The Blue Point

Very rare one can say that everything about a restaurant is perfect. First, the ambiance is wonderful. The bar is classy and comfortable. We enjoyed lunch and dinner here. Needless to say, it was by far the best part of Duck. The butternut squash soup was outstanding, as was the oyster stew. The trout and flounder were done perfectly, and the potatoes were heavenly. The wine selection is exceptionally good. Most importantly, the pecan pie was the most amazing dessert I have tasted. Almost as good as my Mom’s. Finally, the bartenders are excellent!!! Very personable and genuinely know what they are talking about when explaining the food and wine. If we ever return to Duck, The Blue Point will be the only place we dine at.

I was very impressed with this restaurant. From the moment walked in ownership/​management made you feel like a local. Terrific interaction with customers. This was with a heavy New Year’s Eve dinner crowd.
You could tell the bartenders have a big local following and they interacted well with all their customers. It is difficult for a restaurant that caters to tourists to have a local feel and this one certainly does.
Food was excellent. Appetizer wise we had the calamari (not fried and very well sauted). The tuna sashimi dish was very good as well. Not normal
Sushi grade frozen tuna but fresh caught Atlantic tuna appeared.
For dinner I had the flounder with succotash and it was excellent (not always a succotash fan but this was excellently prepared and would get again as the limas were well cooked — most places just don’t get everything well cooked). Others had the short ribs and rockfish. Everyone thought there dish was excellent.
Waiter gets an A+ with great interaction and recommendations. Overall the staff really made the experience great.
I try to reserve 5 star for the best of places in my opinion and this one very much deserves that ranking.
I’m not a regular to the outer banks but will surely make my way back here next time I have the opportunity.

Love this place. Our favorate place in Duck for people watching.
We ordered lunch and watched the young couples with kids eating and doing shots… yes thisvwas lunch! The kids kept going out and buying things at the local shops with the parents charge cards. The parents just kept doing shots… Good family atmosphere.
We ordered the seafood bisk and groper ultimate fish sandwich. The bisk was okay and the fried fish featured a huge piece of fish. Okay for fried… we preferre grilled. Great place for socializing and drinks… don’t bother with dinner here!

My husband and I went to Blue Point recently while we were staying in nearby Corolla. We were in the Outerbanks off-​season when restaurant options are limited with so many places closed. Blue Point immediately became a favorite and is now on our top 3 list in-​season or off-​season. Food is fantastic and the cocktails were perfectly served by friendly professional staff. Highly recommend going at sunset since they are located right on the edge of the Sound with spectacular sunset views! The atmosphere is a balance of — formal enough, casual enough, and not pretentious. Highly recommend them. We’ll be back soon– can’t wait!

Awesome place, what can I say? She had filet mignon pork chop (just imagine that one) I had a scrumptious catfish. Awesome meal, and the sunset was to die for. You gotta go.

The Blue Point surprisingly has the best mac and cheese I’ve ever had! I don’t say that lightly either… it wasn’t because it was «soo creamy» or «had 10 000 cheeses» either. It was because they infused it with poblano peppers, which added so much. It was unlike any other mac and cheese I’ve ever tasted.
The dish I got was trout with a nice sauce. I thought the fish was extremely fresh and tasty; it went well with the sides they served.
They have really nice window seats for you to look over the water while you’re eating. Very beautiful location!

This was highly recommended by the staff at the Hampton and they were dead on. As a matter of fact, they even called the restaurant for us so we could make reservations. I would definately suggest making reservations because they fill up quickly. We had reservations for 6:30 and while there were still tables available, by 7 pm the place was packed.
We were promptly seated when we walked in the door, given menu’s and drink orders taken. My iced tea was promptly delivered and our server apologized and explained that my wife’s Pomegranite Martini would be out shortly. In the meantime, he explained the menu and specials and the Martini was delivered.
We both chose items off of the dinner specials. I ordered the Flounder while my wife ordered Jumbo Lump Crabcakes. Both turned out excellent and while you don’t normally see much of it, the presentation was excellent.
For desert, she ordered Crème Brulee and I had the Pecan Tart. The Pecan Tart was good but not great because it was overly dry.
It’s a nice restaurant, an adventure in Find Dining at the Beach with a nice view of Albemarle Sound.
Would recommend to anyone but again, make reservations. As we were leaving, they was having to turn away walk-in’s because they did not have reservations.

Bottom Line: A classy establishment with great service that serves local seafood.
Blue Point is a very nice restaurant serving local seafood and southern favorites. It’s clear that the dishes are created with skill and creativity which makes for an inspiring menu that is more unique than many in the Outer Banks. Each meal starts with homemade yeast rolls that are aaaaaamazing. The She Crab soup had good flavor although I was expecting a creamier version.
Blue Point overlooks the Currituck Sound and a window seat will make for a lovely view while dining. Overall the décor of the restaurant is elegant although I did feel some elements were a bit out of place.
Service here was perfectly executed.

