DENTIST — is a nasty, dirty, scary 7 letter word to so many people! I’ve seen the mere mention of «dentist» send so many people into a 302-​able episodes with recounts of the horrors of their childhood dentist, their first root canal and auditory hallucinations of the dreaded drill. Clearly, these people don’t go to to my dentist … Dr. John Newland.
Back in 2007 – 2008, I was uninsured, as I had recently turned 25 and was still enrolled in law school. I made the silly (aka stupid) decision to forego my dentist appointments for about a year and a half. When I was in my first year of practice as an attorney, I went out of town for a training, and after snacking on Twizzlers and other sugary delights during the roadtrip, I had a terrible toothache, that turned into a terrible toothache + headache that limited me to eating oatmeal and soup for the duration of my trip.
That was it — I needed to make an appointment with a dentist ASAP. I didn’t want to go back to my old dentist (with the proverbial tail between the legs) after a near 2 year dental hiatus. Despite the fact that I lived and worked in the city, off of the strength of my mother’s recommendation, I tried Dr. Newland!
Yes, there was lots o’ work to be done in this mouth — but Dr. Newland and his team handled it. I’ve now been an «every six month» patient since the summer of 2009 and for the first time since I can remember, I have been cavity free! In addition to doing great work, Dr. Newland is always up on his current events, including the latest reality shows — for that alone, he gets an A+ in my book!
He and his staff are also very interactive and caring … they always seem to remember and ask questions about the new job, recent wedding, summer trip, change of address, etc! I actually look forward to my appointments, next visit: 12÷19÷13!
