Khyber Pass Kabob

This is my favorite Afghan place to eat. Owned by a family. Main cook is the husband and the wife helps with the customers. Everyone of them courteous and polite. I ordered their fish dish with rice. Excellent. My friend ordered Bolani and Beef Kabobs. I tried the a piece of Bolani which I recommend everyone to order. Their Mediterranean salad was very fresh too.

Really nice place with excellent Afghan food. Love the service. Maryam goes above and beyond to make us feel at home amazing customer service. Thats why i love family owned businesses their friendliness and fresh food… This is what all businesses should do make customer feel that they are special she even brought as desert. The kebab was tender and cooked to perfection the qaboli pallow is amazing the lamb is cooked so good. delicious…

Great food. Best Chapli kabab and kabuli pualoo i have ever had.
I was little concern about meat they use because some body said they are not halal. So i spoke with the owner and she took me to her freezer and kitchen to show me the stamped zabiha meat boxes. That was so nice of her to prove the authenticity of food.
It was a great lunch.

I ate lunch here today and it was far beyond what I expected.
I tried the Mantoo dumplings. Very light with an array of veggies, hamburger and yogurt dressing. Delicious!
I had Beef Teka Kabob. The meat cut like it was a filet mignon! Perfectly cooked throughout.
Just the right amount of spice that gave a tiny bite when you eat it.
The cooked cabbage was something I have not experienced before with more mild spices.
I could have ordered another meal to go but then what would my friends think of me?
You need to stop by and try this gem of a place in the neighborhood strip mall.
If you book the room where you sit on pillows you will forget you are in Dublin Calif.

The staff were so welcoming and expressed a great energy while being a guest at their restaurant. We had a delightful meal and enjoyed every bite. I personally had the mantoo and my husband and rest of the family had tasteful kabobs with tons of flavor. Thank you for a memorable experience.

My cousin found this place on Unilocal and decided to try it out. WOW !! It’s good for a small location. I got the Tri Tip dinner and it was awesome. The waitress was very nice and even the owner came by to say hello. Whatever that green sauce they use is super good. Will come back

Atmosphere is intimate, inviting and well kept. Waiting staff were courteous and sweet. This is promising!
For appetizer: Outstanding bolani! I ate half of the huge plate by myself… couldn’t stop!
From there, it was a bit of let down. Most famous dish had lamb shank with zero flavor. Rice was not seasoned either.
Curry was watery and totally lacked flavor. I couldn’t eat it.
Chicken kebab was spot on — juicy. But then again, the rice and the kebab itself… I’ve had better.
Bill for 2 came out over $ 50. Definitely not worth the dollar spent.

I’ve become slightly obsessed with Khyber Pass.
That obsession starts with the Quablili Pallow. A huge lamb shank that has been marinated and slow cooked to literal fall-​off-​the-​bone-​tender consistency. I mean, they serve the lamb buried under a massive pile of baked basmati rice with almond slivers, raisins, and carrots and the lamb just falls apart under there with the slightest poke of the fork. It is a bit on the greasy/​savory side, but that’s what the lemon wedge is there to cut through.
The mantoo are also fantastic. Savory beef dumplings topped with a tangy yoghurt sauce. If I had any criticism of the mantoo, it would be that I wish they were wrapped a bit tighter because they have a tendency to fall apart too easily.
Khyber Pass does tend to get busy, so you’ll probably want to call ahead. Service is a bit slow, but the staff — in particular, the woman at the main counter, who I think is the owner — is also super friendly and personable, and really helped make us Afghan cuisine rookies feel at home. Portion sizes, especially at the prices, are unbelievable.

We came here for the first time recently, and we will definitely be back. In the bay area, there are a lot of middle eastern/​Mediterranean restaurants, but this one really stands out to me because of the great food and customer service. It really has that family feel, and while dining here we felt as if we were treated like family!
The woman who served us, who I believe was part of the family that owns the restaurant, really took care of us. She took time to talk to us, to make sure we were enjoying everything, to ask us how we were, instead of the typical «Hi. are you ready to order? Are you all finished. Here’s the bill.» When we told her it was our first time there, she brought us a complimentary order of hummus and she said, «Here, I want you guys to try this hummus, I made it myself this morning». That really stood out to us, and it was delicious by the way! For my meal, I had the beef koobideh and it was AMAZING– I can’t wait to have it again. My husband ordered the chicken kabob and it was awesome too! We will definitely be back soon.

