The White Dragon Tea Room and Gallery provides World Tea Experiences. We purvey artisanal teas from China, Japan, Sri Lanka, Assam, Darjeeling and Africa. We celebrate the presentation of tea from all the major tea cultures in the world including the Japanese outer form of the Way of Tea, Gongfu from China, Moroccan Tea Parties and the cult of Pu-erh. We purvey tea and present hand brewed tea for customers to enjoy in the tea room. We also present, in order to support clay artists, hand made vessels that relate to the celebration and imbibing of tea such as bowls, plates, tea pots and vases. We carry a full line of tea accessories including varied pots (glass and Xying) as well as cups and glasses from which to enjoy tea. Featured in the tea room are Asian antique scrolls and vessels related to tea.
History
Established in 2011.
The White Dragon Tea Room and Gallery was started to celebrate the world of tea. We began in May/June 2011 and have had an exceptional reception from our community and visitors to Durango. The purpose of the tea room is to offer world class teas in an ambience that recreates esoteric, tea rooms of old in which tea is celebrated for the magic substance which it is. We create an atmosphere (media free) of peace and quiet where a visitor can leave the world on the other side of the Noren (Japanese door curtain) and deeply relax in order to be renewed through the celebration of tea and conversation. The tea room features Asian antiques for sale from my private collection.
Meet the Business Owner
Michael T.
Business Owner
I lived as a monk in Japan, drank sencha and matcha and studied their presentation and the vessels used in the way of tea. I have visited China and been trained in the Chinese preparation of tea. My son introduced me to world class Chinese teas twenty years ago. I had an epiphany when he served me my first cup of Dragon Well at the Slanted Door where he was working as a waiter. I am in charge of tea purchases. I buy teas from a purveyor who vets all teas they sell and visits China regularly. They purchased the company from David Lee Hoffman, who created the boutique tea industry in China. I also am in charge of acquiring the finest Japanese teas including Gyokuro and the best matchas available. We celebrate each guest whether they have come to purchase tea or to drink it in the tea room My committment is to pursuing aditional knowledge and presence. I have been invited to speak at the World Tea Expo this year and I offer classes at Fort Lewis College in Durango.
