Love this establishment especially since it’s closer to me than other locations. I still haven’t had everything over the course of 11 years but I’m 95% satisfied. Tuna, turkey, or egg croissant. Rellenitos and croquettes. Steak torta with black beans, guacamole, lettuce, tomato and cheese. Dulce de leche mille feuille is like banana pudding. I could go on and on but these are my top picks. Glad to know locations will be opening up in the Covina and Anaheim areas and another one I forgot where though. Big plus — management stays out on the Main floor. A pleasure to talk to. Wasn’t expecting him to have so much to say!

I’m extremely happy to see that Porto’s is expanding and continues to maintain it ‘s great quality and prices! I’ve only tried a few things here, but love everything I’ve tried so far. For starters, the breakfast croissant with egg and guacamole is a winner. I love eggs and love guacamole so this is the perfect mix. Initially, I was worried that the guacamole might be a bit much during breakfast hour, but luckily the guacamole in this sandwich is very mild and clearly consists of mostly avocados. It’s been a few days since I had this sandwich, and I’m still craving it. I’m sure you’ve already heard about the famous guava pastries. But, i’ll just reiterate that they are AMAZING. With cheese or without, they are both good. It just comes down to a personal preference. They are pretty self explanatory: guava + pastry, and are a MUSTTRY. Luckily, they have reserved some parking spots on the side of and behind the building, and the line inside the restaurant goes pretty fast. Great for a quick pit stop!

Expect to spend time finding parking and then waiting in lines.(They have Valet parking! I think it was less than $ 5, we didn’t see it until we found our own parking) It’s worth the trouble though, the lines move fairly quickly and the prices are decent. This location is the 2nd one we’ve tried, they seem to be pretty consistent. My faves are potato balls(I think I prefer the minis?), cheese rolls, and guava cheese pastries. And the tres leche cake(I like the mini).

I looooove porto’s!!! I’ve tried the Burbank one first and the Downey one is consistent as well. My favorites: –potato balls –cheese rolls –guava cheese strudels –dulce de leche kisses(surprisingly not sweet!) –cubano sandwich The line is always super long but it moves fast :) However parking can be frustrating because it’s packed but people come and go so it should be fine.

The place is huge. There is alley parking on the side and a parking structure behind. It’s always busy but the wait isn’t so bad and it goes by pretty fast. I love love love their cheese rolls! 75 cents for each. I also tried their guava cheese pastries. So delicious and will be back for more ! Service here is wonderful and they are very patient when it comes to you telling them what you want to order. Every time I’m up north, I always stop pick to pick up a dozen or two.

My local south California friend recommended me this place and I am so amazed! I want to eat everything. Their customer service is pretty good and they let you have full size samples! The line was long for a Friday morning, but it moves fast and worth the wait. We sampled the guava/cheese rolls, cheese rolls and the potato ball. They were all great! I will go again for sure and wish I could move them to Texas!

My favorite bakery. A trip to SoCal requires that we make a stop at Porto’s before heading home. We always go to this location because it’s most convenient. Favorites: Cheese rolls, guava and cheese strudels, spinach and feta croissants, dulce de leche kisses, meat pies, potato balls, chicken croquettes, plantain chips, cubano sandwich. Lots of parking. There can be a lot of people, depending on the day and time you go, but the line goes by fairly quick.

For quite some time, I have driven past Porto’s Bakery and wondered why the line was always so long. Several of my coworkers kept raving about this place but I had no idea what they were talking about. Apparently, people have been hooked on Porto’s for a long time yet somehow, I was still unfamiliar with this bakery(until last night)! Soon, I was about to find out why that long line was ever-present on a daily basis! Porto’s is located on the corner of Downey Avenue and Firestone Blvd. There is a multi-level parking garage just behind the building and security to ensure that your vehicle is safe. The modern décor both inside and outside of Porto’s is very easy on the eyes! It is enough to reel in curious onlookers. Plus, it stands out like a sore thumb when compared to the older buildings within surrounding area. When we walked inside, I was a bit overwhelmed with the layout. It’s not that it was confusing but you had three lines to choose from: bakery, pre-ordered cakes, and another line for pastries that may have also been for pre-orders. You’ve got to pick your line quick because the constant flow of customers is what causes those lines to be so long. We headed toward the pastry/bakery section and then the smell of sweet delights filled the air. I felt like a cartoon character floating toward the goodies yet somehow this was for real! So many types of breads were on display and then I realized that I had to have some will-power when it was time to select an item. The pastries within the glass case seemed never-ending but it was those eye-catching cakes that seemed to garner the most attention. They are so beautiful and you wouldn’t want to cut into a work of art like that but someone has to do it! In the end I chose something simple, a lone piece of sweet bread. It was reminiscent of pan dulce with sugar sprinkled on top. It was a decent size at the price of $ 0.85 which isn’t bad when compared to the price of a donut. It was light and fluffy with a slight amount of moisture inside. I have also sampled their cupcakes and those are pretty tasty as well. Their frosting is very light and not thick like store-bought popular brands. The cakes have the perfect amount of flavor so that you don’t feel like they just loaded it up with sugar. It is obvious that they are freshly made every morning and nothing is placed on the shelves days later. Locals truly realize how lucky they are to have Porto’s in their neighborhood. It has been a blessing to have this location closer to home so that we don’t have to commute to the valley. Clearly the fanfare surrounding Porto’s is genuine and it’s definitely not overrated. Now I see why so many people have positive things to say about this place. It’s more than a bakery, it’s a booming business that seeks to improve its product as they offer the best pastries in town. You won’t be disappointed with Porto’s as it really does live up to the hype! It’s totally awesome!!!

