H & H Pool Service

Terrible customer service, and this is regarding the owner (David) himself.
Employs an «it’s fine!» attitude about potentially dangerous problems.

Really rude!!! Lynette must have got up on wrong side of bed today. Asked a simple question and got hung up on. We get full service and our filter pump was full of pine needles and burned out. Great another $ 500 to repair. The whole point of monthly service is so this does not happen. If you want unpleasant customer service with a condescending attitude call these guys and ask for Lynette. I still don’t know why I paid $ 140 per month for weekly service and have a filter pump full pine needles.

After using H&H Pool for over 6 years, I felt compelled to write a review today. There are only a handful of truly caring companies that I have worked with over the years, that provide the same high level of service on year six, as they did on year one. H&H is one of those fine companies.
We were recently worried that we were going to have a very expensive repair when the pool pump and remote were not working, and the control panel showed «SERVICE». The thought of potentially having to replace the main pool pump was giving us heartburn. But today, David came out, diagnosed the problem as a bad remote relay board and replaced it, under warranty. (The remote and receiver were only a few months old.) WOOHOO! We couldn’t ask for a better outcome.
But it’s not just the repair service that deserves recognition, it’s the maintenance teams (the weekly cleaning and chemical guy, the filter cleaner, and even the billing folks.) In all the time we’ve used H&H, we’ve never had to make a panicked call right before a party or weekend because our pool was cloudy. The entire H&H team keeps our pool sparkling clean and provides us with a worry free pool. And best of all, they return calls quickly, respond to emails in a timely manner, and are easy to work with.

I was considering putting an offer on a house that would need monstrous amounts of repairs, especially for the pool, so I called around for a pool repair bid to get a handle on what I’d be looking at. Three East Bay pool companies declined to speak with me unless I made an appointment for a professional estimate. Now, I realize each job is unique but didn’t have time to meet various companies at the property to get a detailed idea what I was looking at — I was just looking for a ball park figure for patching and re-​surfacing a standard 20′ x 30′ pool.
Paulette at H&H was the first one to take the time to speak with me. She listened as I described the problems with the pool, and offered concrete suggestions for repair. She clearly knows her stuff, and brought up issues I hadn’t even considered in relation to the pool. For example, as the home would be a rental, she suggested I consider removing the diving board as it could be a huge liability (or why pools are no longer installed with boards). And mentioned the longer a pool is left empty, the more damage is done to it (who knows how long this one had been sitting empty — it was a short sale).
Also, as H&H doesn’t do the extensive resurfacing I was looking for, she gamely referred me to an established and large pool resurfacing company near me which could meet all my repair needs, then H&H could help me set up and maintain the pool. Finally, when I wondered out loud if perhaps I should just remove the pool, instead of trying to talk me into keeping it (and maybe gain a future maintenance customer), she helpfully provided the name of a pool removal company and even ball parked the average removal cost (around $ 15K).
H&H (and Paulette in particular) put my needs (info re: repair scenarios and basic costs — even those which might lead to a pool removal) before their own (gaining a regular service client). Now that’s an ethical and customer-​oriented company. You don’t find one of these every day, so when you do, it’s good to hold onto them.
I ended up passing on that property, but am still looking. And if my future home includes a pool, H&H will definitely be my choice for maintenance service. Thanks Paulette!

I was surprised to see the negative reviews for H&H pool service. We have been using them for the past 3 years without any complaint. We purchased a home with a pool and had no idea how to maintain it. H&H comes once per week and takes care of everything. There is no hassle ever and they are incredibly reliable. We have had a couple of pool «emergencies» and although you do have to leave a message, they handled the emergencies in a reasonable and timely manner. I would recommend them.

After we put in a new pool in 2006, the pool company recommended H&H Pools to us for service. We have used them for the past seven years and have been very pleased with all their services. We haven’t had to lift a finger ourselves to maintain the pool in great order; they have done everything. When any problem has been reported to them, we have had immediate response. For the past two years, we have lived in another state, and H&H Pools has continued to handle maintenance, repairs, service and billing in a most professional and convenient manner. I just wish they were in the state where we now live!

I switched to H&H Pool Services after going through 3 other pool service companies over the past 3 years. My neighbor’s pool service guy actually recommended them as he was too busy and couldn’t take on any more new accounts. (What a great place to be in!) Paulette from H&H was very informative and incredibly professional. She walked me through the different levels of service they offered and did not pressure me one bit, as I told her I was shopping around. After doing my research, I decided to go with them based on the fact that they’ve been in business for over 30 years. They understand what customer service is. As far as the other reviews for them here on Unilocal,I offer this: when hiring someone, especially a contractor, it’s up to you to interview them and ask all of the pertinent questions for things that matter to you. Don’t complain about your previous pool service. Ask questions like «How do you handle situations where you’re running behind or have to change my service date? and «How often should I REALLY be cleaning out my filter cartridge?» I got honest and direct answers to my questions and I felt comfortable with them. I’m going on my third month of service and my pool has never looked this good!

I called about 1.5 months ago asking them to replace my pool pump. They said they were booked 2 weeks out but can come out to do a pre-​inspection. 3 times, that we booked a time, they did not show up. Then they showed up one day without notice and said I wasn’t home without letting me know. It’s been 3 week now. I have not heard from Dave or Lynette and they do not return phone calls or emails. Very poor customer service, response. I gave them plenty of chances. Go somewhere else.

Extremely bad service.
They are nice to you initially, just to have you sign up for their service.
After that, they ignore your phone calls and are very rude — especially the repair guys.
Stay away from these guys.

They were great during the sales phase. They came recommended by another local business and, at first, we could see why. And then we went from a prospect to a client. Reaching a person isn’t a problem– the problem is reaching a person who can do something for you and getting a returned call.
We are new to pool ownership so I’m sure we ask more questions than others– but that feels like the cost of doing business for someone in the pool business. And one of those questions was «why is all the water draining out of my pool.» Silence from the other end until we called the 24 hour number. Finally we hear back with an update.
Nobody likes to be a bother but you are paying them and so it would be nice if they were at least somewhat responsive. I’ll only keep the 2 stars in there because they seem to show up weekly and do their thing. But I cannot recommend them to anyone who likes any level of customer service.

Was looking for a pool company
They were great at returning my email & great to set up an appointment.
Apparently they are AWFUL at using the telephone to let you know they are behind, short people or whatever else has come up. Today they were scheduled between 8:30 — 9:30 am, to avoid any cause for delay. I wanted to be the 1^st costomer of the day. NO show. Phone call just came in at 11:59am, last week scheduled between 2 – 4, at 5pm I had to call them. No reason at all for the phone not being used!