The Beef Teka Kabob tasted great after we ordered it for pick-​up, and it was so much food that I ate it for 2 meals!

The place was packed but thankfully we had a reservation. The service was sub par, and they forgot about 2 dishes we ordered for a party of 8. If you get seated near the door, prepare yourself because it’s sooooo cold.
The appetizer was delicious (Bolani or something) but they ripped us off with the lamb plates. They substituted beef for one of the lamb pieces thinking we wouldn’t notice. Overall, not worth the trip.

First time here, tried different things and everything was awesome. Service was good and attentive!
They gave us complimentary ice cream.

It was 9 o’clock sharp. Evening. Thai restaurants? Closed. Indian restaurants? Closed. My family and I were desperate for a warm, hearty meal. Luckily, I had my handy Unilocal app which alerted me to Khyber Pass. Elegant, culturally-​appropriate décor garnish this booming dinner spot; the restaurant was populated by locals and Afghans alike — we all knew a tasty meal was in store.
I have little to say other than it was delicious. It outdid my Domino’s Pizza Lunch (sorry Domino’s).
I highly recommend any meal with lamb; it was very tender and beautifully complimented the spinach — A+.

This place was recommended to me from a fellow Unilocal Elite. The inside is well decorated. We decided to sit in the «floor seating» area. I wanted to eat here a couple times before I wrote a review.
They do give you large portions of food. Please see the picture of our food. All the dishes come with salad and bread.
Each time we went we had beef and chicken kabobs. The chicken was extremely flavorful and juicy. However the beef each time was a little overdone and meat was not as tender or juicy as the chicken.
The salad dressing is made in house. It’s actually delicious. I had asked them what it was and they said the owner makes it. Keep in mind it was sugar in it as well — if your eating no sugar or low carb.
Each time there was a long wait however they seemed under staffed as well. Each dish is made to order. Overall the food was good quality and fresh however the beef kabobs were extremely overdone.

Aushak ($ 12.50) — Afghan-​style ravioli with creamy yoghurt sauce. In the mood for pasta served differently? This is your dish!
Chapli Kabob ($ 12.95) — Grilled scandal shaped ground sirloin kabob, prepared with scallions, cilantro and coriander, served with Basmati brown rice. The kabob was cooked perfectly, but I found it a bit too dry for my taste.
Baklava ($ 4.00) — SO GOOD. Probably one of the best baklava I’ve had.
My husband and I came here for one of our date nights. We decided to try new dishes instead of the ones we usually order. I still prefer my favorite go-​to dish here but these dishes aren’t bad either.
Our waitress was quick and always appeared to be a hurry throughout our dining experience. We hope that our experience this night is an exception!

Came here for dinner with my cousin and his roomie. They’ve been here several times and I would be happy to come again. The tables were full when we go in and we could either wait or go and sit sans shoes, Indian-​style on the cushions so of course we sat on the cushions! Gotta go and get the whole experience!
From what I can tell it’s pretty authentic Afghan food! Overall the food was very flavorful but I would have liked the dishes to be spicier. The complimentary pita bread could have been softer and more warm and it was tough to share such a small salad among 3 adults. luckily 2 of use didn’t like eating salads!
Out of the three of us, we had 3 entrees and it was enough food to take home and eat for lunch the next day.
We got the:
— Bolani — which was big but rather flat. I would have preferred a smaller but thicker (with more filling) bolani. The yogurt sauce is standard, nothing special about that.
— Challow kabob beef (Koobidah) — $ 11.50 — Charbroiled ground sirloin, prepared with onions and spices, served with Basmati rice and grill tomato. I thought it was very flavorful but there was a pool of oil and it came with only 2 meatballs. In the end I ate all of the rice that came with the dish and one meatball. took the rest home and the next day I wished I had more rice to eat with the other meatball. Ended up choosing this dish because out of all the non-​cilantro dishes it looked the most appetizing.
— Chapli kabob (beef) — $ 12.95 — Grilled scandal shaped ground sirloin kabob, prepared with scallions, cilantro and coriander, served with Basmati brown rice. It came with two patties of beef, one was not spicy at all and the other one was extremely spicy. The food should be consistent and not from two extremes.
— Quabilee Pallow — $ 14.95 — Afghanistan’s most famous dish, baked brown basmati rice with lamb, delightfully seasoned, topped with raisins, almonds and julienne carrots. It was surprisingly good, I didn’t know that I would be ok with sweet rice, but I can see now why this is Afghanistan’s most famous dish. A must try if it’s your first time eating Afghan food.

