Tri-Valley One Stop Career Center

I must have caught this place on a bad day given all the other reviews. I walked in wanting to ask a question on the training that is offered once you are on unemployment as it is a question on the unemployment form (you can’t complete the form unless you answer so you need an answer if you want your unemployment monies). I’m pretty sure I knew the answer as I researched it online but I wanted confirmation as this determines whether you get money to help on the education or not.
When I arrived at the desk, I greeted the receptionist at the desk and asked if I could as her about the training program that CA provides when you are on unemployment. She cut me off and said no. I have to attend the orientation and given I don’t live in Alameda county, I had to go to the CA job training over in Concord which meant I had to call them to get in that training to find out my answer.
That just bites as I wanted to ask how I should fill out the question on the unemployment form given this place is referenced in the unemployment book (DE2320) to go to for questions on training programs. Thank goodness the book also referenced the CTB fact sheet.
The receptionist wasn’t nice at all towards me. I knew the difference when she said I have to attend orientation so fill out the form then we’ll talk. As I sat to fill-​out the form, another person came in who she knew and boy did she greet him really nice.
Fortunately, I didn’t need this place as my former employer gave me an outplacement agency that already gave me the same type of classes. All I wanted from this place was confirmation on a program (Workforce Investment Act) if I could utilize it for further education or not.
The «funny» was since I knew what the CTB fact sheet stated, I’d go with that as I want to file my unemployment form. The receptionist said she wanted to give me a number before I left as I got up to thank her to leave. I had no idea what she was doing with the bar code. Well of course I wouldn’t as she had already forgot who I was (though I was sitting in front of her) as she pulled another woman’s form and was referring to me as her.
I think my experience matches the other one that didn’t go so well when they wanted Veteran’s help.
Given this is mostly likely a government funded site, it’s too bad that they can’t just answer a question or say they can’t and why as people like me want to complete their unemployment form the best they can so there are no issues. And yes, I could go to the EDD, but this place was referenced by the EDD for the CTB program. It would have been nice if any of the counselors there could have taken the 5 minutes to advise me how I should answer the question.
There are a lot of great services I could see from their calendar that they provide so my best advice is take a deep breath and make sure you have the time to spend there and just know you’ll have to return for one of their orientations. Orientation locations are based on what county you live in. Which meant for me, even though Dublin is mileage closer for me, I have to go to Concord (Port Chicago area) for my orientation then ask them to allow me to go to Dublin.
I guess all I can say is I didn’t approach them the right way as there’s a process you have to do before they’d answer a question.

Tri-​Valley One stop is a great resource for job seekers. They offer so many great workshops including resume writing and interviewing skills that are invaluable. Additionally the weekly Job Club facilitated by Mike the Job Developer was a great way to meet fellow job seekers and get encouragement and a burst of positive energy from Mike. Thank you Mike, Sheila, Jerry & Christian for all your support and guiding me to the perfect job!

The services are free, informative, and useful, especially the workshops on resume, networking, and interviewing skills. The people working here are super friendly and really help make you feel welcomed.

The employees here are so friendly and helpful! They offer free typing certificates with an appointment. Definitely try them out.

I dropped by here for some Veteran services as I am a recent military Veteran and was seeking some information from their Vet representative.
Their website stated they had Veteran services available, and I did try to call beforehand to confirm his/​her availability to speak with me. My calls were not answered, so I decided just to drive over there since it was nearby.
Upon arrival and inquiry of the Vets rep, the woman at the counter told me, «He isn’t here.» I looked at her confused and she continued, «Sometimes he comes in, sometimes he doesn’t. Try again after around 1pm.» I was wondering what on earth was going on, and just decided to take a deep breath and wait until 1pm to speak to him.
At 1pm, I called Tri-​Valley, and was answered to right away (yay!). I asked the woman on the phone if he was in yet, and she said, «Nope, he didn’t show up.» After a few seconds of silence, I asked if he had a direct line I could call. She did give me his cell phone, and I called him.
I cannot remember his name off hand, but he was incredibly nice and friendly. He was more than willing to chat with me on the phone and do whatever he could to provide the services I needed. I did find out, however, that he is spending more time working in Fremont, so his availability at this location in Pleasanton is going to be limited. Just a heads up for any Veterans looking for services here.
The service at Tri-​Valley One-​Stop could have been a little more… helpful. Their website and information brochures are contradicting in terms of Vets services, and it would be helpful to have true office hours and services stated there to avoid future confusions.

This place offers various free services that useful to job seekers and for career development.
There are classes in job search strategies, resume development, interviewing, networking, presenting yourself on LinkedIn, discovering your interests and skills, etc.
Their facility includes computers that you may use to do job search, job submissions, posting of your resume and to do online networking.
The Jobs Coordinator hosts a Job Club with presenters from various firms that have job openings. The meetings are great for networking with other job seekers.
The counselors are available for consultation for job search advise, resume reviews, interview practice and they have can help you obtain training to enhance your skills.
Check it out if you are out of job, re-​entering the workforce, considering a job change or if you want to enhance your success in today’s job market.

I wish I had made use of this free resource sooner! They’ve been a tremendous help and the people that work there are helpful.
