We have been here a few times and the food is decent but a little high priced and service is not the friendliest. We just like it because of the little TV and it’s right by Hmart. I’m not Korean, and they turned me down for having a Dol party(baby’s first birthday) there when I asked. My husband, who is Korean, went back in to ask again and was accepted to the club I guess… and they explained to him all the ins and outs and how the dining room is partitioned and can be changed to accommodate the number of guests we have. LOL. Same MANAGER spoke to both of us. Unbelievable. This has been the worst case of discrimination I’ve ever experienced from Koreans. The first was at another restaurant where we were the only table that didn’t get the free tiny yogurt drink after dinner. The second was at a stone pot bibimbhap restaurant. I swear we’re nice. Maybe the toddler and baby scare them. Haha. We are permanently taking Chang Dam off our list of places to eat. Because there’s way too many great places to eat in this great city of Atlanta… and welcome my mixed babies just as they are with open arms!!!

I’ve tried the majority of KBBQ place in the Duluth area and this has been my least favorite experience so far. One thing I liked is that they are open for lunch where as most places are only open for dinner. First of all, there is no AYCE option which is a disappointment for me because I eat a lot. So you have to order portions separately which makes eating here pretty expensive if you like to try different meats and/or eat a lot. Also their serving sizes aren’t even generous, and I’d even go as far as to say small. They also didn’t give us as many appetizer items you normally get, and they don’t have many sauce options for dipping the meats in. I don’t think I’d return here to give it another chance.

Misleading ‘special menu’ of Kalbi and Naeng myun. Too much sugar in both, and a tiny bit of Kalbi. You have to beg for more napkins. The bathroom always has watered down liquid soap. I think this place survives for years because it is next to H-Mart of Duluth, GA. Nothing special. They have a sushi menu in a Korean restaurant, but I have accepted that Koreans like eating and selling Japanese food in a ‘Korean restaurant’. Very hypocritical, but I accept it. The staff needs some etiquette training. They need to learn the concept of a return customer. We used to like this place. That was about 2009 to 2011. I think it steadily went down hill, and we now go to their competitor, Jang Su Jang. Which beats them in taste, service. Jang Su Jang doesn’t have sushi, but that’s alright with me.

Mind you I’m not Korean but in regards to this establishment I cannot say enough good things. First the ambience it’s like you are whisked away to so where that is certainly not Georgia. Either the private booths, Bar B Que, Open Area, or Sushi Bar the attention to detail for each setting is obvious. The staff is «great» mind you they seem to never remember our dining there but that’s the«cool» thing there is not let’s say catering. Each time we dine the staff is always very courteous and informative in regards to the menu and the appetizers served in between courses(the little dishes just keep coming the more you eat the more they bring). Which to me is soo cool because it shows how proud they are of the food and culture and they’re eagerness for you to experience it. The sushi is always very fresh presentation which is key is always different which is to me a plus. Goes to say the chef is always looking for ways to present a meal that not only taste delicious but looks great as well. The size of the rolls are ridiculous. A bite is always an amazing overwhelming mouth full of goodness, which is expected from the culture. The side dishes such as the kimchi are delicious others are as well you just have to keep an open mind in regards to where you are dining. The staff checks on you periodically making sure you are okay but have the privacy to enjoy your meal as well. Mind you I am an African American so preconceptions are always given both ways but here when you present a pleasant smile it’s always well received and service never neglected.

Really great authentic Korean food. The sushi is fantastic, the restaurant is very nice, classy. I love their barbecue, the chef cooks it table side and they’ve always been very nice & personable. The portions are perfect. I visit Atlanta about every other month and we always eat here. It’s a really great restaurant!

First thing you notice when walking in is the classy décor. They incorporated the traditional Korean design with a touch of modern and it works well. There are signs of age but nothing that brings down the overall design. They have private rooms, which are pretty roomy and they each have a small TV attached that works out great for kids. The service is excellent. They greet everyone upon entry and are very professional with their approach. This place has professionalism down very well. The food was great too. We got the lunch bulgogi box($ 11.99). This was the only downside to this place. The meat was exceedingly salty. I also would have preferred regular opposed to fried rice. It comes with 4 Cali rolls, 3 pieces of tempura, and a salad. Pretty good for the price and portion ratio. The sashimi box($ 12.99) had the same sides. It came with about 6 pieces of sashimi, which is about all you should expect for that price anywhere you go. The sashimi bibimbap was very large and had a pretty good portion of fish. It is a little high in price though($ 15). The sides were amazing. They offer variety and quality you don’t commonly see at Korean restaurants. This is an excellent restaurant for quality and service. Check out their menu displayed at the front door.

Love this place. I usually just get sushi and soju because I’m a pescetarian, and I’ve never been disappointed with my meal. They bring out tons of side dishes that seem to vary every time I come here. I’ve had kimchi, carrots, miso soup, soy beans, kongjaban(Korean black beans), etc., and it’s always been tasty. For some reason, though, every single time I come here they forget to bring my table chopsticks, and then the waiters are hard to track down. Regardless, I love this place and definitely recommend it.

