Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft

The one in Livermore is bigger and better, FYI. But if you don’t feel like driving there, Dublin is ok. It’s insane on weekends. I wouldn’t even bother. But during the week, I’m able to find everything I need. Sometimes the yarn selection is a little better at Michaels, but you’ll be stuck in line forever. Anyway, great staff and selections. I’m constantly going here for new projects and ideas.

I don’t often post reviews and I would have given the store a much higher review, except for one experience.
I’m not much of a seamstress or crafter, so I’m not all that comfortable going into a store like Joann’s. The last time I was here, maybe a year ago, it was bad overall — low staffed and long waits and unhelpful. I’d heard that it’s much better now, so I went in to pick up some things. It IS much better overall — much more organized and the staff is much more pleasant. The store itself seems cleaner and several staff members were helpful.
BUT — there was one staff member in the sewing machine area, someone said her name was Jean, who was quite rude to me. I was just browsing near the sewing machines, admittedly just curious, and she made me feel totally unwelcome.

If it was possible to do no stars, I would.
I came in this evening with my mom to buy a few mason jars, and waited in line to check out for 20 minutes– which wasn’t a problem at all, I understand they’re always short staffed every single day. But, when I wait that long and go to the register and the woman are so rude, I don’t think that’s acceptable at all. The lady that helped me was so rude, made no conversation, and before I was finished bagging my stuff, already called for the next customer in line.
It’s so sad to see how such a cute store just has the worst customer service. I will try a different location, because I will never be back at this one again.

I enjoy doing arts and crafts a bunchhhhhh when i have the time. But in order to do so, i have to stop by into a arts store ! the closest one to where i am is this Jo-​ann store. Usually they have most of the things i need in stock but I always have a hard time finding something. I recently had started a project for my sister’s surprise engagement proposal. I was in charge of making a Say Yes poster. I had bought the poster board from this store and a couple of fat permanent markers. And i must say, they did NOT have a lot of variety of markers. Most of the posters there were all banged up and dented. How can you still have that out to sell? The one i took home looked like it was fine until i got home and noticed that that one was also damages. Luckily it was only on one side, so i just worked with it.
The staff here aren’t very helpful and i never seem to be able to find anyone working the floor. The only one i can find is the one person at the fabric cutting area but they’re usually helping someone. And the other is the person at the cashier. i would’ve went to hobby lobby across the street but i somehow always want to do craft work on a sunday. and they’re not open on sundays.

This is my first negative Unilocal review ever, so it really says something that the service was bad enough here to warrant it.
Okay, I understand that (especially with customers armed with coupons), your service might be slow, but to wait in line 22 minutes to get one piece of fabric cut with only 5 people ahead of me and 3 different attendants, it’s absurd. They do a number system (pull a number, wait for it to be called, step up to the cutting counter), but were not diligent about keeping it up to date. So, a number would be called, that person would step up, but the display number didn’t get changed to the next. The next attendant would call the same number, and then WAIT for someone to show up… make an intercom announcement… and wait more. Meanwhile, the attendant right next to them was already helping that person.
When it finally WAS my number, the attendant, Chris, thought there was already an identical bolt of fabric on the shelves that was open — the one I had given him was new from a different location in the store. After waiting 22 minutes, I then had to wait for him to look up the location of the old fabric bolt and then go with him to get it. When he got there, he noticed all the bolts in that area were completely in disarray (the organization in the store is a different story), so straightened them out FIRST before he found the fabric he was looking for. Another 4 minutes. We went back to the counter only to find that the older bolt didn’t have enough for the quantity I needed, so he opened the original one for me. No apology for the extra time, no smile, no real customer service.
I’m not really one to recount experiences like this, but it was just so, so frustrating. Until there are more reviews here about their improved efficiency, I won’t be going back.

