At Twisted X Brewing Company, it’s simple; we love craft beer as much as the Lone Star State! We specialize in creating handmade Texan-​American beers that are made with high-​quality, local products. Our passion to make great beer has led to us inventing Tex Mex Beer™, which combines Texas craft beer with Mexican-​style spirit and flavor.

Our mission is to have fun, treat people right, and bring something new to our local market through beer. We’re passionate about combining hops, grains, yeast, and water into your glass to create something unique that we’re really proud of and that you will enjoy and share with your friends and family.

There are many people out there who find one beer they like and are too afraid of the unknown and never branch out. This is where Twisted X comes in. Our Tex Mex Beer™ began with the goal of educating people on how different ingredients can make complex beers that will make you rethink how you view beer. Our team of brewers come from diverse backgrounds, but they all share the love of great beer and bring their own unique recipes and ideas to the table. We have maintained the 3 barrel brewing system that Tex Mex Beer™ was founded on to allow our brewers to create small batch beers that capture the types and styles of beer they love.

History

Established in 2009.

Jim Sampson and Shane Bordeau have been brewing beer for a long time and decided to launch a brewery that specialized in brewing Mexican style beers brewed in Texas. They knew they wanted to be the first to market with Tex Mex Beer™ and they bought an initial 10 gallon pilot system in September of 2009. This system allowed for testing and consistent production and the first few recipes were born.

After upgrading the brew house in Cedar Park, Twisted X Brewing Company released three types of «small batch» brews. They launched with Twisted X, Cow Creek, and Fuego. As brewery operations expanded, they added Chupahopra and a couple of seasonal beers: Siesta and Señor Viejo.

Ted Stewart came on board 2012 and helped ramp up expansion and relocated to a 10,000 square foot brewery and tasting room in Dripping Springs, Texas in November 2013. You can find Twisted X in your local stores all around the great state of Texas.

Business Owner

Jim is not from Texas — he’s an Iowa boy, but he has always loved beer and developed a special fondness for Mexican lagers after he arrived in Texas. Jim began brewing beer in the late 1990’s on a small homebrew system. After the software company he worked for was acquired in 2009, he decided to make his hobby into his full time job and purchased a 10 gallon brewing system. He partnered with a fellow beer lover, Shane Bordeau, and rented warehouse space in Cedar Park where Twisted X Brewing Company was born. Soon they were brewing four main beers and a couple of seasonals and selling every drop they made to local bars. Jim decided to take the leap and expand. He wanted to build a business he could be proud of and pass onto his son someday. Twisted X Brewing Company moved into a newly built facility in Dripping Springs in November 2013 and has increased brewing capacity exponentially. The small batch system moved, too, and is now used to create small batches for the tasting room only.
