We found this hole in the wall not to far from where we live so we had hoped it would be our new Mexican hotspot. If we weren’t in a time crunch we would have left after the chips and salsa-seriously. Another reviewer mentioned the salsa was like pizza sauce & they were spot on! I had a soggy chimichanga covered in a very sweet red sauce. Do yourself a favor if you like good Mexican go somewhere else.

Avoid this restaurant at all costs, even as a last resort. The cold unfriendly atmosphere is a tacky failed attempt at authentic Mexican, and when coupled with flatlined lazy staff and the downright bad food, you have all the makings of a rotten terrible experience. Chips were Walmart quality and straight out of a discount store bag, with cheap watery Heinz canned quality tomato sauce parading as salsa. The Patron and Don Julio margaritas ordered tasted like bland ether, and were likely a cheap quality liquor. The food came out far too quickly, smacking of pre made microwaved lazy man’s faire and I could have made better food by tossing together slop ingredients from a can and microwaving it. This food is depressed humanity and a thing to avoid. You will find more charm and better food at a gas station.

Excellent food and service. We had the 2 taco lunch special with refried beans and rice, mixed shredded beef with hard taco and the soft chicken celantro taco, very good! Tried the enchilada with Verde sauce too. The green sauce here is as good or better than some central CA Mexican places that know how to do the green sauce! Kudos to the chef :) Myra, our waitress was wonderful. I had never been here before, so was going back n forth on what to order. She was patient and helped me figure out the right combos. The warm homeade tortillas with salsa make it nice while you’re waiting for your order. Great friendly service, nice atmosphere, cool bar, Margarita specials and close to the Causeway after a day of play, excellent place. to stop. We ordered two plates to go too. Highly recommend this place. If you drive too fast you will miss it. Slow down and Enjoy!

My go to Mexican in the area. I just moved here and have only tried casa Tina(awful), so this place is awesome. Fast and friendly service and yummy guacamole. Have tried the steak wet burrito and hard tacos, yum.

My husband did not want to give this place a third chance due to the salsa that tastes like a bad jarred marinara sauce with a little juice but since it is just down the street I begged, how wrong I was to do so. I ordered a chimichanga with green sauce because I know they use a sweet red sauce that makes me feel ill but when it came to the table it was with the red sauce. The server said just pour green sauce on top and I said please stay while I try that, I took one taste of the sauce and said please may I have it as I ordered it. The server returned with the same plate of food but with half of the red sauce scraped off. Sad really, I mean who would not be able to see or taste that insanely sweet sauce that was running into the rice? We asked to see the owner, who was in the building because we saw him and the server said she would get him because he was at the bar. She returned five minutes or so later saying he was gone and she couldn’t fix our bill. Seriously? I didn’t even get a dinner! We wish great Mexican food was near our home but unless we go to downtown dunedin or clearwater we are not in luck. This place uses sub par food for sure and I mean what restaurant scrapes the mess up away that was wrong,(with a well who knows) and then attempts to serve the food. Gross!!! What other food injuries are they inflicting! Yucky yucky I hate to say it but my husband was certainly right about this place!

They are truly authentic Mexican food. The service is always quick and waitresses are very kind. The gorditas are my favorite(delicious) with the chimichanga and enchiladas close behind! Worth it! Yum!

We are from Chicago and stopped here for a quick lunch. The food was not very good at all. The rice tasted like Uncle Ben’s and they didn’t have guacamole??? Don’t waste your time here you are better off going to Taco Bell.

Waiting, waiting and more waiting. Not impressed by the food and disappointed by the service. The only positive thing about this place was the old musician’s impressive bird sounds while he sang. Friendly advice: If you want to keep customers, pay attention to their needs! WILLNOTBECOMINGBACK!

Mediocrely meh. A little lacking in flavor. Seems authentic, but just not the best authentic that I’ve had. For the Tampa region Taco Bus is much, much tastier for the dollar.

I find myself to be picky about Mexican food. I was dying for some sopes since I didn’t like the last place where I had them. Luckily enough, this place has that. Their sopes are super tasty. They thicker corn like open faced patty that they make it on. That’s what makes the sopes so good. It’s way thicker than a tostada & is a soft texture, not crunchy in case u want to know the difference. The steak on it was flavorful. There were three in a serving & good size. Yes, you must get it here. I also tried the huarache. It is served on a flat corn like tortilla, and it is huge. It’s not like a tortilla. Check out the pic for an idea. It was with shredded pork, cactus, green onions or scallions. Jalapeños were on the side. The cactus gave it good flavor. For those that may not handle spicy, you might think it is a little bit spicy. I didnt like the shredded pork. That seemed overcooked. Never had a huarache before & now I have I’m glad I had it here. The horchata was refreshing & not overly cinnamon. The flan was great and the consistency was good, not too mooshy. I’m picky about flan too because I compare it to my mom’s. This place is cool, has some mexican music playing. They have happy hour 2 – 7. I like it. Take out or dine in, whatever floats your boat. There’s one table to sit outside if you have your dog with you. It’s not shaded, but it is there.

I think this place is great! I grew up in the neighborhood across the street and we NEVER went. Noticed it has new owners so decided to check it out. This place is definitely authentic and everything I’ve had so far has been home made. First time we had the enchiladas both ways. She had the red sweet sauce, I had the spicy green sauce and it came with rice and beans. Both ways were excellent! Nicely flavored rice, big portions, meat was very tender and tasty. I started with a Beef Tongue taco(cause how often do you get a chance to try Beef Tongue?) and it was great! This time I started with a Beef Head taco and just like the last time, it was really really good! First time I’ve ever tried either. I had the Chile Verde that was chunks of all cooked, very tender pork. The green sauce goes well with the dish. Came with 3(homemade) tortilla shells. I mixed mine all up with the green hot sauce and rolled them into tortillas. Perfectly portioned and LOTS of flavor! She had two(homemade) chicken hard tacos with rice and beans. Very happy to give this place such a good rating. All the food is very authentic, not American’ized what so ever. Full liquor bar, friendly staff, and entertainment on the weekend’s. I dig the place!

