Edge Gymnastics Training Center

Poor management and operations. We have supported this place by placing my 2 girls through various programs for 3 years while gingerly maneuvering their poor management and attitudes. My final take away is they just want your money and don’t care about the kids. Shame.

Nice place to get fit…

One teacher approved that my daughter can register on Advance Intermediate level, but Coach Christina seems hate my daughter, she withdrew us from class without notice (My phone does not show any record that she called me). saying she needs to re-​evaluate us again. My daughter was frustrated and try to convince her, But Coach Christina tell her in front of me: «If you don’t want to continue, you can stop». The worst teacher is to let her students lost interest.

We have been going here off an on since my kids were very young. It’s been at least 3 years. My daughter is now in beginning gymnastics and I have to say it is a little of a crap shoot with the starter classes depending on which instructor you get. All the instructors are super young and might be great gymnasts, but it doesn’t know that they know how to teach. Half the time my daughter’s current instructor looks bored and is yawning. There seems to be a fairly large turn over also as in the last three sessions my daughter has had 4 instructors. The one we liked the best she had the shortest amount of time. My daughter is struggling with two skills to get to the next level and it is frustrating to watch the haphazard way the instructor works on them. Now my daughter’s cartwheel has inadvertently looks more like a round off and the instructor continues to let her practice it incorrectly without any instruction or feedback. My daughter loves gymnastics and is having fun and I try to tell myself that is all that matters, but at some point she will realize her friends have all moved up and she hasn’t. I just feel the instructors need to take classes on how to teach, being engaging, pwhat to do when kids get stuck when Plan A is not working.

My 7 yo daughter has been attending Edge for a year now. Miss Kara and Mr AJ are wonderful teachers. The ladies at the desk are very pleasant and informative. There’s plenty of seating and parking is ok. I’m not a big fan of the bathroom but I rarely use it.
Overall, we’ve had a good experiece!

Love this gym! We’ve taken classes, gone to open kindergym and had birthday parties there. We’ve been happy with everything and the staff are great.

Just from the occasional open gym hour attendant perspective, it’s pretty nice! Large facility, attentive/​friendly staff, and fun equipment. I schedule playgroup meetups with my IHMC subgroup during their Friday open gym hour. Kids 5 & under run amuck and use all the equipment for $ 8 per kid. It’s a great way to tire them out before lunch, especially during the summer. They also have an open gym time for older kids… info on their website.

My 10 year old daughter has been attending Edge for 1.5 years. Our favorite teachers are Christine, Brandon and Chey. Apart from the uncomfortable seating and the sometimes apathetic service from the people in reception, this is a GREAT place for your child to get some true gymnastic skills. We came over from SRVDA and it was like night and day (they have since retired their gym program and focus on dance only, which I would recommend them highly for). I wish I had started her here when she was younger.

My kids have gone here for the last several years and they LOVE IT. The teachers are very enthusiastic and the kids seem to thrive in this environment. We have it on automatic renewal; no complaints at all here!

My kids and I attended a child’s birthday party at The Edge. At this party, Alyssa was one of the party assistants. My daughter had so much fun, she wanted to have her birthday at The Edge as well. When I told my friend this, she said Alyssa is one of the best assistants because of her great interaction with kids. So, I did book my daughter’s birthday there (booked it 2 months before her birthday).
At the time of booking, I requested Alyssa work the party, and, because of our experience with her before, I saw for myself how engaging she is with young children — really caring and involved. I was told Alyssa was available, and that I should expect someone from The Edge to call me the week of the party to confirm all the details. When that call came, I was then told that Alyssa was no longer available to work my child’s birthday and that she was in fact «not available at all that weekend».
At my daughter’s party on Saturday, the two women who assisted (Britney & Lauren) were fine. No big complaints. By sheer coincidence, my kids and I were at The Edge the very next day, for another child’s party, and who should be assisting that party but Alyssa! Yes, the same Alyssa I was told was «not available at all that weekend»! I have to admit I felt disillusioned, saddened and angry that I was in essence lied to. I would have been much more understanding if I had been told Alyssa would not be working my child’s party, but to be told she was «not available at all that weekend» and then see her the very next day angered me enough to make me write a review. My child is not a member of The Edge, but the child who had a party the next day after ours is a member. Thus, I have to conclude that this facility treats non-​members as second class citizens.
The Edge should look into better training/​coaching of their staff in how to interact with clients. I think that would have avoided the situation I experienced.
ETA: The Edge called to get feedback regarding our experience with them as party facilitators and I complimented our assistants but but frank about my disillusionment over the Alyssa situation. I was told The Edge was short staffed on Sunday and Alyssa was pulled in to work the Sunday party even though she wasn’t supposed to. That doesn’t completely mollify me, but The Edge did profusely apologize.

Best gym! Best coaches! Best gymnasts! Believe the hype!

I took my daughter here for open gym today and won’t be back. The facility was not clean there was a bucket with dirty water on the floor for some reason, and a pile of water bottles by the balance beam. Also, open gym is for 0 – 5, an age range that can be together fine as long as there’s safety rules and good supervision. A little boy pushed my daughter down and then later I saw him playing roughly with another much younger child. I told the woman at the desk that he was being unsafe and didn’t seem to have a parent supervising. Her response was «why didn’t you tell one of the ladies over there». Ugh

I had my two girls in their program on and off for over a year. In that time, I saw little if any improvement in their skills. To be fair, neither of my kids are gym whizzes, but I expected their basic skills to improve. Edge is much more into their competitive teams so that my girls groups were constantly moved around the gym to whatever apparatus the competitive teams were not using (read: they did a lot of walking and basic tumbling on mats). The icing on the cake was when my youngest (age 5) got put in a class with about 10 other young girls with a teacher that could not have been older than 15. She could not manage the class, and my daughter was constantly vying for attention. It was hard to watch. When her «report card» came at the end of the 6 weeks (!) to the tune of $ 22 per class (!), the ONLY comment from this inexperienced teenage «teacher» was that my daughter could improve her listening skills. DUH. My girls are just 6 weeks into classes at Diablo now and they can actually do a complete handstand and hold it, a complete back bend or «bridge», and a clean cartwheel! So much happier! My oldest is moving on to the next level and is thrilled.

