Strachan’s Ice Cream & Desserts is just like the old-​fashioned mom-​and-​pop ice cream shops of yesteryear. We touch memories from the past and create memories for the future. Everything in our shop is made in-​house! We have something for everyone –homemade ice cream, award-​winning carrot cake, creamy and delicious homemade fudge, sorbet, key lime pie topped with swiss merengue, key lime pie dipped in chocolate on a stick. coconut cake, homemade brownies, old-​fashioned banana splits and much more.

History

Established in 1999.

Susan had wanted a little ice cream shop for 20 years. Finally she & her husband Bill were in a situation where it was possible. They researched, went to school for ice cream making and bought a commercial ice cream maker. They practiced making ice cream in their garage. Susan had always loved baking so she brought her favorite recipes into the shop. The most popular being the carrot cake. At Strachan’s Ice Cream & Desserts we just love making people happy.

The ice cream is good and the flavor selection is diverse. Thumbs up on the option of ordering via walk-​up window or the inside seating area. The staff was relatively nice, but seemed flustered by the mid-​day rush. The wait was a little long, but only due to the popularity of the place given the time and the heat of this particular day.

Stopped in for ice cream tonight after dinner. The place smelled amazing the second we opened the door. I opted for a scoop of the carrot cake ice cream — it was unbelievable. The (big) chunks of real carrot cake were so moist & flavorful and the ice cream itself was delicious. I can’t wait to go back to try the cakes. Plus, the shop is cute & there are tables on the side to sit & enjoy your ice cream.

Where has this place been all my life? Now I will be the first to admit, I am not an ice cream person. I have never LOVED it. I ate it, super rarely craved it, but was never the kind of person that could eat a whole pint of it in 1 sitting.
Now I have to reevaluate my ice cream stance, because the ice cream here really is out of this world. Their chocolate ice cream was so silky smooth, and not too cold where you can’t enjoy it. Just a perfect temperature. You could taste the good quality chocolate that they used to make this. It doesn’t taste store bought where you just taste coldness and dairy. The ice cream here has a legitimate flavor.
Bf got the rum raisin ice cream, and i adored it. Maybe i’ll get that next time… like tomorrow maybe?

Strachan’s is delicious. I got the rum raisin ice cream with a waffle cone. Barely made it to the park before it was gone.

Great place for homemade ice cream! I love that they have an outdoor area where you can bring your pet, and order at the window. Plus, they give you a free doggy cone with your purchase, bonus!
Today I went with their old fashioned ice cream float. The wife ordered the carrot cake ice cream, and she was a fan. She somehow always orders better than me, so yeah, I had ice cream envy. The little one always goes with a scoop of chocolate ice cream, and she’s always happy. Our dog is always happy too!
It’s a great place to stop by and grab a cool treat if you’re in the area.

Eat the carrot cake! Screw the ice cream, it had nothing on that carrot cake!!! I got vanilla and tried the chocolate, the waffle cone was pretty good too, but TRY THE CARROT CAKE! I completely devoured it! I ate it once I got home and was so sad I only had one piece… 5.99 a slice yikes, but worth it!

I’ve been putting off writing this review because every time I think about this ice cream experience, the best I’ve ever had, I’m seized by the urge to get in my car immediately and go back.
This charming creamery occupies a corner in picturesque Dunedin. There’s a walk-​up window on the side with a few outdoor tables. Or you can go inside, where you’re greeted with freezers upon freezers full of homemade ice cream, pies, cakes, and the smell of fresh pressed waffle cones.
I got the pistachio almond ice cream in a waffle bowl. Pistachio. Almond. Ice cream. Read it again. There were pistachio chunks. My friend got the strawberry ice cream. Hers had fruit chunks. Chunks. Yes.
I’m going back for a milkshake. I might go now.

Stratchan’s has come thru for me on so many occasions when craving frozen dairy products, and I love them for it. However tonight, by all possible meanings of the word’s definition, I was basically FORCED to try their carrot cake. I bucked the system up until the first bite, at which time I realized Publix had nothing on these guys. In fact, nobody does… not even your grandma.
I hope they get the family feud straightened out because I don’t like the possible sale and closure of the best sweet treats around looming overhead.

The ice cream here is the best !!! The ice cream is fresh, delicious and yummie. I always get the cookie dough and cookies and cream and they are so good !!! I was get the carrot cake ice cream when it is available. I once by mistake got the almond joy ice cream and I love it, coconut isn’t a flavor I like but i was surprise on how much I like it. Oh and the scoops are pretty big ! Overall enjoy it and happy it’s close to where I live

Spent the day in Dunedin and while window shopping down Main Street we stumbled across this location of Strachen’s. My siblings and parents frequent the Palm Harbor location and rave about it. Specifically the yummy yummy sauce. Spotting this location we had to stop and try something.
The ice cream is homemade and they have a huge variety of flavors to choose from. They also have sundaes, floats, shakes and desserts. My daughter and I are chocolate ice cream fans so it was a kiddie cup of chocolate ice cream for her and a waffle bowl of chocolate ice cream for me… I went out on a limb and added the yummy yummy sauce I’ve heard so much about.
If you happen to have your 4 legged friend with you, which we did, with every purchase you can get a doggie ice cream cone. The dog loved his pooch sized cone which was plain vanilla soft serve on a small wafer cone.
The human ice cream was smooth and perfectly chocolate. The yummy yummy sauce was like caramel and butterscotch got married and the result was yummy yummy sauce. Both of us finished every last bite. Next time we’re on Main Street we know where to go for dessert!

