The Dunsmuir Lodge

I stayed here two nights and was satisfied. My room was clean and had an oversized bed. There was a hair on my towel however, but I will overlook that. The room had a new T.V. And refrigerator, but a very old coffee pot and bathroom (70s shower tiles) NOTE: Sound goes through the walls very easily.

On this long summer day night had come as expected, rather late. However what had come with it was fatigue. Now normally I work graves and can easy push though a night of driving. This night however was not the case.
The goal was the Oregon border, but the nine lit winding roads of I-​5 made said «cool story bra. Not happening». The Dunsmuir exit came, so I went.
I definitely judged this book by its cover. The old lady and joked of Norman Bates watching us shower before he did us in.
It was close to 11, and the office was shut. We rang for service and the clerk came from his room. The only room open was a king bed at $ 107. Frankly I didn’t care.
The room was large, knotty pine was everywhere. The giant bed was soft, the shower newly tiled. Hell I wanted was a few hours down. I got more.
Admittedly not many TV channels, but really guy, TV. You got a cell phone, and there wifi.
It’s not the kind of motel to lock yourself away in your room. Unless for some crazy sexcapade.
Anyways, yeah no Norman Bates, no bugs. Clean, friendly staff. I’d stay again.

This used to be the best place to stay in Dunsmuir. We stayed here this weekend and it was just OK. Window screens were open and broken, the sink did not drain, the vanity had been bent down, there was mold in the bathroom on the ceiling, and the bed linens were not as clean as in the past. The couple that used to own this place kept it spotless. It’s not clear if there is a new owner, but it is not up to the same standard. In addition, lots of smokers and ash trays around. It’s just wonderful to go to the great outdoors and have someone smoking and fouling up the air. No longer the gem it used to be.

My best friend is from Nebraska and loves this place. She took me up there for a few days to waterfall hunt and so we stayed here. The staff is amazing, the rooms are clean and cute, and they are pet friendly. I would give this place ten stars if there was an option for it. Eric and Bill were so helpful and hardworking. This is now going to be the place we will meet once a year for a girls’ trip. This place is not just a place to crash, it is a wonderful and homey place to be. I already miss the lodge and the staff. Patches and Pebbles are the two cute and friendly doggies that live there. It feels like my home away from home. Thank you Dunsmuir Lodge for all the memories my friend and I have from staying here!

This space met our needs for sure. We had come up to check out a wedding venue, and they suggested we stay here.
We were checked in quickly, and treated to a clean, large room with a large bed, in the perfect location for stuffing ourselves silly at two of Dunsmuir’s eating establishments.
The room stayed nice and toasty, but it was due to the noisy heating/​cooling unit more than our little fireplace, which I really don’t think did much.
The meadow out back is so, so lovely, I wanted to roll down the hill and then twirl around a la Sound of Music, but I refrained.
The only thing we didn’t dig was the black widow sharing our room, but that was handled quickly enough, after some girlish squealing (from both of us).
Loved the fridge in the room too, so you can fill it with leftovers from aforementioned eateries.
As others have said — it’s nothing fancy, but it was reasonably priced, pet friendly, and just what we expected.

Found this place using tripadvisor on our way back down towards the napa valley. It’s very charming and quaint. A room with a king bed came to $ 75. It’s clean and comfortable. You can’t go wrong. The room has a small coffee maker, 20″ tv, small table and chairs. The log bed is fun. It’s very convenient and right off the highway. Probably less than 4 minutes into the downtown area.

Nice hotel in cute small town. The rooms are small but clean and inexpensive. People who own it are nice. Nothing fancy but great place to stay.

This is an family-​owned place. Clean. Friendly. Charming log beds. Pets allowed. No noise from I-​5. Lovely grounds adjacent the river with a big lawn good for picnics. It’s a welcome difference from the predictable chain motels.
After hours sitting in the car, I welcome the 1 mile walk into town for my meals.
I’m a repeat customer and always stay here when I’m on the I-​5.

Clean rooms. Super nice and helpful hosts. Lots of places for the kids to run around. Close to town and striking distance to mt. Shasta. Looked to be the best place to stay in Dunsmuir. Recommend.

My car broke down in the mountains en-​route to Oregon, and I was towed here as a pet-​friendly place to crash for the night. From minute one I knew I was in the right place – was checked in by Bill, who was kind and funny and had a cute dog, and then Eric, one of the owners, took the time to help me out with my car and give me all the information I needed about this (tiny & charming) town. The grounds of the hotel are beautiful, with a big meadow for my active dog to run, and the room itself was small but very nice, with rustic and tasteful furniture, a comfy bed with a home-​made quilt, and a shower with GREAT water pressure. Couldn’t break down in a nicer place, and next time I may make this a destination. Thanks guys!