Terrible food. Terrible service. Expensive. I really cannot think of one good thing about this place. I have tried it a couple of times(not by my choosing) and will refuse to go here again. First the food: We had the set with the sashimi salad, galbi, fish stew, and some other small things and the spicy beef stew(yook gae jang). The sashimi was not fresh and tasted old. My dad l, who is a sashimi fiend, picked up on it the second he took a bite. His comment was that it tasted like frozen tilapia. I completely agreed. The galbi was so sweet my teeth almost fell out my head and the fish soup was so full of msg, it tasted like something from a Korean restaurant circa Atlanta 1990. The yook gae jang was ok and nothing memorable. The food was so bad we didn’t finish our meal. Our family never leaves food uneaten. Ever.(I guess except for this day). Service: The servers were difficult to track down and were really inefficient. Cost: So expensive for cheap, junky, old ingredients. This is one of the worst Korean places in Atlanta. In a city with so many better choices, please go elsewhere.

the hostess was terrible. first of all, she didn’t greet us. just asked us how many ppl would be eating and if we were going to grill or not. I usually never walk out even if the service is horrible, but we felt so uncomfortable that we decided to leave before ordering. I did feel bad to our waitress cuz she was really nice, however the stare down and not answering any questions asked was a turn off.

My friend and I shared two sushi rolls: Party in Your Mouth Roll and the Chungdam Roll. Part in Your Mouth Roll has salmon, cream cheese, avocado with crab, crunch, spicy mayo, and eel sauce on top. The Chungdam Roll had cucumber, spicy crab, lobster, baked eel with avocado, fresh salmon, fish roe, and crunch chips on top. If I had to choose between one, I’d pick the Chungdam Roll. However, it was a bit overpriced($ 13& $ 18) for the mediocre taste. So, if I came back again, it wouldn’t be for the sushi :)

Went here for a celebration with some friends. It was the first time having Korean Bbq for most of us. The food was good and the staff was very helpful with explaining the many options on their huge menu. It’s a great choice for the bbq, there are some good menu items and they even had some sushi rolls!

This place is just«meh.» Ordered the soon doo boo galbi combo. The meat came out undercooked and the soup was just ok. For soon doo boo soup, they don’t even ask you how you want your soup(spicy, medium, or mild). Banchan quality was good but in small quantity. Service was mediocre; servers made no effort to replenish our banchan or water supply. When I complained about the meat being undercooked, the waitress gave me the«so what» face. After tip I ended up paying about $ 35 for this mediocrity. Probably not going back.

I work at a restaurant so I know what’s expected… Getting right into it… The service was very slow and they were very inattentive. There was not much to choose from for a sushi roll selection and the food was just okay. Very disappointed!!!

Overall I really like this place. We have now been twice and I anticipate we will be back again. Everything food wise has been delicious. We have opted not to wait in line for the Korean BBQ tables and prefer to be seated right away and order off the menu. The staff is very friendly and attentive. I would absolutely recommend this place and if you live in Metro Atlanta, it is worth the drive.

We had a great dinner here a couple of nights ago. We had 8 people and got 2 bbq combination platters plus some soups and pancakes. It turned out to be way too much food and we left stuffed. The quality of the food is quite good and the atmosphere makes it a nice place for dates or more formal family gatherings. I would say the bbq combination platter can definitely feed up to 5 people which makes the price per person very reasonable!

I’ve eaten here a lot(and that’s saying something because I live in Marietta.) It is one of the nicer Korean bbq restaurants. They have gas bbq grills. They can accommodate a couple or a large group. The servers are efficient but don’t expect them to know a lot of English. If you need more of something, just ring the bell at the table. I love their plentiful sides. They also have a huge selection on their menu. I like their nang myung in the summer time. They have good gal bi and bulgogi. I was really bummed when they took my favorite item, blue crab soup off the menu. It’s been awhile but I’m still sad.

Chung dam is probably one of the few nicer Korean restaurants around. If you are looking for a nicer venue for Korean food, then you go here. Food is pretty good. Had a fix menu of sashimi, galbi gim(short rib), spicy seafood soup, spicy seafood noodles, korean pancakes and more. No complaints. Service…I like the American way of service where they try to anticipate your need before you ask but Korean style is you ring the bell for them. Here they try to anticipate your needs and check on you but they have the bell. I hate the bell… hahaha Something to get use to.

Maybe it’s because I haven’t had Korean food in a long time, but their food was on par! Even after we had the food thirty minutes after we picked it up! Yukaejang(spicy beef broth) had the right amount of spice and their jaeyuk bokkeum(spicy marinated beef) was a hefty portion. Also, if you want bibimbap(vegetable rice), this place gives you a lot of vegetables and shredded beef on the side to mix into your bowl. All dishes also came with miso soup which was nice. I heard there were lots of good Korean restaurants in Atlanta, but I’ll be back here for sure. I wonder if they have lunch specials.