On a March Friday evening, if a crowd of people lined up inside to the door and another crowd by the walk-​up window is any indication of the popularity of this place, then it must be a great place to get an ice cream. While waiting in line, I read the board with over 30 homemade ice creams in flavors that were unique to say the least. The staff of young people were nice courteous and not stressed by the amount of customers waiting. Not only had we an option of ice creams, we had options of cones and cups. The ice cream and sherbet we purchased were all delicious and we were able to enjoy them while seated on a bench outside the shop. It was certainly worth the wait and the cost. If one comes to Dunedin, they have to make a stop here.

There ice cream is excellent along with the waffle cone! Ive only had a few kinds but all three were delicious. My favorite is the cookies and crème. Place smells so good and all there other deserts look really good. Its a little pricey but worth it.

This is definitely a place to stop by every time I’m in the area. I haven’t been disappointed with any of the flavors!
I also love the side window available for a quick grab and if you have a pup a little pup cone for free!
The last visit I tried their strawberry lemonade sorbet and it was super refreshing. No artificial taste, just pure happiness.

The smell alone will draw you in — smells like someone is baking something fresh and delicious when you open the door. The ice cream flavors are excellent — my favorite is the vanilla chocolate chip which has many chips in it. A great place — we went to two different locations during our stay. Some of the scoopers are very friendly, others aren’t.

They have many different options from milkshakes, sherbet, pie, cake and brownies. Everything looked amazing. I had the pistachio almond ice cream and it was as good as it sounds. Will DEFINITELY be stopping back here every time I’m in the area.
It’s worth skipping a meal for.

Absolutely love their homemade ice cream and desserts!!! They have the BEST carrot cake and I just love their black cherry flavor of ice cream! DELICIOUS!!! They also have an outdoor window if you come on a bike and can’t go inside… and to top it off if your bring your dog they will give you a free doggy cone!!!

I have heard about this place. We wanted ice cream so bad, but guess what? They use the same scoops in all of their ice cream. My son has a peanut allergy. So even if they change the scoops, they have been using other scoopers in the different ice creams all day. Why they do not have one ice cream scooper per flavor or wash the scoopers after every scoop? I can’t answer that, so we bought one scoop for my younger son and left. Here is the thing, they have nut allergy warnings on all of their other products, but not on their ice cream freezer. So the ice cream might be good, but not worth my son’s life.

What do you do when you have a craving for a milkshake? I hit up Unilocal and this place was 700 feet away.
What’s not to love? They make the ice cream right on site… and it is delicious.
When you enter the restaurant the aroma is intoxicating — fresh ice cream, fresh cake, fresh fudge.
The Shake was perhaps one of the best of ever had. And also perhaps one of the most expensive. But hey, you pay for quality.
I stuck my straw into the almond Joy flavor thick cup and yes– it’s just like the candy bar.
I’ll be back!

Homemade ice cream is always yummy on a warm spring day. And they always have some of the best flavors out there.
Hand made waffle cones, dipped key lime pops, frozen bananas on sticks make for decadent treats. The main drawback is the line. There is –always– a line for this shop, and even with 3 people dishing out the goodness, it still seems to take forever.
***a note to those with nut allergies. Make them aware, so they can change their scoops. ***

We stopped at this quaint little ice cream shop after a day trip to Honeymoon Island State Park.
Must have the yum yum sauce! The ice cream was just as tasty but the yum yum sauce is what will keep me coming back!

Delicious little neighborhood ice cream parlor. They let you taste samples, and the two of us went with the strawberry as well as cookie dough, two days in a row!
Beware: «One scoop» is huge and at least three scoops. Probably a good thing when the ice cream is this good.

This nostalgic ice cream parlor is one of the reasons why I make the drive to Dunedin. This establishment encompasses the small town feeling that old school ice cream shops possessed. Not only was the staff friendly and inviting to our entire group of family and friends, they provided some of the best ice cream I’ve ever tasted. With fresh ingredients, and savory flavors like rum raisin and salted caramel, this shop is bound to impress.
If ice cream isn’t your cup of tea, they also serve pies and cookies. I didn’t try any of them but I will definitely be back for another taste. You should too!

But to expound… it’s delicious. Strachan’s is one of those places that just looks as inviting as possible, and then lives up to the hype.

When I was a kid my dad wanted to buy a Bresslers franchise, so for months we frequented the ice cream shop and sampled everything.
I had heard about this shop and was curios to try it and there it was before my eyes in the rain.
I ran into the stone seeking refuge from the rain. They have an outdoor eating area with tables and umbrellas and for a Wednesday night it was packed.
On my way in I saw a sign that said «Ask for a free sample of our fudge». On the left was a case with various types of fudge. I homed in on the dark chocolate with carmel and sea salt, truly delicious. The staff is not very excited to be working and did not even ask if I wanted to buy any fudge. On top of the counter was the last of the Pina Colada fudge wrapped in different sizes at very good prices.
I got 1 scoop of chocolate chip in a dish and they were either perturbed by the $ 20.00 dollar bill I gave them or the fact that I didn’t charge it, either way it was their problem to groan about. Appropriate customer service is lacking, but the products are solid and deliscious.
What’s a girl to do? I admit it, I love ice cream.