I braved the East Bay traffic last Saturday to get a pattern from Jo-Ann’s. I lived and shopped Dublin for 30+ years and this store has never been stellar however you could usually find what you needed. On Saturday I found the pattern I wanted but they only had a size large and I needed a small. I asked a sales clerk and her response was, «unfortunately if the pattern isn’t in the drawer, we don’t have it.» Could you possibly have one in back? «Unfortunately, no.» Will you be getting any more in? «Unfortunately (take a guess what word this sales clerk really likes to use) we have no idea what they will ship us from week to week.» Well, could you order me one? «Unfortunately no, but you can go on-​line and order it.»
So, home I went, but I didn’t go to Jo-Ann’s on-​line (why reward them for poor service). I logged onto the Butterick site and even paying shipping the pattern is costing me $ 7 LESS!
I try to support brick and mortar stores, but when the store does NOTHING to make shopping a good experience, I give up and log on.

. That’s what the cashier told me to do. She was very nice. Staffs are very helpful. The whole shopping experience at this store by far Is making my crafting hobby a little more interesting and fun. Will continue to visit this store again, for sure!

Came here during the week around 1:30pm it was rediculously crazy at the cut counter. There were 10 people waiting to be helped and only one person available to help. I pulled a number immediately when I walked in and shopped around for my materials. About 40 min later I had everything I needed. By that time, there were only 2 people ahead of me and another worker came to help shortly after so it went by fairly quick. Everyone waiting looked pissed and upset that there was only 1 person working at the cut counter.
After I got my materials I went to purchase them and waited in another line. The cashiers are always great about asking if you have coupons and scanning them all to see if they will apply.
Management needs to schedule or hire more people to work. Every time I visit a Joanne’s, it seems to take forever at the cut counter. Especially during holiday season.

Otherwise the experience was horrible we were picking up fleece fabric to make blankets for the homeless… Manager was condescending and rude! We were there for 2 hours and the manager refused to give us our 25% coupon we brought and when looking up 20% coupon online the manager considered it invalid as well and finally when we tried to use our student discount 10% she refused as well as its considered a door buster. Overall spent over $ 300 and did not get any discounts as stated before the fabric was a door buster.
WHAT IS A DOORBUSTER

This place has the worst customer service. Joanns stores in general have never been the best but this one takes the cake. I have been in several times and I rarely make it out in under an hour. Not bc it takes me long to find what I need but bc the employees take forever to cut fabric and ring up customers. They chit chat about personal things and televisions shows half the time instead of working. They are often rude and not very helpful. I wish there was another fabric store option nearby but this is my only choice.

I have yet to have a good experience with this Jo Ann location. Very disorganized.
My first time in, there was a 15-​person line for fabric cutting.
Recently, I called to see if they carried an item my local Livermore store didn’t have. Each time they put my on hold, a new person answered and I had to explain myself all over again (this happened THREE times). It was like they were purposefully avoiding helping me.
I’m glad I live so close to the (far better) Livermore location but even if I didn’t, it’d be worth the drive to avoid this store.

This is definitely just your average JoAnn’s store. Unorganized and chaotic, but still boasts one of the largest fabric and craft selections in addition to regular coupons that help bring your DIY needs to a minimal cost. I was able to pick up 3.5 yards of plain burlap for a simple table runner for about $ 14, but the downside is that it took me almost an hour for everything. Half an hour to wait for someone to cut my fabric (with a bad attitude I might add), and another half an hour for someone to help me check out! Also with a bad attitude… Although their personnel definitely needs a lesson in customer service, I’ll still come here to pick up my DIY goodies, but next time with an extra hour or two for cushion!

The lines here are always horrendous (currently 14 people waiting in line to pay and one poor girl on the register!) and they never have what I’m looking for. I come here for the convenience, and occasional good deals on patterns, but I think I’ll just travel the distance and go somewhere else from now on! The staff are also not the friendliest, and often don’t even know where to find items in the store when I ask!

