BEST WESTERN PLUS Scranton East Hotel & Convention Center

Needs a little more updating. Funny smell from carpet on the main lobby. Bathroom on the double bed rooms are small. But the pool area and jacuzzi are great. Nice gym and plenty of parking. Its a nice place to get away for a few days. BTW malls are just 10 min away.

Where to begin? First, they booked me into a smoking room (I don’t smoke) and told me at checkin that they did not have any other rooms available. I doubt that this was true but it was well after midnight (thank you American Airlines) and I was exhausted.
The toilet was stopped up. I had to call for someone to fix that. There were not nearly enough pillows on the bed. I had to request more. The radio in the room did not work. The maid service was good but they often forgot things. On the second morning, when I stepped into the shower, the handle for the water came off in my hand.
The room fee comes with breakfast. It’s not gourmet but it will get your day started. And since this place is in Dunmore, there aren’t a lot of options nearby. Nothing that’s less than a mile away.
All-​in-​all, not worth the money I spent.

The staff is fantastic!!! Great hot breakfast with waffles, pancakes, eggs, bacon, and fresh home fries!!! Beds are super comfy and live music in the bar each weekend.

Be very careful with this hotel. They made unauthorized transaction ($ 350) from my account. Best western is on my black list now!!!

My friends and I celebrated my birthday in the area and stayed here. The hotel was so so friendly and accommodating. We enjoyed the live entertainment in the hotel with The Girlz band. They were great! We had so much fun with them the celebration lasted a little longer after closing. It was perfect cause we didn’t need to leave after a long day to have a good time. Complimentary breakfast for everyone and one drink for the bday girl. One draw was the chlorine smell from the pool was very strong. The rooms were cleaned, we had to move cause we had a puppy and had a miss understanding booking so they just moved us to another and it was fine.

Well, it’s the Best Western. But, I am not sure there’s much that is ‘best’ about it.
It’s like an indoor motel — with the pool in the middle, and all of the hotel room doors opening onto open hallways overlooking the center.
Not super clean, but it’s okay. I wish they had more blankets on the bed, as it’s quite cold and the covering is basically two sheets.
Free breakfast though, so that’s a plus. though they boil the scrambled eggs, ick.

I booked this Hotel through Priceline, and and the booking was Gerry deceiving. There is no way this place is 3 stars, and I can’t imagine anyone would willing stay in this place a second time. I paid $ 55 for this place and that was way too much. The room is old and musty and the sheets seem dirty and old. The place just gives off a creepy feeling.

This is not the Four Seasons, but if you have kids and are looking for a bargain which is better than a motel, this is the place for you.
I am not positive, but it seem like it was a motel where the doors open to the outdoors, and somewhere they enclosed the whole thing. Now, the doors open to a giant interior, and the pool is in the center. There is a big lobby, restaurant, and seating areas. All of that makes it great for kids to have fun, and enjoy themselves OUTSIDE of your room.
The pool is big, has a separate giant hot tub and seating around it. Unlike many of the indoor hotel pools we have been to, the area around the pool is very comfortable – a big deal if you need to watch kids for a few hours.
There is a gym and bathrooms downstairs.
So, for $ 72 per night we got a decent room, pool for the kids, room for them to roam and a genuine hot breakfast. Quite a bargain.
The room itself is very basic. It had a fridge, which was nice. The mattress was a little worn, and sagged a bit. But it was not uncomfortable. The location is literally right off the freeway, which was important to us.
The WiFi was a little overloaded a points, but the hotel seemed to be full so that was to be expected given how these things work.
We were very pleased.

For the price (currently about 75/​night) it isn’t terrible, but right now it’s the dead of winter. The hotel is old, and it definitely shows in some places. For some reason there are children everywhere (confusing to me since it isn’t a vacation time at all), but that’s not the hotel’s fault. What is pretty irritating is that the pool is centrally located, with a majority of the rooms overlooking it, as the children’s constant screaming echoes throughout. We don’t have a room overlooking the pool, luckily.
We dined at the hotel’s restaurant which we were already warned about via online reviews, so we were expecting it to be bad (my parents were tired and didn’t feel like driving elsewhere). Unsurprisingly, it was pretty bad, but it wasn’t the absolute worst dining experience I’ve ever had. Nearly the entire place was empty, but we had to wait 25 minutes for a single bowl of soup to come out. Another 10 minutes passed until we got the rest of our food. However, we were only given one napkin and one set of utensils. Overall, our food was extremely mediocre and tasted like something out of the frozen food section.
Oh, and the hotel wifi is almost non existent. Yes, there is wifi, technically, but it really only works in the lobby. I am currently stuck using the data on my phone, which I don’t mind that much, but if you need to use your laptop you may be out of luck.
Aside from the bad stuff, here are some pros:
There is plenty of hot water
There are plenty of towels
The bedding appears to be clean
There are adequate amenities in the room

