Durham Rescue Mission Thrift Store

This place is HUGE — I literally spent about 2 hours in here. I went for multiple trips to the fitting room too. There’s great finds all around you, you’ve just really gotta look for them. Some things are a little over priced, but if you pay attention to the colors of the tags to see what is BOGO or discounted you can get some good deals. Overall this place is pretty great & be prepared to spend a while in there!

This is the best thrift store in Durham! Huge selection, very affordable, pleasant staff, easy donations.

Very nice staff– I was getting a bunch of glassware to craft with/​use for my wedding, and I have very little money. The person checking me out offered to give me a bundle discount since I was buying so many pieces and practically gave them to me! I don’t know if she could see I was struggling, but she was so very nice and it meant the world to me. This organization helps out those in need, locally, directly. This is the only thrift store I will donate to or use from now on. Thank you Durham Rescue Mission!

Nice store but expensive for a thrift store. I like GCF’S pricing better. There are so many things to buy but it’s really pricey. Maybe I will return but not soon, maybe in a few months when I am in the area.

I do not recommend this store. I love thrift store shopping, but this place is poorly managed. They have a huge inventory, which is great fun to dig through. However, they have red tag sales that they don’t honor at checkout! When I pointed this out, the guy told me He couldn’t refund me because the only person who could run the cash register was in a meeting, and then he tried to tell me that the tagged items weren’t on sale after all. I wouldn’t recommend shopping here. Go to the Nearly New shop down the road — a much better thrift store!

Lot’s of GREAT finds!!! Huge thrift store with lots of inventory: clothes; housewares; bridal/​formal; furniture etc. They have 50% off bric-​à-​brac including china unless it just came in that month. Give yourself time to treasure hunt. I always score great finds here! The only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars is because sometimes they will have some items that are overpriced.

I’m a veteran thrift shopper! I’ve seen it all and not much surprises me but THIS place does! Never have I been to any retail establishment, of any sort, where there were nicer, more polite, more enthusiastic staff than here, at the Durham Rescue Mission!

Great store! So many wonderful things. Lots of books and music and the housewares section is great. Only thing that keeps it from being five stars is the prices can be a little high $ 20 for a used three times metal server seems high for a thrift shop. Great store tho!

Not anymore I think they have gotten very greedy with there prices. A pair of used Levis 560 for 12.99 I don’t think so… Hardcover books 1.75 and paperbacks .99 better to go to the Goodwill Stores where you can get a pair of levis for 3.49 and books are .50…

One of the newer Durham Rescue Missions in the area but large and good selection of household goods, books, clothes and one of the biggest selections of furniture. I think the only other DRM that completes is the location off 70. Thrifty has never been an easy mission for me, I can get overwhelmed by the selection and quality of options. However, if you can overlook that, this location has a large selection of options and many ways to save extra. Wednesdays are student days, when students receive a discount and they also have partners with Bull City Bucks so you have the option of paying with «Bucks» and getting 25−50% discounts!
While DRM is a little more expensive then Good Will, I think their selection and organization of materials makes the visit worth while, and they’ve always got some interesting (religious) tunes playing over the speaker to make your shopping experience that much better.

One of my favorite stores… great selection and great prices however they need to step up security on the cds dvds I don’t know how many times ive picked up items to purchase and no cd be inside disappointing

I’ve been to two locations of this place in the last two days, both were great shopping experiences.
The store, this location especially, has a huge selection of goods at fantastic prices. There is enough staff around to help out, but not make you feel like you’re being stalked.
Great selection of loose toys, which is rare at thrift stores in this area it seems, and tons of books. I was in heaven.
Nice wide aisles for the most part, which is nice when there are more than 1 customer in an aisle.
I’ll definitely check it out again next time I’m in town.

One of my favorite treasure hunt stops. Tons to look at, fairly well organized. Great kids clothes. The tables/​bins are hard to look through. Definitely a good stop for clothing and knick knacks.

Every time I’ve been to the Durham Rescue Mission Thrift Store, I’ve had a good experience. I’m a bit of a thrift store junkie and frequent the Goodwills and other thrift stores from Durham to Greensboro. This store is by far one of the best, both in pricing and selection. They seem to have a pretty good turnover in stock. I mainly shop for books and I usually leave with a couple of boxes full. They always seem to have good specials running. The clerks have also been consistently pleasant to me. I like the fact that when I shop here, I know that my money is going to a very good cause.

This place seems very proud of their inventory, which seem like the yard sale leftover unwanted.
The clothes prices are OK, but, at least in the men’s Dept., it’s mostly unfashionable or worn out clothing.
I tried very hard to like the place: I frequent thrift stores for clothes, furniture etc., and I live 3 min away. Never had a good overall experience there.

Good cause, but bad store.

I’ve concluded that Durham Rescue Mission is the BEST thrift store in Durham. The store is huge and has everything you can imagine. I am currently 9 months pregnant and went in to find a comfortable spring dress that can accommodate my big belly, and I left with 4 dresses (each $ 5.99) and 1 long skirt (for $ 3.50)!! The dresses are actually in great condition, really cute, and I could keep wearing them even after the baby comes :)
The best part of shopping here, is finding some lightly used, good brand clothing! Three of the dresses I bought for instance were Ann Taylor Loft, Banana Republic and Mossimo (like Target carries). They looked like they’d never even been worn! The store itself is clean, lots of fitting rooms, and the staff is really friendly.
When I was checking out, the cashier also mentioned that they actually have a maternity section too — the store is so big I hadn’t even noticed. Pants are tricky to shop for, but tops and dresses are easy to browse through. I will definitely be returning in the future. Pregnant or not, it’s a great place to find cute clothes for super cheap!

Love this place! They are the reason I got into thrift stores! The place is huge and I have found some amazing things at a great price.
Half of the staff is really friendly and willing to help and the other half ignore you and look miserable to be there. Usually doesn’t effect my experience though.
They usually have 25% coupons in your mail and they will give you coupons when you checkout. Take advantage!

I absolutely LOVE this thrift store. It is the biggest one I have ever been to and they have a lot of good items. Everything is well organized by size and color which is a major plus!
The blazers are very inexpensive, and stylish I may add. I have purchase 8 blazers which I plan on wearing to work. I have gotten brands from Old Navy, New York and Company, Forever 21, Banana Republic, and so much more! Highly recommended for anyone who is looking for some trendy gently used items for cheap!

I hate to say it, but this is not a great thrift store if you’re looking for a trendy treasure.
There are LOTS of clothes, organized very well by size. The down side is that there are many, many out-​of-​date items and items of poor quality (e.g., worn and faded). You will really have to dig before you can find anything modern or fashionable. I think I spent about 2 hours in here looking through all the stuff.

I watched this place like a hawk from the moment the sign went up to the second the marquee read, «Open for business.» I finally made it in one Saturday afternoon, and the second I pulled into the packed parking lot, I cursed myself for not going on a weekday. I ended up parking over near the auto diagnostic place, and braced myself for the mayhem of a thrift store on a Saturday.
But as it turns out, this place huge, and even though the parking lot was full, there was plenty of breathing room in the store itself! (With one exception: the housewares section in the corner. They have plenty of room to space out those aisles, but of course we have to squeeze by and hope we don’t knock down a milk glass candlestick.)
Despite being so new, there’s a lot of stuff! And the prices are great. I ended up scoring some Dansko clogs for $ 2.99 and a cute top on the 99-​cent «damaged» rack (though it looked fine to me)! And the check-​out process was really smooth, with a cashier and a bagger.
It’s a great Durham thrifting option in a great location.
