I treated my mom to Sam’s Sushi for Mother’s Day and my family loved it. We ordered the sashimi special choice B which is intended for a party of 3. It costs about $ 115 which is expensive but worth it. The sashimi special comes with so many different Korean dishes such as salad with jelly fish, fried fish, steamed egg, katsu, pumpkin soup, and so much more. They had lots of unique dishes that you don’t see at other restaurants. Some of the dishes had ginger and wasabi that I think might be off-putting for people who are not used to that kind of spice. I tried a little of everything and I was feeling a bit full by the time of the sashimi came out. But when you see good food, you just gotta keep going sometimes. As for the sashimi platter itself, it was very fresh and satisfying. After you’re done with the sashimi platter, they bring out the fish soup, rice with fish eggs, and fried fish. I really enjoyed this last part of the meal but I was so full, I couldn’t finish. The service was wonderful even though I could tell the servers were busy. The servers apologized about the sashimi platter coming out late but I didn’t even think it was late. Also, the owners were also walking around and greeting guests. Great service overall.

I didn’t eat here. Tried to but the guy made me wait for a while even though I saw empty tables.

Sam’s sushi is one of my favorite places in Duluth and also one of the best places to bring close friends and family. I’ve been here at least 5 times for the sashimi courses(loads of appetizers and a variety of sashimi followed by a korean spicy fish stew and rice mixed with roe) and have always left full and satisfied. My parents are regulars here, and the staff are always friendly and accommodating every time. Would highly recommend the sashimi here, although I’ve never had any of the other items on the menu.

This place is very very good. Sushi is so fresh and has so much flavor. The setting wow!!! I took my wife for Valentine’s Day and the fact that you get your own room was a plus. Gentlemen if you are going on a date this is the spot.

Sam’s Sushi is an interesting mix of Korean and Japanese, and it gives customer’s a chance to experience both cuisines all in one sitting. When we first arrived we were seated in this little room that was so cute, but it didn’t help mask the noise level of the other customer’s. There’s the standard button on the wall for Korean restaurants that you’re supposed to use to call for your waitress when needed. I was surprised to see that they gave us banchan, the Korean side dishes presented before a meal. There were lotus roots, Korean potato salad, kimchi, spicy cucumbers, and one or two more that I forgot. They refilled those when they saw it was empty as well, which was a plus. My sister got the pork cutlet and I got the chirashi don. She said her pork cutlet was okay, but not the best she’s had. It came with a corn and cheese Korean side dish and rice. My chirashi don had some interesting fish that I hadn’t seen before, and I can’t give you the name of them because I had no clue what I was eating. The fish didn’t seem super fresh, and the fish that I didn’t know the names of… some of them had a really weird after taste. The rice also wasn’t super great with the furikake… some kind of fishy flaked topping on top of the bed of rice. There was also an eel roll that we got which was quite yummy, but we only got that because they didn’t have soft shell crab that night. Over all, it’s okay. There’s not many sushi places in Duluth, so this is only one of a small few. There’s an added bonus of it being part Korean so there are more choices than just Japanese dishes. The sushi isn’t super fresh, and while it’s not bad, other places nearby are almost certainly better.

Have come here many times and very impressed with the quality of the fish used and the pride taken in the preparation of the dishes. This is a Korean owned establishment that is a Japanese Korean hybrid and offers the best of both worlds. They have freshly prepared Korean dishes the always special little side dishes and great lunch options for both. I recommend the sashimi salad that is a great mixture of sashimi, fish eggs and different greens similar to bibimbap. Add the spicy red tomato paste and mix it up. When sitting at the sushi bar I always seem to enjoy the very friendly sushi chefs and on many occasions have had been offered samples of different fish options or side dishes. Overall this place is a winner for me and if you are in the area you should make sure to put it on your list of places to try!

I really like this restaurant and give it four stars Star #1– Customer Service is on point! We asked for extra skidashi(extra side dishes that come with the sashimi combo) and usually they say no but she said I’ll try and ask!(I don’t know if my family being Korean helped?) Star #2– Quality is great. I’m really picky with my raw fish because I have a hypersensitive taste buds that can taste the sea million miles away… I have been to multiple high course Japanese sushi house and this place is pretty good on freshness and quality of there food. Star #3– Atmosphere here is nice it’s good for little parties and you can call ahead make a reservation. We had a little room to ourselves and it was nice cause we could here our own voices Star #4– Time, the food came out just in the right order. It was like a never ending line of food and there timing was perfect. Also they don’t rush you to leave! Why I didn’t give 5 stars is I have been here with American people and if you don’t have a Korean person or someone who know what there ordering your kinda stuck. Some waitress go beyond helping you and some are like ehh call us when your ready.

