Von Maur

Love this store. They have an awesome women’s lounge where there are big clean bathrooms as well as a mothers area where you can feed and change your baby. I really appreciate touches like this at a store.

Very disappointing experience. I got the classic «bait and switch». Long story short, special ordered a suit so I could get right sized jacket and slacks and waited 6 weeks for arrival. When it came in, it was same off-​the-​shelf size as in the store and then they wanted to completely alter it or sell me something else. Said I misunderstood and they never sell customized suits. Don’t waste time here as you can get better quality and lower prices at Brooks Bros next door.
This chain is supposedly known for its customer service but this store obviously didn’t get the memo. They made no attempt to satisfy the situation.

I like this store. It is unique to Atlanta, not as popular (less foot traffic) and it has a nice family feel to it. The customer service is usually pretty solid. There is usually someone playing the piano on the 1^st floor. Most department stores have done away with that but that is a nice feature and really sets the tone and atmosphere to want to stay and shop.
They usually have a good sale here too. I immediately head for the shoes. There is a clearance rack and I have found some winners on it for as low as $ 50 for some nice shoes. Throughout the men’s department there are «sale» racks. You have to dig just a bit to find something you like for a good price, but I usually always find something.
It is just something about this store I like. It has a personal feel to it versus than the giant box department store on every corner. It is family owned and operated as well. I am sure that has a lot to do with it. If you have not been here, it is located on the backside of Perimeter Mall near Nordstrom’s and Brooks Brothers. Go check it out but leave me a nice pair of shoes. Size 12.

Very impressed with their customer service. The sales associate was helpful and available without being intrusive or pushy. There was a slight flaw in the garment, which they noticed and pointed out, and had it fixed two full days earlier than promised. This was my first time shopping at Von Maur and I will definitely be back again.

Ya know, for a place to rant and rave about customer service, I really didn’t get any great service at all here… Matter of fact, I almost didn’t get any.
I will start by saying I’m pretty impressed with their juniors department. I grabbed quite a few items (roughly 7 – 8 items and a few accessories) from there with the hopes of one of their sales associates to at least say hello. They didn’t, and I’m not the kind of person to give my sale to someone who won’t even look at me or say anything to me, so I made my rounds on the second floor looking at each department, still no greeting since I’ve even walked in the store. Move on to the third floor, items still in hand, go through around half of the departments and the associates are all standing around gossiping. Cool. Backtracked, went downstairs, and was looking at the jewelry department and was FINALLY acknowledged by an associate. She bent down, got pretty close to my face and asked if I needed help… Kinda weird. Anyway. Made my way to the contemporary department and wasn’t too impressed with their premium denim section. Had a lot of Miss Me jeans and apparel which isn’t my taste; and not a lot of Paige’s, Hudsons, AG, etc. They did however have BB Dakota, Free People, French Connection, and Sam Edelman apparel, which was great. A sales person immediately greeted me and started my fitting room while I continued to browse. She offered her honest opinion on the items I asked about and was all around a good sales person.
I will come back to shop at Von Maur, but heads up, if you’re trying to become a well known department store that works on commission, you might want to train your employees a little better. I was incredibly close to either setting all of my items down or asking for the manager in charge until the young girl in the contemporary department kindly asked to assist me.

Update:
The sales ladies know my mother by name here. They remember what she was looking for and called to see how she enjoyed her purchase and then sent her a card thanking her for coming in. I have never encountered customer service like this anywhere else. If more sales people like them pointed me in the directions of the clearance rack, I’d probably spend more money. Tell me who is in charge of employee training, because they are doing an incredible job. I mean where else can I get checked out and them carefully fold my purchases and wrap them in tissue paper. It is a real treat shopping at this store. Next step is to drag my mom in for a bra fitting. Again, the sales people are amazing. Sales are great, and the merchandise isn’t overly stodgy or trendy. Von Maur has a great mix of classic and trend pieces, high end and affordable. And yes, the bathrooms are amazing.