The soups were wonderful-​but this was the ONLY superb part of our experience. We had the she crab soup as well as the carrot ginger soup to start. We appreciated that the she crab soup wasn’t that of the overly cream– heavy variety– some may be disappointed if that is what they desire. The ginger carrot soup was as delicious as it sounded and I will surely be replicating this at home soon. After having these for starters we had high hopes.
Unfortunately the entrees disappointed– my husband’s scallops had a strong burned taste and the hash was bland. My crab sauté was indeed very crabby but skimped on the few flakes of smoked salmon. The bread pudding just tasted like ordinary polenta in texture and taste. I also got at least three pieces of shell in my dinner. For 32 – 33 $ entrees we were both extremely underwhelmed by the bland dishes.
We arrived at the start of dinner service and yet the waitress barely made a few quick appearances. We will not be returning.

This restaurant was suggested over and over as one of the best places to eat in the Outer Banks. We stopped in for lunch as we were leaving town after visiting the Currituck lighthouse. There was no wait for lunch, but I imagine they get busy at night.
My husband got the catfish and chips and I got the soft shell crab sandwich, which was one of the two specials of the day.
The catfish was fried as nuggets. I tried one and it did not have any off flavor. I can’t remember much about the fries. My husband enjoyed everything about his meal.
I was hesitant to get the soft shell crab as I’ve never had it before. But it was one of the few seafood things I had not already had and I figured this was a good place to try it. I was very pleased with my choice. The crab was whole and fried. I have to admit it was a little weird eating it whole, but it tasted great. It came on a sandwich with lettuce, tomato, and a sauce with potato salad on the side. I was impressed with the bun the sandwich came on – not your typical fluffy hamburger bun – it had a much better texture. The potato salad was fine, but I didn’t eat much of it.
We got the coconut cake and the pecan pie for dessert. The slice of cake was huge. While it tasted great, it ended up being too much sweet for me. I liked the lime curd on the side. My husband enjoyed the pecan pie.
The Blue Point lived up to and exceeded our expectations. I was glad that I took a chance on something new and it ended up being delicous.

It’s probably the best place to have dinner in Duck, North Carolina. You have a tranquil view of the bay. Place is casual elegant but nothing uniquely Obx. I started with North Carolina She-​Crab soup. Pretty good. It has a little kick to it and nice chunks of crab meat. The catfish was fried well but rather bland and the creamy sauce that came with it was also under seasoned. Scallops are great! Kimchee cabbage had a nice tang to it. The gritz was marvelous though. Our server was marvelous. Her name is Ellen. Overall, a nice place.

Fresh seafood and amazing views make this place a must stop when you are in Duck! We parked over by the visitors center and wandered through the gardens to the boardwalk. The boardwalk was so lovely with lights and interpretive signs and the hot /​humid weather was offset by the breeze coming off the sound. On the way to the restaurant, we passed families crabbing, kids paddle boarding and folks shopping in the little shops along the way. When we got to the restaurant I was pleasantly surprised to see a window wall overlooking the water and so i happily positioned myself to see the view. The menu looked amazing and I had a tough time deciding until I heard the specials… The moment he said fresh yellow fin tuna caught that morning, my mind was made up! The tuna was fresh, slightly seared and served on a bed of soba. The tuna was incredible and has ruined me know for the fish I usually eat in Arizona! Such a great place!

My family and I had a lovely dining experience at Blue Point. I loved the restaurant as soon as we walked in. The decorations were modern and elegant. The tables, lights and dinnerware were trendy and visually appealing. We sat on the back patio, which had live music, with our drinks while we waited to be seated.
The food was phenomenal. I had serious difficulty deciding on an entrée. Literally, every single menu item sounded delicious. I settled on the Local Mattamuskeet Jumbo Lump Crab Sauté with
herb onion spoonbread, salmon and chopped tomatoes. It was served together in one big bowl. The blue crab was locally caught and tasted extremely fresh. I loved how the ingredients tasted mixed together. The variety of consistencies was perfect. I’ve never seen a similar dish on any other menu.
My mom and Aunt ordered the fresh crab cakes, which were also amazing. They were served with a tasty lemon dil yogurt.
For dessert, I ordered the espresso brownie with coffee ice cream. It was very good, if you don’t mind a strong coffee taste (which I love). All of the ice cream is made at the restaurant.
Our server, Elaine, was very attentive and helpful. She was happy to help make recommendations when we were feeling indecisive. She also could not have possibly been sweeter.
If ever find myself in Duck, NC again, I will certainly be returning to Blue Point.