This is my favorite Mexican joint in the Dunedin area. All of the food is exceptional, they are one of the few places with my favorite Mexican beer(Bohemia) in the bottle, and they have full liquor if that’s your thing. They make great margaritas and micheladas by the way. I love their food and the service is just as fantastic. Whether they are busy or slow, your food is cooked fresh to order and comes out hot and delicious. Their sopes, enchiladas, carne asada, chile releños, the list goes on… All delicious! They deliver breakfast lunch or dinner! Seriously check this place out of you are tired of the other non-authentic and heavily overpriced alternatives. The décor is rustic, you can feel comfortable wearing casual clothes, it’s very family friendly, and did I mention that the food is incredible? Wait until you see how good the prices are.

Their food is not the best Mexican food; however, it is pretty good. I like the fact that they are authentic and not Americanized. Every time I call in the place an order, the girl is extremely polite. I also like the fact that they deliver in a timely fashion. When my arrive arrives, it is always warm. Give this place a try if you’re in the mood for authentic Mexican food.

Don’t let the outside fool you. If you’re looking for authentic Mexican food, this is the place, right down to the handmade tortillas. Family asked where I wanted to go for Mother’s Day. I requested Mexican and found a small, local restaurant. Thankfully, I ignored some of the poor reviews after taking a peek inside. Smells good, looks good, and the restaurant was pretty much full with many clientele of Latino descent. In my opinion, that’s a good sign that the food is authentic and delicious. So I tried it. I’m so glad I did! We ordered the chicken quesadilla, burrito, and chicken fajitas. Everything was hot and tasty! I’ll definitely be back and I’m bringing friends.

Another 3.5 for friendly service and really good Huaraches– a house specialty topped with cactus Mexican cheese and meat of your choice! This is a huge portion and makes a good appetizer for two with Mexican beer at the Bar. Think casual authentic with a few key elements missing. Easy fixes for Americans looking for decent Queso and chips — don’t try the Queso. Salsa just okay. Fajitas were low on meat, another easy dish to pull off, not awful but definitely could be better. This place has a great location and huge potential to be a local favorite, the menu needs some help in execution. I would be a regular if more things were good. Make killer fajitas a good Margarita and suddenly your tables will fill up with families — easy — Queso, salsa and chips and we would be good to go! As is, go there for a huge Huarache and some Mexican beer!

Ugh… I hate these types of reviews. Why two stars… because it was open when everything else was not… that’s the best I can do. First, service was horrible… the server was actually talking to friends at another table rather than helping the three tables she was assigned. I finally stood at the register to pay and was there for five minutes before anyone came up. Others were right about the cheap chips and salsa baskets. We actually received 11 chips total. I love Mexican food and rarely have had bad stuff, but this qualifies. I had the nachos platter. But there were no chips that had not suffered the soggyness of the topping. The toppings were relatively flavorless and all tate canned. My wife had two crunchy beef tacos. The ground beef meat was pretty bad and the taco shells tasted like they came from a grocery store box. Nothing to summarize… just not a good experience.

I had to give it 3 stars because the food wasn’t terrible. I was disappointed that they didnt bring me more chips when my small basket was empty. The Salsa was very bland and not the least bit spicy. I had the 2 enchiladas which were just ok. I ordered 1 chicken and 1 shredded beef. They offered 3 sauces with them. 1. A red sweet sauce 2. A green spicy sauce or 3. A Ranchero sauce that’s mild. I have no idea what color it was because I couldnt see a sauce on my enchilada. I ordered one with the green sauce and one with Ranchero. They told me it would be an extra dollar since I wanted green on one and Ranchero on the other. Logically, that makes no sense but Ok. That’s what I wanted. The enchiladas were bland too. I was very disappointed. The rice and beans were good though. I’ll come again, maybe it was an off night?

Please, I beg you, do not eat here. While the low prices may seem enticing, the food itself is terrible. Not to mention we found bones in both of our dishes. I had a taco salad and my husband had chicken enchiladas. That is inexcusable. When we told the waitress, her exact response was«oh really». Nope, I brought them from home. No money was taken off, no sorry was said. Again inexcusable. Next, the place smells strange and service is subpar. The salsa tastes like marinara you find on a pizza. $ 1.00 is charged for a small thing of sour cream. All in all, we weren’t impressed, whatsoever. Save your money.

In the last 5 ½ years, we’ve visited this place under 3 different names! I’ve tasted the Fajitas & the Chili Rellenos. I know we’ve hit great to good in that time. So after driving around looking for an alternative Mexican place, we ended up trying Huarache’s again! The house dish is the«Huarache,» a large corn tortilla with refried black beans inside, smothered with red and green salsa, onion, cilantro and fresh Mexican cheese, your choice of meat(I had Marinated Pork.), cactus, and a deliciously grilled onion! OMGHEAVENLY! I can tell you that the different Authentic flavors coming from this dish complement each other! Based on this dish alone, I will come back very soon since it’s only 2 miles from my house on Alt 19! The service was great and more of a team effort. Yes, I’ve become more food wise and particular since I became a Unilocalie so I encourage y’all to try it out and share your take! Buen provecho