Do not saty here. I booked a room for 2 nights. When we check in everthing was fine. Then it started, kids runniong upo and down the halls parents drinking by the pool blasting music. It was crazy. I went to the front desk and asked to speak to the manager. I was told the manager wouldn’t come down to see me but I could talk to her on the phone. I said no I would like to talk to her in person not over the phone. I was tneh informed «well shes not comming down» so i will help you. IO said no I want to speak to a manager this place is nuts. I was told yeah its the parties we have booked for our pool area. Seems they rent out the pool area for parties (that didn’t show up in the online add). i asked if we left could we get our money back and go some place else. The answer «I can ask my manager tomorrow». What should I do about tonight? Not our problem. So I figured I call Best Western customer service, nope they are closed on Saturday at 5 and all day Sunday. There is more to tell but it’s not worth my time. If you stay here ask to speak to Rhonda and see if she will come out of the office.
Best Western customer care just offered me a $ 50 gift card to use in any of thier hotels. I used more than that in gas trying to find a hotel at 1 in the morning. They are going to send my complaint back to the hotel so it can be looked into. So the manager that refused to help people is going to look over my complaint about her not helping me. Wow I give them credit they really make you feel Like customers are the most important thing to them. Imagine if they didn’t like the customer I would have to give them a $ 50 gift card. STAY AWAY!!! I couldn’t make this stuff up if I tried.

Unilocal needs to update the name. It’s now the «Scranton East Hotel». Great value For money! Yes place is somewhat aged but it’s very clean and staff was very obliging. Had best hot breakfast of all hotels we stayed at over past year. We typically stay at Hampton Inns but very much enjoyed our stay here, especially price.
While just off hwy 81 place is NOT GPS friendly. Call them for an alternative address to GPS ph# 570.343.4771.

Typical hotel. The only reason I want to comment is because some of their descriptions on web sites are a bit misleading. It’s not bad… just «normal».

I am going to post a completely objective review and you can decide whether or not if you would stay here.
My girlfriend booked a room on
and asked for a non-​smoking room. We got to the room and the key didn’t work. We went to the front desk and we were told that our card was programmed for another room. Honest mistake, except that the girl at the front desk admitted that she knew this as were walking away. We were unsure why she didn’t say anything and why she would admit that to us. We finally get into the room and were hit with the unmistakable smell of cigarette smoke. We went back to the front desk and we were told that because we booked with
, we are not guaranteed a non-​smoking room. The room had a no-​smoking sign on the door, but we were told that all of the rooms have that on the door. We asked for a discount on the room but was told that there was nothing that they could do. The guy at the front desk gave us a can of Glade to spray in the room.
After setting in, we decided to workout in the fitness room. The odor in there was pretty bad and the equipment was outdated and the pulley system on the universal machine was missing. We opted to go for a swim instead. The pool was very cold.
The breakfast buffet was mediocre, but not bad. The coffee was drinkable but a little watery. The woman working the buffet checked our voucher and then asked us a second time after we sat down, but in an accusatory way.
I was not very happy with my overall experience at this hotel.

Stayed at the Holiday Inn in Dunmore one night because my usual hotel in the area was booked and I was stuck.
The hotel is really two different hotels. There is a decent looking hotel behind the front desk and attached to the hotel. Behind that hotel there is a run down motel style series of rooms. I was put in one of these rooms and it was terrible. The room was dirty and the bathroom smelled of mildew. Had I not been stuck I would’ve walked right out and gone somewhere else.
I’d recommend trying to stay somewhere else if you’re looking for a room around Scranton. If you’re stuck with it like I was, demand the nice room. I wish you luck though, I’m an ICH Elite Member and they stuck me in the back.

Older hotel, I think they be remodeling soon. I feel it is slightly overpriced since you can find much newer hotels for the same price to less. The staff is average and the rooms are clean. The pool and Lobby are very nice

After days of searching for a decent hotel in the Pocono’s area, we decided to name our own price on Priceline («Price-​line-​né-​go-​tia-​tor!»). Out popped a confirmation for booking the Holiday Inn in Scranton-​East Dunmore. And looking at reviews on TripAdvisor, I immediately freaked out. The reviews were not very sexy at all. But, we were surprisingly pleased with the outcome.
The hotel was definitely not a new building and we walk in to the subtle smell and warmth of chlorine. Perplexed, we finally realize that the swimming pool and jacuzzi were right on the ground floor, with the rooms on the balconies overlooking the pool. Note: this is all indoors. I honestly didn’t mind the faint, musty smell of chlorine because it was such a convenience to jump in the pool/​jacuzzi just steps from our room.
Overall, our room was pretty large (for two people), clean and had enough amenities to keep us satisfied (TV, internet, fridge, microwave, coffee machine). The only thing I can complain about was that the bathroom was pretty cramped and with the toilet/​shower in one room, and the sink/​mirror in the other. (We are perplexed again).
The service was very good. Our requested toothbrush/​paste, wine glasses and ice were delivered to our rooms promptly. And the hotel offers a very nice continental breakfast (cereal, bagels, eggs, sausage, muffins, coffee, etc.)