So, I walk into my office this morning with a special yellow box. At my previous offices, they all knew what the yellow box was. Unfortunately, this was the one office that did not know what it was. There are usually two things in a yellow box that can always be the news of the day. Either Potato Balls or Cheese Rolls. If you don’t know this landmark bakery, then you might want to head on over right now. Grab some sweet treats at Porto’s Bakery & Café in Downey. Ever since I moved to Orange County, Porto’s is the one place that I did miss. I’ve frequented to Burbank many times, but always heard of the Downey and the Glendale location. The Downey location is on the northwest corner Firestone Blvd and Downey Ave. I don’t think you can miss this spot because of its modern architecture and, more noticeably, the people waiting in line both inside and outside. This is the one place people like to be in line. There are two parking structures behind Porto’s. However, I suggest using the bigger parking structure next to the movie theatre. There is more room to navigate and less time to get in and out. The beautiful layout of the Downey Porto’s is amazing. Compare to Burbank, there is a lot of transparency. You can see through the windows before you walk in. It can both be a great marketing campaign to get in those doors and wonderful place to place some orders for sweet treats. There is a beautiful water display with a kid statue playing around it. As you walk in the sliding glass stores, you enter a world of INTENSE energy. People ordering left and right. There are two sections to Porto’s Café. To the left is the café. You can order sandwiches and meals to eat. To the right is the most dangerous thing in the store: THEPASTRIES! Its like the Blue or Red Pill: Which side do you choose?! There is one additional area in the far right side for cake pick ups. Oh man, each cake is perfection even if they are ones you don’t even like to try. My visit was for my co-workers and bring my girlfriend in to experience what she was missing. The wait can be very long from opening to closing. Whenever you go, it will always be an experience. While you wait to adopt your pastries, I mean pick your pastries, you can see how excitied a lot of people are to almost get picked by one of the Porto’s staff. So many choices and how do you pick?! I was there for the world and Porto’s famous: Cheese Rolls. Porto’s will always have a special on them. On my visit, it was $ 8.65 for a dozen. So, I got two dozen of them. My girlfriend was curious about the sweet bread($ 0.85). So, we got one to try it out. Of course, I can’t see anything wrong with anything Porto’s. The only thing I do see wrong is when you pay. It can be a pain to be waiting when you have one customer order HALF the store and you have to wait for the registers to open. Porto’s should be in your bookmarks right now. If you haven’t been, you are missing out on one of SoCal’s hotspots. I heard there was a West Covina location coming. If that is true, Porto’s will be in your neck of the woods soon. I do hope there is one in Anaheim. It would probably be the second most visited site next to the mouse. Oh please, bring some Cheese Rolls and Potato Balls to Orange County! Unilocal…My passion is not to write my reviews, but to share my experiences with you. Take that journey and share your story.