Awesome place but gets packed super easily on weekends and for dinners.
Really love coming here; the employee’s seem to be related (family-​owned/​run?) and the servers are always so nice and accommodating though they are almost always rushing around when it’s crazy busy.
Most authentic place you will find in the area that’s for sure. For the month that I lived in Dublin, I ate here on almost a daily basis, craving their lamb kabob plate and everything else they have here. The only thing I could not care for is the pita bread; it’s a bit bland and unattractive to the palate; something more that you pile on the other stuff to use it as a shovel to place the kabobs and rice and that delicious green sauce they always give with the take-​out that smells like cilantro heaven.
Highly recommend coming here and experiencing it yourself; they do have an upper seating area which is super neat and you HAVE to take your shoes off (weird in America but for us Asians it ain’t no thing but a chicken wing) and you get the authentic ambiance along with your meal and for some reason they’re a lot nicer to you when you sit up in this area too strangely enough haha.
I always get the combination plate; the chicken is good; the beef is better and the lamb is to die-​for, it’s that good. Really tasty place and I cannot wait for another excuse to drive out that way since I always like to drop by and taste some more authentic Afghani food!

I fell in love with this place, especially because of the warm welcome and family feel. I arrived before my friends and was immediately served with hummus on the house while I waited. The ambiance makes you feel like you feel outside of the country and into that culture. The walls, the art, the colors, the menus, the music on the background… everything sets the mood for you to enjoy a good Afghan/​Mediterranean mix.
The food was impeccably tasty and served with promptness. The service was friendly, efficient and considerate as we spent over 3 hours (!!!) talking and at no point we felt rushed.
It is difficult to find it as it is located in a hidden space within the Village Square Plaza, but definitely worth it. You can find parking with ease (always a plus!!)
They have an area which you can reserve. It is a no-​shoe zone, you sit on comfortable pillows and enjoy being served amazing food. Definitely a cool idea for a big group.

Located inconspicuously in the Village Square Plaza is a Dublin gem of a restaurant.
They have an Afghan seating room that is beautifully decorated. It features a very colorful roof and ample seating for 12. You sit on cushions (shoes off) with small tables in front of you. Make a reservation for this space.
Bolani Bread — basically a staple must order at this place. Filled with Potato.
Chopan Kabob — one look at the menu, and my eyes were drawn towards the Chopan Kabob, it’s meat, a good portion of meat, and great tasting meat. You won’t be disappointed, and you will be quite full.
Ferni — a dessert that tastes like rice pudding with cardamom spice — a must order…
The food, décor, and service here is great, what’s not to like?! I honestly did not expect such good Afghan food to be located in Dublin and it is definitely one of the better restaurants in the area. I would like to come back again to try their other dishes like the Mantu dumplings or Qabolli pallow.

This place is the rave of Dublin on Unilocal and I had to eventually give it a shot.
It truly is a mom and pop shop with the look and feel. The main dining room can really only fill what seems like 60 people max.
On a Friday night, we still waited like 15 – 20 minutes (even though the waiter told us it would take an hour).
I really liked how the meal came with salad. It’s a nice starter of cucumbers, tomatoes and a light sauce.
I attempted the doogh drink and it was just not my style. It’s a salty drink that tastes like a liquified sauce for the bread.
I did enjoy the mantoo. It was a nice appetizer dumplings with a tad spicy sauce. The skin wasn’t crispy but delicately soft.
I ordered the quabili pallow. It’s a sweet dish of lamb, basmati rice, and raisins. I was expecting the lamb to be tender but it tasted a bit rough. I’m typically a salty tooth, but it was refreshing to have a sweet entrée.
The redeeming factor for this restaurant that i’ll echo from my fellow Unilocalers is the service. The service is attentive, but understandably you do have to be a little pushy with them. There is an unofficial «wait list» and you need to ask/​follow the waiter to the counter to be put on it.
I’ll be returning for my next taste bud adventure.