Stopped off mid-afternoon before an event at the nearby Gwinnett Arena. Wife and I were just wanting something light, so we ordered the Sashimi Platter for one to share. Wow! The amount of food was amazing, and very tasty. The range of vegetables was impressive, and the sashimi itself was excellent. The presentation was also superb. Some oddities(tea served in large glass, the«drink this» dessert) but nice oddities. The restaurant itself is very well laid out, with lots of privacy tables(good place for a date, I would think), and the service was quite good. One thing to keep in mind: most of the menu and nearly all the signage is in Japanese and Korean. Having a good translation app on your phone comes in VERY handy.

First and last time here. for some reason it lagged when i checked in so it says 2 check ins but. only one… xD they were out of the«robster» special which is fine, instead ordered the regular sushi special, mostly fresh — the yellowtail had been sliced from frozen! D: –anger– the red snapper had an ORANGETINT to it, it should be near white with a fleshy pink tint… the salmon was fresh, but i think i would rather buy salmon from costco next time. my gf was buying so i just had to suck it up but yea… maybe i came at a bad time or a bad day, but this bad day is enough to make me go to my regular places instead. the banchan were just ok too. really not worth the cost.

I received recommendations for Sam’s from local Korean friends. I told them I was looking to get some nice fresh sashimi and this was the first place they mentioned. So my family and close friends hit up this place for dinner and boy, it was amazing. Our group included 5 adults and 2 children so we ordered the fresh sashimi set for 4 people and a tuna roll. The set comes with a great variety of dishes before the fresh sashimi is served so it was enough to feed 5 adults. The fresh sashimi included flounder, sea cucumber, sea urchin, golden sea squirt, albacore, and spoon worm.(I know spoon worm sounds real gross but its nothing like what you are thinking). We also ordered sannakji later which is raw small octopus that has been cut into smaller pieces. Its pretty fun to eat them because the pieces continue to move and stick onto the walls of your mouth while chewing them. I really enjoyed the fresh sashimi here. Everything tasted«fresh» as its supposed to and they were all great quality. I haven’t ordered other types of food here so I can’t speak for other dishes but the fresh sashimi set was amazing. Definitely worth the money!

Friendly staff and good food. I haven’t ventured too much into Japanese food but have lots of friends that love it. My friend heard Sam’s sushi was good so we gave it a try. First I tried walking in from the back door but it was locked; went around to the side of sound of music karaōke, which is where the front door is. Inside every table looked sectioned off into mini rooms/包间儿. We had four people but still sat in one of the rooms, which could easily seat 8. The table was long, but I understood why as all our food was served(to be able to fit everything). My friend wanted to order the combo for four and we did, for $ 150 after tax/before tips. The menu was barely in English as this place is a Korean-owned Japanese restaurant. So I really had no idea what we ordered. It came with 13 side dishes, a plate of yellowtail? sashimi and a thing of uni and other sea creatures served on shredded radish bedding. Before the sashimi part was brought, I was already full from the side dishes. Gotta eat it anyways since I’m paying so much for this. It was interesting trying all the stuff as I felt adventurous in eating what I’ve no clue about. The abalone sashimi was hard and crunchy; the uni was fresh and sweet. The only thing on our table I didn’t try was the fresh oysters. My friends said it was really fishy so I chickened out. Although isn’t fresh oysters supposed not to be fishy? After our side dishes and sashimi combo was served, our waitress asked if we wanted soup. I was like yes please, bring everything I’m paying for. The spicy soup came with rice as well. The rice was served in a stone bowl with masago and seaweed salad on top, which you’re supposed to mix together and eat. The rice was delicious. The spicy soup tasted kimchi based, it had 面疙瘩, which got me really excited. It was made with fish bones apparently, with the fish being what was served sashimi style previously on our table. Finally, we ended our feast with sweet rice waterish soup. Overall a fun experience but I cannot afford to eat like this often. When you’re feeling adventurous, grab some friends to try Sam’s sushi’s combos!