Chung Dam is a traditional Korean restaurant located in the Super H Mart shopping plaza on Pleasant Hill Road. If you’re facing H Mart, Chung Dam is on the right. The storefront sign advertises sushi, sashimi, and(Korean) BBQ. This restaurant has been around for many years and is not a bad choice if you’re looking for a Korean restaurant with a well-rounded menu. Along with Korean cuisine, Chung Dam also serves sushi. There’s a sushi bar inside. Speaking of the inside, this restaurant looks surprisingly nice. The interior features a lot of woods, from floor to ceiling. The atmosphere is more elegant and«upscale» than most Atlanta area Korean restaurants. I’m talking chandeliers, ornate artwork and furniture, various plants for décor, and British leather doors. Seating consists of a variety of semi-private booths and rooms(many with TVs) with tables of varying sizes, along with out-in-the-open tables. Looking at the place from the outside, you wouldn’t think all of this would be in here. The menu has a lot to offer and can be overwhelming if you don’t know what you want. The sushi menu is basic, but respectable. You can find most of the typical nigiri selections. Rolls(including hand rolls) and sushi combos are available. Non-sushi Japanese items offered include donburi(rice bowls), teriyaki, and tonkatsu(fried pork cutlet). Most rolls are $ 10 – 15 each and most nigiri will set you back $ 5 – 7 for every two pieces. They have some massive sashimi platters that cost as much as $ 250(!). The bulk of the menu consists of a wide range of Korean food such as Korean BBQ, naengmyeon(cold noodles) and other noodles like japchae(translucent noodles), assorted pan-fried or braised meat and seafood dishes, guk, jjigae, and tang(soups and stews, including tofu soup), hot pot, grilled whole fish, and rice dishes including bibimbap(Korean mixed rice). Expect to spend roughly $ 10 – 15 for the simpler soups/stews, noodles, and rice dishes and $ 20+ for BBQ and some of the more elaborate or special entrees. I really like the banchan(Korean side dishes) served here. They have banchan I haven’t seen anywhere else in Atlanta such as dried shrimp/prawn and a particular type of chopped and marinated, deep green seaweed. The seaweed tastes fantastic as do the other banchan dishes such as the kimchi, pickled bean sprouts, and tofu with spicy sauce. Additional banchan include pickled daikon radish and pickled and spicy cucumber. I love kimchi and Chung Dam’s kimchi has become one of my favorites. It’s not too sour nor too spicy. It seems to have struck a near-perfect balance of flavors for me. The kimchi has more color(green) than typical kimchi(mostly red) and isn’t soaked in sauce. Some might consider it too«dry,» but I like it. Some dishes I recommend include the dolsot bibimbap($ 13.99), galbi gui($ 23.99), and japchae($ 14.99). Dolsot means«stone bowl,» so the bibimbap(mixed rice) is served, still sizzling, in a large stone bowl. After this dish is served, the rice still cooks at your table because the bowl is so hot. The rice eventually sticks to the bowl and becomes crispy/burnt and that’s usually the best part. I notice Chung Dam’s stone bowls seem to be wider and shallower, meaning more surface area to produce yummy, crispy rice. The bibimbap comes with a side of gochujang(red chili paste) which you can apply liberally on top. The idea is to mix everything together. Other ingredients included are shredded carrots and daikon radish, mushrooms, bean sprouts, cucumber, seaweed, one fried egg, sesame seeds, and ground beef. It’s hard to go wrong with galbi gui — marinated Korean BBQ short ribs. It’s good almost no matter where you order it. One thing that’s great about Chung Dam’s version is they serve their galbi *off* the bone(except for two end pieces, which is partially used for presentation). Most Korean restaurants serve it on the bone, which can be annoying sometimes. I also notice that Chung Dam’s marinade is a little sweeter or richer, which is OK. The galbi gui is delicious and mouth-watering and I highly recommend it. Japchae noodles are clear, slippery noodles made from sweet potatoes. These noodles are soft and are usually served as a side dish, though I think they work quite fine as an entrée. The noodles are stir-fried with pieces of beef, seaweed, cucumber, scallions, carrots, cabbage, and fungus. I say fungus because that’s what I grew up calling it, but it’s a type of dark-colored, fluffy, «leafy» mushroom. The entire mixture is cooked with a slightly sweet sauce and sesame seeds are added on top. It’s a simple tasty dish that’s light yet filling at the same time. Service is fine. If you ever need service, there’s a button you can press at your table to call the attention of the servers. All of the tables have this button except for the free-standing, «out-in-the-open» tables, so take note.

Have been on several occasions, mostly with large groups of people, so we always use the private room. I really like the layout of the restaurant in that you can have more privacy even in smaller groups. The food here is really good and they are very generous with the ingredients they use for their side dishes, like chunks of dried seasoned fish and actually aged kimchi. I have had bbq grilled in front of you and bbq grilled in the kitchen, both have been delicious. The galbi is really delicious and nicely seasoned. Last time I was here, I ordered the galbi and seafood tofu stew combo. Both was really delicious and nothing to complain about and the services was great, i didn’t even really notice the servers as they brought the food and refilled drinks. The price here is a little higher than most other Korean places but the quality of the food is better and the ambiance is also great. Really enjoyed my experience here and would definitely go back and recommend it to people.
