James L Pyle, DDS

Dr. Pyle has been my dentist for 20 years. When I first became a patient I had been neglectful of my dental hygiene and was quite nervous. Although there was some work to be done I can say my care has been stellar and valuable. Dr. Pyle always gives professional advice and options that fit my needs and budget. I feel as though I am treated like a family member.

Dr. Pyle came highly reccomended by a friend. Mostly I just get teeth cleaned but a couple years back I had a cap built, instead of a full crown. I was impressed that he was dedicated to perserving as much of the tooth as possible. The protecting dam to keep metals from going down my throat worked! At other dentist’s this had not been the case.

When I first moved back to the Triangle area, it had been a few years since I had seen a dentist, and I knew I was overdue for a checkup (and probably had acquired a cavity or two along the way). I had no idea how to find a dentist, so when I happened to drive down Broad Street and see the sign for Dr. Pyle’s office, I thought, «Yay! Dentist so close to where I live!» and immediately made an appointment. While the office staff was friendly enough, and Dr. Pyle was superficially friendly, I only saw him for about five seconds during my first visit. He noted a cavity, so I came back on a different day for it to be filled. Mid-​cavity filling, he discovered another cavity, and filled that too. After I left, the filling dislodged on that same day, and I suffered severe tooth pain for the next week. It eventually healed and improved on its own, but I overall got the sense that Dr. Pyle did a rushed job, and was not careful or thorough. In all my years going to many dentists, I have never encountered one who spent as little time examining and reviewing teeth as this one did. So I did not return, and am much happier with my new one.

Recently had a first checkup here and was quite impressed. Everyone I interacted with was friendly and helped put me at ease. Most importantly for me, they showed me my X-​rays and explained what was going on in a way that invited questions and discussion rather than stifling it them. They had more tech toys than I’ve seen at a dentist’s office before and they actually seemed to make good use of them; I feel like the tech definitely added to the diagnostic effort. For example, they took photographs of some potential problem teeth to see if the situation changes between now and my next visit. It’s simple, but I’ve never had anyone in the medical profession document to that level… it’s almost like they expect to see me again!
With service like that, they definitely will.