Porto’s is a family owned Cuban bakery and café, with 3 locations in Southern California: Burbank, Glendale, and Downey, with a location opening in Buena Park in 2016⁄2017. It does not matter which location you visit, finding parking is the first hurdle. Once you find parking, chances are you’ll be greeted at the front door with a line to get in. The line at Porto’s is as famous as their pastries. Once you past the front door line, you enter into 1 of 2 lines to place your order. Fortunately, the line moves quickly. On this visit, we discovered that if you just want a sandwich or beverage(no pastry item), you can go to the(third) express line. The express line at 11:00 am on a Saturday had only 3 people. We decided not to stand in the pastry line(even though we really wanted a famous Porto’s potato ball) and just chose 2 sandwiches: the Cuban Sandwich and the Pan Con Lechon(roast pork sandwich). The next hurdle after placing your order is finding a place to sit, if you wish to dine in. I have been to this location and Burbank, and the Downey location seems slightly larger than the Burbank location, probably because they offer patio dining. We were fortunate to find a table outside, and fortunately the weather was not too cold. From our table, you could see the line of people waiting to get inside. The Cuban Sandwich(Slices of slow roasted pork, ham, Swiss cheese, pickles, Cuban dressing on Cuban bread) was excellent, but my Pan Con Lechon(Slow roasted pulled pork shoulder, mojo de ajo and pickled red onions served on freshly baked on Cuban bread) was even better. The pork was juicy and tender, and full of flavor. Yes, it was worth the trouble, and priced right at less than $ 6 a sandwich. When we left, the line to enter the store was still wrapped outside the building, and people were circling for a parking spot. I guess this is what you have to do in order to get a hold of some delicious Porto’s food and pastry… and I would do it again. Per the website, the top selling items at Porto’s are: Cheese Roll™ — cheese filled pastry Refugiado™ — guava and cheese pastry Potato Ball™ — stuffed potato Meat Pie Chicken Croquette Cuban Cake Mango Mousse Cuban Sandwich Pan con Lechon

Cheeeeeese rollsss! be creating more rolls on my tummy. OH. My. god. Porto’s need to move up to the bay area, pretty please. I love love love their cheese rolls. Every bite is a taste of perfection! The line surprisingly was not that long, but I did go on a weekday. I’m sure this place gets crackin’ on weekends when everybody is free to roam out and about. I did not realize there were two bakery sides until after I ordered and walked over to wait for my coffee. Besides the bakery goods,(cough CHEESEROLLS), there are also sandwiches, cuban dish plates, and drinkssss. No, not the ones you drink for a night getaway. The ones you drink to get you through the day. You know? the ones with caffeine. Get the Porto’s iced coffee. It’s one of their specialties. Not too strong. Not too sweet. Just right. At least, for me. Everyone has their own personal coffee taste-sweetness ratio. Try it out though! Just probably not 2 hours before your bedtime or else maybe you’ll be awake for daysss. depending on what caffeine does to your bod. Cheese rolls. Get it. Done. Their potato balls are apparently good too but my heart will always belong to their cheese rolls. They’re just that amazing!

That box you get excited for when you see it on the dessert table at a party! All the things I’ve ever tried from here have been delicious. with quality items that are prepared to perfection. Great flavor that’s not too sweet and never stale. When someone brings Porto’s to a potluck, you are likely to find the popular Cheese Rolls. these are great go-to items that everyone enjoys and become addicted to. All the other pastries are very good as well, especially the different flavored strudels(I like the Guava Cheese). I haven’t tried any of their hot foods except for the Potato Balls. these things are great, especially with the taco-type meat stuffed inside. This bakery chain is super popular. I’ve been to a few locations and they seem to always be packed. I really appreciate their great customer service. All their workers who take orders are very friendly and helpful. They’re also very efficient and organized. I came during Christmas Eve and the line wrapped all the way around the building next to it. What would be a 2-hour wait time at Disneyland only took about 45 minutes. I was really surprised and pleased at their efficiency. Well done, Porto’s!

To be honest, I never actually heard about this«Porto’s» until this year when some of my Berkeley friends started raving about the Cuban Bakery. Not a big fan of pastries and bakeries myself, I didn’t pay much attention to it. A few weeks back on a drive up to NorCal, my friend let me try some of her cheese rolls from Porto’s. After a few bites, I thought the rolls were pretty good. Again, not my kind of chow, but for a pastry, it was bomb. I knew I had to one day check out the real bakery myself though. Fast forward to the present, and my friend and I came upon Porto’s on a pitstop in Downey. Now, keep in mind that this was a Tuesday morning around 10am. In all honesty I have never seen so many people all crowded around in one bakery before, First of all, Porto’s Bakery was HUGE. There was an entire building devoted to Porto’s. Second of all, the line was HUGE as well. We were able to order pretty quickly, but I was impressed by how many people flocked over to try Porto’s. I ordered 12 dozen cheese rolls(they come in individual or dozen and each is 60c). The two things you’ll notice about eating them are that they’re very sweet and very delicious with the cheese in the middle. In my opinion, they’d taste better if they’re warm but I’m sure they have other items for that. Overall, I like Porto’s. I will come back to check out what else they have and I will probably up my rating. For now, I’m still not the biggest pastry guy, but maybe Porto’s can change that. Eat well and prosper, –ß

