Though I live in the area, I have only been in this place once. Admittedly, it was with a bunch of friends, on a night lacking regulars due to the weather. I didn’t have any of the experiences listed above.
The place seemed cozy, friendly, and easygoing. The bartender– Tara– was friendly and efficient.
The décor was standard comfortable bar/​local tavern.

I live in town and this place is as creepy as the Star Wars cantina.
I would rather walk one more block, uphill, to the Frontier Room. It’s clientele is still creepy, but in a different, lighthearted way.

You want to like a place like this, clearly someplace that’s been there in some form since the railroad next door, well, mattered to this town. There are lots of Giants items on the wall, which is great, and a bunch of regular people at the bar, and all this should be enough to make for repeat business.
But somehow the jokey collective effort to make the one Mexican guy in the bar feel uncomfortable and intimidated enough to leave, then the good chuckle about it afterward, just made me chug down my beer and flee in disgust, with no desire to come back. There are too many other bars in Dumont to put up with infantile bullshit like that here.