Went here this past Friday… My friend and I decided to go for the authentic Korean menu. Needless to say, we needed some assistance since we both can’t read Korean. Lol. The item that was suggested was option A under the shashimi special section. Please take a look at my pic. There is no way I can replicate the Korean words. The waitress said this came with 14 banchan(side dishes). :/Yup. With 2 folks, we managed to kill it after 2 ½ hours later — lol. I mean. The main course was sashimi so there was def room for other items. The banchan were super delish(unsure if I add an «s» that this would screw this word up — hehe). There were some unique items that I haven’t seen elsewhere before like the fatty fish head. There’s a term for this, but I can’t remember it to save my life. The service was superb. Our waitress was sweet as she rearranged our plates and even mixed some dishes for us. Lol. I didn’t like the fact that this place closes at midnight and not 12:30AM like the sign on the door. Yeah. It must be an Asian thing neglecting to update marketing items properly. Near the end though they were rushing for us to get out of there even though there were more guests that came in after us across the hallway. :/Yes, even with the certain pulled closed, we could see that the group that came in was def large and after us. Parking was pretty readily available since this place was in a semi spacious complex. The complex itself wasn’t super huge, but there was plenty of parking spaces up for grabs.

It’s really hard to find a good, authentic sushi restaurant in Georgia, especially when it comes to quality. SAMs sushi is hands down one of the best sushi restaurant I have ever been to. You can really see the precision in the cuts from the chef, plus the price is really good considering the quality you are getting in return. You can actually taste the freshness of the sushi and unless you tried fresh sushi, its hard to know what your missing out on. I think all sushi lovers should definitely check this spot out for sure.

Before I get into my review, I’ll tell you why I’ve rated this place a 1 star out of 5 stars. I’ve been coming here since last year and a couple of months before *this year* as well. And the quantity size of the sashimi *raw fish* was awesome. My waitress was attentive and always there when I needed something. The caviar rice bowl came out with various colors of flying fish roe but now it looks like it has been down-graded to a singular color *orange flying fish roe* and now with seaweed. The banchan from before were tastier than now. I gave them at least a one star, because the staff greeted and said good-bye to us *my mom and sister*. Also, the sashimi came out fresh! I was looking at the menu and didn’t see the lunch specials *lunch hours noon til 4 pm*. They normally have great deals on their lunch combos. So like before, I always order the Lunch Combo A. Comes out with sashimi, California rolls or fried pork cutlet, steamed eggs, fried fish *mackerel*, caviar rice bowl *hot*, 5 pieces of nigiri sushi and fish stew. I hope I didn’t leave out anything else. All that for $ 34.99! *If you’re a sashimi lover, then always ask the hostess/server if the sashimi is fresh and you’ll get your fresh sashimi. I guarantee it!!* The banchan as I mentioned earlier looked plain, boring and unappetizing! The sashimi is suppose to be larger in quantity and now it’s not even a pound of sashimi! That’s what I came for! Nonetheless, the sashimi came out fresh and was really tasty with soy sauce and wasabi! I chose the California rolls. When it came out, I was, again, unimpressed. They did a sloppy job on making it and there weren’t enough flying fish roe on top of the rolls. Steamed eggs used to come in a bigger size stone bowl. not anymore. it now comes in a tinier stone bowl which disappointed me BIG time! Steamed eggs were delicious, though. The fried mackerel came out fine. I’m not a fan of fried mackerel, though, so I really didn’t care about this dish. Now this dish, uuuurrrghhhh!!! I was soooooooo MAD about it when I saw how poorly they presented it! The flying fish roe *caviar* rice bowl used to come out with various colors such as «red», «yellow» and«black» with seaweed! Now it comes out with just the original color of the flying fish roe *orange* and seaweed. I was so mad! The only time I brought my camera was to find out that they changed how they presented it. so I didn’t take a picture. My sister, Crystal H, took a picture of all the food, so be patient and you can see it when she reviews this place as well. NOTE: this was her first time and told me it was pretty-ok. So her experience is going to be a lot different than mine. I guess I’m just a picky eater! The nigiri sushi was ok. Still the same as before. No change. The fish stew, however, was bad… not just bad, but terrible! It looked like they added the«left-over» fish bone from yesterday’s stew! Know why? Because there were no meat on the fish. only bones! And a lot of soo jae bee *kind of like gnochi* with some greens, too. Also, our waitress didn’t check up on us! My sister needed a refill of ice water *barley tea* and she never came back after serving us all of the food that was suppose to come out. Bad customer service! I was so disappointed and I’m never coming back here!

