Welcome to our Fred Astaire Dance Studio in Durham, NC. We are the largest dance studio in the triangle area. Fred Astaire is a franchise dance studio and has been teaching students to dance using their award-​winning curriculum since 1947. We have classes for all ages and abilities from beginner through advanced. We offer both private and group lessons in Ballroom, Latin, Swing Dance and Wedding Dance.

Fred Astaire is a franchise dance studio and has been teaching students to dance using their award-​winning curriculum since 1947. And in Durham NC since 1987. Many of our instructors, including both the owners, Yuriy and Oksana, have competed professionally and accumulated a long list of honors and awards. Our instructors have also won awards and certificates of merit for their dance teaching skills. Many of our students have progressed on to win their own awards and honors.

Business Owner

Yuriy and Oksana both began their dance careers at the age of 7. Yuriy Simakov and Oksana Klyuchnyk came to the USA in 2003 to develop Ballroom Dance in the Raleigh-​Durham, NC area. Their relationship later blossomed into marriage. Not only did they become the owners of the Fred Astaire Dance Studio in Durham, NC, but the couple is also still actively competing at the highest level all over the USA. Together they bring their knowledge and excellence to the Triangle area in NC.

My husband and I have been taking dance lessons at Fred Astaire Dance Studio in Durham and we are very happy with their service! The instructors are awesome – world class dancers, great teachers, patient, friendly. The building is very comfortable and the dance floor affords you lots of space to dance. They have a dance party on Fridays which is lots of fun for all! You get asked to dance a lot by all the teachers and other students. It is a fun experience! The only drawback we have is that it is expensive but since you learn to dance at a fast pace, it is worth it. We highly recommend this dance studio!!!

I had a wonderful time working with Tori on two dances for my wedding. My father and I learned a dance as well as my fiancé and I. He is always enthusiastic and upbeat, and he enabled us to learn the dances super quickly. He cut our music for us and picked great dance steps for our personalities, songs and abilities! Fred Astaire has amazing teachers who are world class dancers. They are so supportive and really really great people. If you want to learn ballroom dancing, then this is the place for you. Even if you have two left feet, they’ll make you feel like a dancer. Go try it for yourself and don’t be scared. They’re very supportive.

I had a fantastic experience at FAD Durham!!! I would recommend them to any and all that even have a passing interest in dance. They have a program of instruction that will fit your needs and I promise you’ll smile all the while. Invest in the right shoes and you’ll start off on the right foot. Better yet, I give a sincere endorsement for the professional abilities of Oksana Sidak! This dynamo was able to build my confidence and skills. My partner and I went to Fred Astaire to learn a first dance for our wedding and we had a wonderful experience! While the private lessons were expensive, they were definitely worth what we paid. Tori is an amazing instructor– my partner is not a dancer at all and he was able to go slowly without ever making us feel incompetent. He was so fun to work with and choreographed a routine that was easy enough to learn in a few lessons but was fun to watch. My partner even says he wants to keep taking lessons!

Albert Einstein once said «Dancers are the athletes of God.» Uh, I guess that means I’m on his JV squad. But that’s actually leaps and bounds from where Phil and I started! I mean, we’re probably still not going to be invited to appear on So You Think You Can Dance any time soon, but with the help of a very patient Yulia and fifteen of her 45-​minute lessons, you too can boast a passable repertoire of rumba, salsa, swing and foxtrot!
Even though my partner dances with two left feet, and grooves more awkward than a deer on acid, we were able to eventually perfect a choreographed first wedding dance — without calling off our engagement… and I think we may have impressed a few guests (yes, other than mommy and daddy).
They are pretty flexible with their private scheduling and we switched ours up from week-​to-​week Our private choreo lessons were in a spacious-​enough room that’s separated by a divider (so you can sometimes hear the neighboring music). The basic lessons were in the main ballroom, which is large enough we were able to share it with the other couples without running into them, mostly.
Astaire would be proud. Ok, maybe not.