I booked this lodge on-​line after reading reviews from two sites. It lived up to its billing.
The front desk person was very friendly and helpful. He told us the A/​C didn’t work in the room we booked so gave us a free upgrade. The bed and pillows were very comfortable. The WIFI was a decent speed. The setting is beautiful. It is pet friendly.
It is evident that management is bending over backwards to encourage new customers. I have stayed in Dunsmuir about a dozen times over the years. This was my best experience with lodging there. I will definitely stay here again on future trips through the area.

We stayed here on our way from SF to WA state and I believe this is right by Mt. Shasta. I had to praised the owner for being so nice and patient when we ring the bell at 1am. We got the last two rooms and it was clean, quiet and comfy.
Yes, this is probably closer to a motel than a lodge as it doesn’t have any amenaties but I appreicate the upgrades the new owner had putt in and I would defintely return if I ever return to this area.

Back in the 1940’s when Gauchos were (short) men and women knew their place ;) (ouch, hey, lay off, didn’t you see the smiley?) a couple would tie up their horses at the El Rancho Motel, sleep in beds the size of apple crates and hold square dances in the bathroom. These days, however, super-​sized Nordamericanos park their Escalades at the renamed Dunsmuir Lodge, duck to get through the door and wonder why they can barely squeeze into the bathroom. Nevertheless, this is a very nice «lodge» (meaning a place to stay) so please support small local hard-​working businesses and give them your credit card.
Our unit #6 was very nicely re-​decorated and crammed with all the necessary amenities: table, desk, 2 chairs, bureau, TV, fridge, ceiling fan-​light, closet, night lamps with real shades, Mr Coffee and a log bed so big that my mate and I had to call each other on cell phones to arrange to meet in the middle when we wanted to «snuggle.» I could not locate the Bible.
More plusses include a steep back forty where, if your kids roll down this hill and onto a passing Amtrak train, the back seat of the Escalade will be much quieter for the rest of the trip. I like the box of rags by the Coke machine with the sign «Use these clothes to wipe down your Rottweiler or greasy Harley instead of the white towels in your room or you’ll be charged.» Oops, better stop polishing the Caddy.

Decent price, however no AAA discount. boo. Rooms are charming. Loved the well maintained old tile in the shower. Big comfy bed. We would stay again should we find ourselves traveling through the area.

I always want to start with the good! So here it is:

The bad:
This is NOT a «lodge»!! This is a motel! Tiny rooms, TINY bathrooms, with no where to set your things anywhere in the bathroom. The property has no paths to the river (kids were bummed about this), you actually have to drive down to the river front park. For what you get we felt it was not worth the price. You can stay elsewhere and at least get a breakfast!

Its the best location for a lodge. We stayed only for a night. Owner for sweet.
I dint link the bathroom. The washbasin had lot of cracks and the flush wouldnt work properly. (Specifically talking about Room # 7).I also heard my friend complain about her room too.(Room# 19)

The Dunsmuir lodge is simple, rustic, and very comfortable. Our bed was huge, solid, and very wonderful for sleeping. The room is a reasonable size and the materials in the room are high quality (furniture, tile). The owners are friendly and the location highly convenient to travel on I-​5. The price is quite reasonable and thank goodness the charm is real.

This is my midway stop every time when I’m heading up to Portland. The first time I stumbled onto this place was due to needing a place to rest and ever since I book this as my go to place when traveling north. The staff is super friendly, clean rooms, great price, dog friendly, you almost always end up throwing down a cold one with the fellow travelers that are staying at this lodge as well. I now make this place more of a part of the vacation rather than just a place to catch some sleep.

Conveniently located just off I-​5 and 7 miles from the town of Mt. Shasta, this is an amazing two star inn. OTI is a non-​smoking facility with very nice front desk and clean rooms. The linen were well kept and clean. The hedge creek falls are at a walking distance from the inn and mossbrae falls are also less than a mile away. There is a chevron gas station that has a subway within a mile if you take a left on Dunsmuir Ave under the I-​5 bridge.
Last but not the least, there is Penny’s diner as part of the property. This 24hr diner serves excellent meals and worth the money. Price wise this place is not cheap. Expect to pay $ 100 per room per night and $ 12per person per meal. Still, I am a fan and will definitely come back again.