Decided to try this place out after hearing about it from a friend of mine. The atmosphere is a little bit old and you don’t feel like you are in a sushi/sashimi restaurant. After looking at the menu, it was fairly priced but still on the expensive side. Expect to spend around 75/person for a full sashimi dinner. Really hard to explain this place as fish is okay, side dishes okay, and service okay. All in all okay. I have had better but in Atlanta it is okay.

This place is my second choice for sashimi and sushi in Gwinnett. I discovered this place via Unilocal when my first choice was closed for lunch on a Sunday. Sam’s is an unsual name for an authentic Japanese and Korean Restaurant. I had a craving for octopus and giant clams. So I ordered the octopus and giant clam sushi. The octopus was good but I rather eat it straight up without the rice. It was cooked but served really cold. Um slushy octopus? it was like that for the white tuna sashimi as well. It must have been taken right out of the freezer and served to me. The giant clam smells like the inside of an aquarium. I almost gagged a little. I liked their spicy tuna roll alot. The presentation was very zen with bamboo and fresh leaves in a box. It’s nothing like those places that load a bunch of sushi on a wooden boat.

Even though this sounds like a Japanese restaurant, it is actually more of a Korean and Japanese restaurant. And I love this place. I usually order the sashimi dinner special. This comes with a lot of banchan, different types of fishes, sashimi, tempura, California roll, fish stew, fish roe rice, and probably more that I’m forgetting about. The fish here tastes really fresh, and they are pretty generous with the portions. Also with this dinner combination, you get Korean and Japanese food. Also, you always get to sit in your own room, and the service here is really good.

It’s been a few months since I was here but felt like I needed to write a review. I feel weird for even mentioning this but I ended up here by accident after meeting a friend at Hooters, neither of us wanted to even attempt to eat their food so we opened up the Unilocal app and did a search. I have eaten at several of the places around Sam’s and wanted to try something new. I was not disappointed at all! Now, although I’m a huge fan of all things that consist of the various Asian cuisine, Sushi isn’t my favorite because I do NOT like Salmon at all and for the most part don’t do fish period, unless is fresh Grouper or Ahi Tuna… now with that said, I will eat fish if its freshly caught and I know the quality is good. When we walked in, we were greeted with a smile and they seated us quickly in one of the little rooms with the curtains which was nice and private. It paid off since 10 minutes later we were well into a large bottle of cold Sake and we got a little loud and laughed lots. The sashimi was fresh and didn’t have a fishy smell to any of it. The sushi rolls we had were all very fresh and since we didn’t get anything fried, there was no way of hiding it in batter. You could tell they rolled them right before bringing them to the table(thank you) too. The portions are quite large and can feed more than the standard dishes that are suppose to serve 2, but can barely serve one. The pricing compared to the quality are in line and we walked out with a large bill, but it was worth it to me. Two things I don’t mind paying good money for… Good quality toilet paper and food. The menu can be hard to read and understand, along with the wait staff so just point and smile, they will smile back and just eat whatever you are brought… I’m sure you needed to branch out anyway! This happened to us twice and really what we got was better then what we thought we were ordering, either that or our server thought we were doing it wrong and took matters into her own hands. Either way we didn’t mind. Next time I am going to try the Kimchi, it was little to «out of the comfort zone» of the person I was with, so we opt’d out.

Metro atlanta is far from the ocean so I understand that fish will not be as fresh. However, when the fish is not fresh to the point that it melts in your mouth(in a disgustingly fishy way) without giving you a chance to chew, then we have a problem. I would give three star here for the food, only because there were a lot(semi-good to delicious) side dishes and the soup and rice after the sashimi was actually really good. The portion was also huge! Unfortunately, the service was more horrible than the fish. They forgot to bring our waters till we reminded them for the second time that our water was missing(after half of our food was gone). And they didn’t refill our waters even though we have asked for the refill. The price is pretty good for the portion. Solid three stars!
