24,000 mile warranty. Transmission repair isn’t something I expect very often but I am very pleased that I found Mike’s when i did need help. I highly recommend them if you are in need of this type of automobile service. And by the way… his estimate was accurate.

I had a very bad experience with this place today!!!
My brother picked up my car around 6pm today October 23^rd 2015.
I dropped my car off at Mike’s Transmission a month ago. I was told that I needed a new transmission after they ran the diagnostic. I was giving 3 options on my transmission. I choose to get a used transmission that just recently was rebuild and under 100,00 miles. $ 1400 I was told. I worked hard to get the money. In the process of me getting the money together. Mike told me Thats on of the pieces wasn’t agreeing with the car so he had to order another piece and he will call me when they put it on and test it. I had to call them many times because they never followed up with a call back, that was promised. They had lack of communication. Last week Friday I was told from Mike that they were putting on the piece and will call me back to tell me how everything communicated. Still no call back, I called him and he said «I didn’t put on the piece, because you said you wasn’t paying until Friday». I felt that was so rude and unprofessional for him to say that. So I replied «I need my car for work and I think it would be best for you to know a head of time that my car is working 100% before I come and pick it up». He stated that I didn’t have anything to worry about. Ok!
Today October 23^rd my brother picked up my car around 6 pm. drove it to my job. I decided to test drive it my self as soon as I put the car and gear my car jerked so hard to go forward we both hurt our necks. So I asked my brother didn’t this happen when he first drove it… he said many of time during the 15 minute drive to me… Then stopping at the stop light was a hassle .the car would roll backwards and then jerk very hard forward while my foot was lightly on the break… After driving my car for 30 mins, my check engine light came on and my Neutral light was flashing… After reading the manual when the neutral light flashes while driving its a transmission problem…
NOW I JUST PAID THIS COMPANY $ 1400 AND I AM HAVING MORE PROBLEMS NOW THEN BEFORE I DROPPED IT OFF! SMH
So decided to call the owner Martin and I was very upset… Instead of him understand me and delivering great customer service he started screaming at me and long story short told me and my family to come Monday morning to get pur money and shove the car and money up our ASS! Those were his exact words!
I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND THE TO NO ONE BECAUSE FIRST OF ALL I DONT THINK THE EVER GOT ME A TRANSMISSION AND I NEVER GOT THE SO CALLED DIAGNOSTIC TEST THEY SAID THEY RAN!
ALL I WANTED WAS A RELIABLE CAR TO GET BACK AND FORTH TO WORK TO PROVIDE FOR MY FAMILY AND I THOUGHT I HAD HOPE WITH MIKES TRANSMISSION THAT JUST MADE MATTERS WORST! I JUST FEEL LIKE CRYING I CANT BELIEVE THEY WOULD TRY AND GET OVER ON SOMEONE! $ 1400 IS NOT EASY TO COME BY!

I had a fantastic experience here given the circumstances with my car! I had originally dropped it off at a Mazda dealership in Raleigh since it was close to my work where my car started having problems. The dealership charged me $ 115 to check the issue and quoted me over $ 4,000 for a new transmission (which I was definitely not willing to pay). I called Mike’s Transmission Service multiple times that day trying to figure everything out and they were SO HELPFUL every time!
Checking the issue was free — granted I had a feeling I was definitely going to go here because of the Unilocal reviews. They went all the way to the Raleigh dealership to tow my car for me (HUGE PLUS in my opinion). The end price was lower than what had been quoted and much lower than the dealership. Also, they let me know of another issue that I should get checked out… the dealership completely missed that I guess.

People at Mike’s transmission were really nice and professional. They fixed my transmission in almost no time, being honest and knowing what they were doing. I would completely recomend them!

This place is excellent! The transmission in my 2001 Acura MDX was rapidly dying, as evidenced by the check engine codes, the dealers assessment and verified by Mike’s. When I first contacted Mike’s for a ballpark estimate, they evaluated the car for free. This entailed a real examination and a better explanation than the dealer provided of what the problem actually was and that a repair wasn’t an option (rebuild or replace). I had them rebuild the transmission and it’s running great. I had a different car in a few years ago and had a similar, stellar experience. Just to cap off the review, I know of several instances where they told people that it didn’t make sense to repair their transmission. All in all, a great shop. If you need transmission work done, go to Mike’s.

I have had two wonderful experiences with my Toyota Carolla at Mike’s Transmission Service.
Last summer, a local car dealership told me that I would need to have my transmission replaced and quoted me an obscenely high number. I called around Durham to several other places, hoping to find a better deal, and every last one of them referred me to Mike’s. I brought the car in and they looked at it, free of charge. They agreed that my transmission needed to be replaced, but they explained everything to me in a straightforward way. They also laid out all of my options. I ultimately decided to have them «rebuild» the transmission, as it seemed like the smartest choice– both for my bank account and the car!
More recently, the same local car dealership told me that I had oil leaks in my engine that would result in $ 1500 worth of work. Additionally, I was made to feel that it would be irresponsible of me not to fix them right away. I called around for estimates and, once again, was referred by many people to Mike’s. This was due to the location of one of the leaks being under the transmission. It hadn’t occurred to me that a transmission shop would also handle something like this, or else Mike’s would have been my first stop! Mike’s Transmission Service looked at the vehicle, once again free of charge, and told me that the leaks were minor and I didn’t need to do anything. I was so surprised that they gave me an honest assessment and didn’t just rattle off a few hundred bucks worth of repairs I «needed», like so many shops would have done!
I felt like I was treated with respect by Mike’s Transmission Service each and every time I interacted with an employee. I felt confident that I was dealing with truly honest and good people. I would recommend Mike’s to anyone!
