I had been meaning to purchase a new bed for quite some time, but I decided to hold off until the Black Friday sales since I thought I would get the best deal on a mattress during the biggest shopping weekend of the year. Although I had done a bit of research(okay, not much at all) about beds and mattresses, I was hoping it would be easy to find a good mattress at a great price. It turned out that I was too exhausted from shopping for other things during the wee hours of Black Friday, so I didn’t actually go mattress shopping until the following Saturday morning. Since I was in Duluth, I decided to stop at the Original Mattress Factory on Satellite Blvd. My parents had gotten good deals when they purchased my siblings’ beds from another Original Mattress Factory, so I thought I would see if I could get a great deal as well. My younger sister and I walked into the store, and there was one customer on her way out. The inside of the store was absolutely plain and unattractive. I mean it seriously didn’t feel very inviting. The place was literally dead, so it was understandable that there was only one employee. I asked him if they had any deals on Black Friday and if so, whether the sale was still going on. He simply responded that they never have sales since they always offer their mattresses at the lowest prices possible. Their mission is to «Produce quality mattresses in our own factory and sell them directly to consumers, eliminating the middleman and providing real value.» After telling me that they never have sales, it seemed like the employee pretty much made up his mind that I wouldn’t be interested in actually purchasing a mattress there. Sure, I appreciated that he didn’t try to pressure me to buy a mattress, but I also felt like he didn’t even make an effort to try to sell me one. So my sister and I left after probably less than ten minutes in the store. Overall, the Original Mattress Factory store in Duluth gets 3 stars for representing the definition of Unilocal’s «A-OK.» The employee was pretty much nonchalant, and the store was very boring-looking. Maybe the lack of «Sale» signs was odd to me. This store is a decent place to start your search for a mattress, but I’m sure most people would want to continue their search elsewhere to be sure they are truly getting the best deal. I went mattress shopping today, a huge financial decision for someone who makes a pretty small salary… I went to several different stores to shop around, and Original Mattress Factory was the first stop. The salesman(Tim) was very nice and helpful. He was very knowledgeable about the product, which is a big plus about shopping at a smaller store instead of a big department store. He allowed us plenty of time to look around and lie on the beds, testing them out. He answered all the questions we had without getting impatient. I was torn between getting a queen or king size in 2 separate styles, and he took the time to price them all out for me. When we left(since it was the first of many stops of the day) he didn’t try to pressure us into staying and purchasing immediately. After several stops in the area, we returned with a decision made. I tried out the beds again just to be sure, and bit the bullet and made the big purchase. I bought one of the firm Orthopedic models and it will be delivered in 3 days. Delivery cost was reasonable, $ 55 includes the removal of my old mattress. So far I’m beyond pleased with my experience and purchase. Crossing my fingers that everything goes well with the delivery and the final product.