My daughter, age 7 was enrolled for a year. On 5÷5÷14, she was on the high beam, when she fell down and injured her hand. The instructor gave her an ice pack and asked her whether she could find her way outside. She made no effort to help her get to the front desk, where they could have helped her locate her parent. My daughter tried to locate me on her own.
Luckily I was sitting on the bleachers on the far side of the gym and it was clear to me that she was in pain. There was an obstacle blocking the exit and I had to help her get over it.
I went over to the front desk to see if the ladies over there could help me splint her arm. I asked for a splint. They did not have one. I asked for a magazine. The lady who assisted me was nice enough to hand me two Bay Area Parent magazines and tape up her arm with office tape. I have nothing against her.
Is it not the responsibility of the teacher to ensure that her student is escorted safely to her parent or the front desk? If the teacher cannot leave her other students, then it is her responsibility to call for another person to help the child.
Is it not the responsibility of Edge Gymnastics to have a First Aid kit (beyond the free Bay Area Parent magazines) on hand and a trained First Aider on site, when there is a high risk of injury? Management tells me that Red Cross prefers them to use a magazine as a splint. But then there should be a magazine in their First Aid kit. What if there were no Bay Area Parent magazines that day, would the office lady have to scramble around for one? Their First Aid is dependent on those magazines.
My older girl who was in class after the younger one left, confirmed what the younger one said, that the instructor never asked the girls to gather around so that they could help the injured. The injury was confirmed as a fracture by Urgent Care. I pulled out my girls because of safety concerns and also because I do not trust Edge to look after my girls on the floor.
I am disappointed in the way the whole thing was handled since I would have thought that there would be more concern for our kids, when we hand them over to them for an hour every week. This is the second time I have had an issue at Edge. Last year I had to complain about an instructor, whom I saw talking on the phone two weeks in a row.
My girls fees were refunded but I had to forfeit the annual fees (non refundable of course) which I had paid just a couple of months back.

Enrolled my kids here for the summer so they can stay active… so far very pleased with the classes. They are learning how to move their bodies better and maintain better posture, and the kids love it!
one thing i noticed: beginning class kids can use a bit more individual attention to get started, as they don’t really know the routine yet.

I brought my daughters here. Not very impressed. My oldest daughter has attended gymnastics back in IL and this place evaluated her and said she was begginer, even though she has two yrs experience. My younger daughter did a free trial class and it was run by some teenagers who were chatting and not really paying attention.
The place was clean, lighted and vented. The ladies at the desk were friendly.

My 9 year old has been taking classes here for a few years and loving every minute of it. We have been happy with the staff, the pace of training, and the times classes are offered. And it’s a pretty fun place for a birthday party if you have an active child. We are very casual gymnasts — not looking for a competitive path — just a place for our very flexible kid to learn some technique and safety tips as she bends, flips, jumps, climbs, and swings her way thru life. Others will have to tell you about the competitive programs at Edge.

Impressive facility! We had a bit of a hassle getting someone to call us back regarding private coaching, so we signed up for a summer class instead. So far, so good and fingers crossed.

My two nieces and their best friend are learning to do gymnastics at the Edge Gymnastics Training Center. I’ve had the opportunity to watch their private and semiprivate lessons several times now, though I haven’t yet watched one of their group classes. All three girls enjoy learning gymnastics and like their instructors here. According to my sister-​in-​law, «Edge Gymnastics is a no nonsense gym. If you come here your kid is going to learn gymnastics.»
And that’s what my nieces have come are here to do — learn gymnastics. They take weekly group classes and private and semi-​private lessons every week. They are young and just starting out, not yet at a level where they would qualify for one of competitive teams, of which this gym has several. Their private lesson instructor, Mr. Vasili, teaches them discipline as he teaches them the techniques they will need to learn to progress in the sport. He runs a tight ship, but the girls enjoy their sessions with him too. Even the two first graders know that when they arrive they are responsible to find the sheets that track their lessons and progress from the files and start to stretch out on their own while waiting for their lesson to begin. They are very independent and do not need help from us to check in and get prepared.
There is an area off to the side where parents can sit on bleachers or hard plastic chairs (bring a cushion) and watch /​wait for their children during their lessons. There is free wifi which is accessed with a posted password. There are vending machines for drinks and snacks, though I’d love to see a few healthier options available in them. On this last visit it was over a hundred degrees outside and the air conditioner inside was not doing a great job keeping up with the unseasonably hot weather, but my sister-​in-​law assures me that it maintains a very comfortable atmosphere with the normal weather variations.
There is a small pro-​shop with gymnastic sportswear that would do fine in a pinch, but tends to be a little on the expensive side.

My 3 and 5 year old have started coming to Edge after trying out another local gymnastics studio and being very disappointed.
I’m very happy with the low teacher to student ration in the pre-​school classes, 6:1. I also like that the instructors are close by at all times and instead of doing large circuits with tons of stations they’ll do a circuit with 2 stations and then move on on to another circuit with 2 – 3 stations.
I feel like my children are getting great exercise and learning how to control and be aware of their bodies.
We’re very happy here!