For a store run by women, pretty much for women… this store is disgusting. The whole place reminds me of a teenagers bedroom.
It is totally cluttered, things are all over the place. It looks like an outlet store in the sense that things are out of stock, and damaged.
They are not going by the corporate guidelines on how fabric should be displayed or treated (by using finished pattern samples to display fabric) I just saw a bunch of dress forms with fabric tied around them. Seriously? This isn’t the hood.
Omg, and the bathrooms. I’ve seen cleaner bathrooms in truckstops. Women’s bathrooms. Absolutely disgusting. The people who work here and manage the store obviously don’t give shizzle what happens to this place.
It’s a shame too. Dublin seems to have a lot of retail, and most of it is new. This store can’t be that old, so why it is such a crap hole is beyond me. I just moved here, and I hope there is somewhere else to shop around this area.

I enjoy going to their baking section.
For our recent visit, I was looking for a plain white shirt for my toddler. I asked for some help because all I could find were adult shirts. The customer service rep walked me to the exact location of where the kids shirts were placed.
I think because it was the end of the day, so the kids section was a bit messy and there were selections that were empty and we’re not restocked.

Needed some fabric to cover a couple of our chairs and this place had a similar material for a reasonable price. The guy cutting the fabric did a good job for us. Glad they have places like this with many choices of fabrics.
Maybe I’ll take up sewing when I retire and come here more often.

This has a great selection, but their customer service is terrible. I don’t sew so this place is foreign to me.
The assistants never smile and seem they don’t like being there. When I asked for help locating a button the lady pointed and said «it’s way over there on the other side.»… Really?.. you are no help at all. A chimp is smarter than you.
I asked where the rulers were and the sewing machine attended looked up like I was bothering her doodling.
Then the cashier. AN EMPLOYEE… who works at a fabric store doesn’t even know what a millimeter is? Isn’t fabric measured inches, cm etc?
Oh my gosh!!! Awful.

Awful customer service. I had to make a quick return and had all my kids in tow; my quick return ended up being 45 minutes. The cashier gal was all frazzled because no management was responding to her calls and asked if she could go ahead and ring up other guests while I awkwardly wait on the side with all my kids for someone to come. After 5 minutes, it was clear no one was coming. Such unprofessional management. It’s unbelievable how inconsiderate these people are. The woman that did eventually help me at the fabric counter huffed & puffed sighs of being inconvenienced by doing so. Hello?! If you don’t like working there or don’t like people, then quit. This location is in hokey old Dub, and the staff hired to work there is a total reflection of that.

I’m not a craftsy person, so don’t have a huge number of places to compare but in the few I do, I can say I’ve experienced better than my visit to Jo-​Ann Fabric
Looking for an insert for a dress that was too small, I asked the 1^st person we came upon where we could find some material to match. We were misdirected to «where the pink is»…but this area was filled w/​bolts of felt & fleecy-​like fabric & I’m looking for a navy polyester
Finally walk around & see what will be the closest to what I’m needing so we then head over to the cutting table & take our number
With 3 other employees sitting at an info table & the row of sewing machines, at no time does anyone offer to come help while the lady in front of me is getting something like 20 bolts cut for various projects… instead, they spend their time just staring at us
When it is finally my turn, I tell the lady what I need the fabric for but she couldn’t help me estimate how much I’d need for the task… I guess I just figured there would be some expertise & ability to provide guidance like I’ve found in other stores… not here
Then she asks ME if I’m a sewer b/​c they’re always getting requests for alterations people… if I just asked YOU for advice about how much material I need, this might be a good indicator that I know absolutely *nothing* about sewing… just saying
When I finally get whatever amount cut & go up to the registers, the original lady (who misdirected me) sees me & directs me all the way around the store to enter the «proper» register line — while the person at the register is standing right in front of me & there is no one else around — weird! God forbid I just go right up to her!
For my next material need — ’cause I’m sure there will be a next time — I’ll surely be looking elsewhere

The reviews are CORRECT! The staff here is RUDE! The store was a MESS today! I’ve been in this store twice, BOTH times I’ve been YELLED at by employees here! Unprofessional jerks! Oh, and if my hand is out when you are giving me my receipt, put it in my HAND! Don’t SLAM it on the counter! Rude!!!