Nice honest menu with wholesome taste. A must to dine at while you’re in the area.
Be sure to book. They only take bookings 30 days out.

In imaginary internet points, this place gets a ⁵⁄₅! Service was impeccable. For an appetizer, we had the peach salad with candied pecans and fried green tomatoes. The peaches were great, would definitely recommend. A bread basket containing the BEST cornbread I’ve ever had was an added bonus. Everything looked good as a main course, but we finally settled on the crab cakes and scallops for our entrée and we were not disappointed!
This restaurant was the best we ate at while in duck. It has amazing views from the outdoor patio. The absolute best service of any restaurant we visited and amazing food. Like I said previously +5 stars, 1000 gold coins, upvote, etc. Don’t visit duck without coming here.

Had your lunch special today– grilled tuna over veggies. Currently feel like death. Last time I felt like this, I was laid up for 36 hours with a bad case of food poisoning. The veggies were great though. Perhaps the Chefs suggestion of Medium Rare is a little too rare? I’ve never had a problem eating fish prepared this way before though.
I did have one of the pale ales that was on draft with a glass of water. Maybe the taps need cleaning? I am typically weary of any bars taps but this place is one of the more expensive places to eat in Duck and wouldn’t expect a problem.
Have eaten here in the past (own a home here) and always had great food. This review is solely based off this visit and of getting really sick afterwards. I doubt it was the 2 eggs, toast and watermelon I ate for breakfast this morning.
I guess I will see how I feel in the morning and decide whether or not a return visit is ever in order.
update– was up every 90 minutes through the night doing what you don’t need me to spell out. Haven’t slept. Super dehydrated and nauseous. This is exactly what I was looking for to compliment my drive back home today.

The food was good and we enjoyed everything we got. There were a couple ways the dishes could have been taken to the next level. Regardless still enjoyable.
The noise level was really high and if you’re charging $ 30 for a plate I really feel like there shouldn’t be televisions pointing into the dining room. Just my opinion.
Bottom line: pricey, but good. On the fence on whether we would go back but we liked it for the most part.

Must try if you are in the area and looking for a nice place for dinner overlooking the water! The view is perfect. Reserve a table ahead of time to get a table next to the window!
The food/​menu is amazing… can’t go wrong with any of it! Most of the fish was caught that day if not the day before. For you meat eaters, plenty of delicious options too! I got the porkchops and my husband got the fresh tuna. It was delicious. I have to eat gluten free (celiac) and they were so accommodating! They are working on an official menu, but the server knew what was gluten free and double checked everything with the chef. Our server, Chris, was the epitome of customer service. He was superb and has worked for Blue Point for a long time! He brought out fresh bread as an appetizer and made sure to bring out a gf option for me — so nice! We couldn’t turn down dessert either… gluten free crème brûlée and my husband got the pecan pie. We left stuffed and happy! Also, the drinks are creative and perfectly crafted.
Can’t go wrong here! If we ever make it back to the outer banks, we will definitely eat here again!

There are no other words that can capture how spectacular something is with just three letters.
My lady and I came here the other night for dinner and a few cocktails. We were silly enough to show up without making a reservation and were expecting to wait about 45 minutes. This would not have been a problem, but a party in front of us could not wait so the hostess face us there spot and we sat within 5 minutes. So tip number 1: make a reservation.
We sat on what looked like a closed in porch section and got a great view of the sunset. We started with a few cocktails and appetizers. The she-​crab soup was good as was the shrimp and grits with Tabasco butter. Not the best we have had but still executed flawlessly. The BP old fashioned was amazing! So tip 2: even if you aren’t a fan of whisky beverages, get a BP old fashioned.
For dinner we had a yellowfin tuna special and a cornmeal gnocchi dish. My tuna was cooked to a perfect rare and served on a bed of charred asparagus and local peas and dressed in a white balsamic sauce. It was great!
However, we both agreed that the gnocchi dish was once of the best dishes we had ever had. The most tender cornmeal pasta balls served alongside a confit duck leg, more seasonal veggies, morel mushrooms all gently placed in a puddle of brown butter sauce. It was superb! Tip 3: forget about hush puppies, cornmeal gnocchi is where it is at.
The only downside to the meal is that we were pretty stuffed when the dessert menu arrived. We split an affogato (espresso served over house made ice cream). The house made ice cream and caramel were perfect, and made up for the disappointing espresso. Tip 4: save room for pecan pie and skip coffee.
Considering how great the meal was the price was not bad. I have paid much more for much less quality. We will definitely be back!

We stopped here for lunch. I think the dinner menu is much more appetizing. I had the catch of day with clam chowder. The clam chowder and fish were delicate and fresh.
My fried had the BBQ pork sandwich which he liked.
Will have to come back for the dinner menu.