As a former employee of Von Maur for I year and 3 month, the store is a nice store to look at on the surface and impressive in it’s looks, but if you are considering working there, there are better retail stores to work where employees are treat like humans with a life outside Von Maur. Their scheduling is off the chart and it is impossible to get a day off without a three weeks notice even for a doctor’s appointment. Give me a break. The store is from the Midwest and its operations and mode of operation is 20 years behind in technology. There has been a tremendous turn over in sales associates and managers during the first year since opening and that should tell one there is a management problem or employees are treated unfairly. As a sales associate, you are require to dust fixtures in your department, help unload a semi in your dress suit when stock is received in the morning, and there is no excuse for a tardy there even the Atlanta traffic is not considered. If Tone are one minute late from lunch, it is a tardy. The store has a no return policy and no questions asked and customers are always returning merchandise and it is put back out on the floor to sell and the customer is sometimes buying used merchandise. I am not just a disgruntled employee, but you should seriously consider other jobs before you accept a position there. There is very little chance for advancement there unless you are what the employees there refer to a «Von Maur» material and you have to act a certain way and not be expressive and act like a robot or a Von Maur Clone.

Von Maur is a great store. Lots of really cool clothes and things of that nature. They also have a live pianist. It is also a great place to work. Ah ha! I’m an employee. All of the part time/​full time employees seem to be very happy. HOWEVER… I play piano at Von Maur and Von Maur pianists are classified as «extras» even though we clock in and out, work a schedule and receive a W2 form. As an extra, we are not given the benefits of vacation pay, holiday pay, bereavement pay, etc. To classify us differently is legal in Georgia (a «right to work» state). Legal, yes… but, ethical? Two weeks ago, my brother passed away. I was told by one manager that I would receive bereavement pay, but a few days later, when checking to see if I needed to fill out any paperwork I was told that only part time/​full time employees receive bereavement pay. We can all make our own conclusions as to the ethics of the situation, but I will leave you with this thought. I used to play piano at NORDSTROM until Nordstrom eliminated the piano music from their stores. While employed at Nordstrom, I was considered part time and thus had the benefits of vacation pay, holiday pay, and bereavement pay (both my mother and father passed away while I was employed at Nordstrom.

I’m a big fan of Von Maur because it reminds me of a bygone era of shopping. Yes– it is slightly overdone in the decorating, but honestly, I love it. I love the piano player. I love the fire places. I love the amazing bathrooms. Most of all– I LOVE the customer service. I have gone into Von Maur and purchased 1 pair of clearance earrings that cost $ 12 and was treated as though I just purchased a new Chanel handbag. You are treated with dignity, respect and professionalism. I enjoy the extra mile the employees go to make you feel appreciated and important. Here is my breakdown by departments:
Jewelry– fantastic! They have a wonderful, varied inventory with everything from Betsy Johnson to Kate Spade to Marc Jacobs to Swarovski. They have a large clearance section with incredible deals.
Accessories– yes, they have a huge accessory section unlike anything I’ve seen at other stores. They have a massive stock of socks, scarves, hats, umbrellas, hair goods, formal hats, gloves, glasses.
Purses– wow! Selection!!! They have a fantastic stock ranging from affordable Fossil to Chloe!
Dresses– one of the best and year round dress section. I’ve always had luck finding dresses regardless of the occasion at this store. The ladies that work in this section are more than helpful and have a great eye. This section also has a great clearance area with awesome sale prices!
Kids/​JRS– I don’t shop this section but it seems to be the same size as other department stores.
Mens– Wonderful suit/​dressy section and selection in casual clothes. My husband loves the brand ‘Penguin’ and they always have a nice selection of it at this store.
Ladies– I don’t personally buy my clothing here but they have a nice selection.
Shoes– epic! They have a great ladies shoe section with an awesome year round clearance room.
Housewares/​gift– yes, they actually still have one of those old school gifting sections. I’ve gotten some amazing and unique holiday decorations in this section!
Lingerie– one of my favorite sections in the store. The selection and size range is incredibly impressive. The ladies that work in this section are so eager to help and are kind and just so wonderful!
Gift wrap– ANYTHING you buy in the store they will gift wrap for FREE AND ship for FREE if you want to!!! Last Christmas I purchased several gifts from here had them wrapped for free and mailed to all my family members FOR FREE! Seriously, this place rocks!
I really love this store and applaud them on creating such a wonderful shopping environment. As a customer, I feel comfortable and so appreciated. Thanks!

I may update this review in the future, but as my first experience, I just wasn’t impressed.
The fashion world considers me to be plus size, I guess its because I’m tall and I’m thick, but what I saw in this stores Women’s World was frumpy with a capital frump. Everything was floral printed and wide legged. That is not my style.
I did find some good deals in the clearance room for shoes, but it was torn apart and of the 4 shoes that I picked up under the size 10 sign, only of them actually was. A pair of blue Cole Hann Nike Air pumps for $ 48 is as good of a deal as you are ever going to find, but alas, there was no one to assist me, so I put said shoe back after 5 minutes and went to find a ladies room.
There are two, one right outside the children’s department on the 3^rd floor and the person that showed me to that one said the other women lounge is near handbags on the first floor.
Nicest mall bathroom I have ever encountered, clean, spacious and smells nice.
I did walk the entire store, there weren’t any great prices in any other department than the above mentioned shoe clearance area.
Took the place of Bloomingdale. I’m not sure if its a good replacement or not, but I could see myself going back for accessories and shoes.
As I exited the store the pianist was playing, «I Did It My Way». I agree.

Ditto what Kathleen said about how this store strikes you– felt like I was shopping in some scene in «Heathers.» And those piiiiink dressing rooms (and I love pink, but wowza)!
I have to go to an event tonight that’s an «all white winter» theme and I pretty much don’t own anything white. Hence, the mall. Emily R and I had lunch near Perimeter Mall and she suggested Von Maur because they typically have a lot of sales and/​or good prices in general– I mean, if you’re gonna buy something you might expect to wear minimally, the last thing you want to do is spend much.
I tried on a few dresses, and was fairly impressed at some of the labels they had that I usually see at the schmancier department stores and boutiques, including Trina Turk and Tahari. Prices were very good too and indeed there were sales racks with some good deals if you found the right thing. Unfortunately, most of what caught my eye was anything that wasn’t white, so no dice.
Pretty strong accessories collection, including purses — very large Coach collection if you like that– and while not as extensive or high end as Nordstrom’s or Saks, this is not a bad spot if you’re looking for that kind of gift item.
I don’t make it over here that often but a cruise through Von Maur will likely end up in my future mall visits.

A few of us stumbled in here after a meet — actually, the boys needed to find a place to relieve themselves. *Face palm* After 5 – 10 minutes, the boys returned and couldn’t stop telling me how awesome and fancy the restrooms are lol. In their absence, I had entertained myself by checking out the store and found that I was in LOVE with so many pretty things!
I found my perfect fitting pair of boots for my skinny legs, ironic because this season has been unusually warm. Oh Cole Haan, how I love your integrated Nike Air insoles that make me feel as if I’m walking on clouds. And there were lots of fun accessories to play with, like the derby-​style hats and surprisingly nice UGG gloves. They carry a lot of higher end brands that most other department stores do not carry like one of my favorites — Alexander McQueen.
There weren’t many other customers in the store, so whenever we walked by, an employee would come talk to us, ask if we needed anything, made jokes, and was just overall VERY informative and nice.

Not gonna lie, this store looks straight out of the late 80s/​early 90s. Bright pink carpet, pot pourri in the «ladies lounge» and strictly single sex dressing rooms. Then they set up little vignettes throughout the store so you can see what that dress would look like with those shoes, and it’s not in a way that I would ever put together. We’re talking black shoes with a yellow dress, people.
But you know what? Their inventory is cute. I found brands here that I hadn’t seen elsewhere, and almost everything was well priced. Service was super friendly as they seemed to have a ton of staff, and they had the right mix of lust-​worthy (Badgley Mischka) mixed with the totally reasonable.

I can’t say I’m a fan. It’s a very nice store… nice clothes, nice everything, even a live pianist for entertainment. Cool place to just browse around and check things out.