I’ve been wanting to come here for a while, and it did not disappoint. We were planning a trip to Buena Park and this was a no-brainer. I’m hopelessly addicted to Filipino cheese balls. When Walter described the cheese rolls here I was intrigued and then when I scrolled the photos, I knew I was coming. So yes, it’s crowded. We came on a Saturday morning right before Christmas. The lines are pretty organized though and it goes by fast. A good system is to take two people like we did, one stays in line and the other goes up to the cases to see what they want to order so that when you get your order taker, you’re ready. They just take your order, go and grab everything in the back, and then get in line for the register. Some patrons seemed confused about the process and got disgruntled thinking their orders were being taken out of order. In actuality they had simply taken too long deciding what they wanted and other workers beat them to the register to ring up. This is why a buddy system helps, plus if you’re buying a lot or getting drinks too, you’ll need that buddy. There is so much to look at in here. Too much to taste in one or even a dozen trips if you’re being honest. I’ll definitely be back to try more of the menu, not just because I’m hooked on those flaky cheese rolls. I mentioned to a friend that I was coming and she was so excited. She said none of her other friends would ever bring her anything from here, the lines were too long! Haha. We brought her a box of goodies for the holidays. We also dropped off a box for another friend we told about Porto’s. He had never heard of the magic of cheese rolls. Hope they changed your life, Omar! While in line a lovely woman was passing out samples of their spinach and feta croissants. I had specifically wanted to try these. They were so buttery and delightful. I fell in love. The spinach was fresh and it had the right amount of feta, nothing too pronounced. I also ordered an apple empanada and a chicken empanada, while I liked the filling in both the crust was too thick and hard for my liking, I don’t think I’d order their empanadas again. I also tried the guava rolls. So good. Whoever thought of these is genius! What a great flavor, so perfect with their flaky pastry. And I had a bite of Walter’s chocolate croissant, that was delicious too. My lil dude had a big cinnamon roll and I can report that that too was great. As was his big sugar cookie. He’s such an unadventurous soul haha, gotta love him though. We had a great friend visiting us in town the next day, so we got extra. She just loved the cheese rolls! I will have to figure out a way to next day express some to her. Thank you Porto’s for changing the way I think about cheese desserts. I’ll be back.

My friends and siblings recommended me to come here. I asked why? They said you won’t regret it. We were in the city from going to Disneyland. We got here 10 minutes before it open and there was already a line. It wasn’t too bad, only 10 people. When we got in, we were already helped since they have a lot of workers helping you. We got the cheese rolls, kisses, potato balls, and guava cake. I really wanted to try the meat pie, but it wasn’t ready yet =(. My favorite is gotta be the kisses! The chocolate fudge in the middle melts your mouth =P. I wish they have a location in the bay area so I can come here all the time! This is the best baked goods I had in a long time. When I’m in Anaheim, Porto’s bakery would always be my stop.

Pretty overwhelmed by this place as we came here during lunch. There are two lines for pastries and lunch. We got there around 11:30 on a Friday and it was already 20 people deep in all lines. The line moves pretty quickly and there was a guy that was passing out bread to those in line. I was fine with it because I needed the time to figure out what I wanted to order. We also were a little confused on how to order as you order things from the display case first and then any other items listed in the menu up top are ordered at the cashier. Ultimately settled on getting a bunch of pastries: — Cheese rolls — it’s almost like a croissant but filled with cheese and topped with sugar that’s been slightly caramelized — Chorizo Croquette — tasty — slightly spicey, but a little more dough than I probably wanted. — Chicken empanada — good, not as good as the chorizo. — Steak Torta: I thought this was the best thing that we got there. The steak was flavorful and juicy. It came with tomatoes, lettuce, and plantain chips. The chips were a nice healthy option compared to regular potato chips. Good spot. The ordering could get a little bit better. Didn’t really know what to order from the display(no where on the top menu). Good popular spot!

This place definitely has many highlights that includes impressive restaurant experience. The facility in itself is very spacious and welcoming. It looks very inviting and clean. In the front, there are rows of pastries and other delicious treats presented for patrons to salivate for. All the food looks decadent and colorful. It looks like a work of art. We had a porto’s cake for our wedding and it was terrific. I absolutely loved it. It was beautifully decorated and delicious. While I love this restaurant, I think the food is less impressive. The potato balls are kind of dry and not flavorful. The pastries are okay. I recommend the guava and cheese pastry. Aside from that, food is okay. Everything is fairly priced though. I recommend coming here but don’t think the food is all that great where you wait about 30 min in line for. Maybe come here once and while but not my fav restaurant in Downey.

I prefer this Porto’s location over the other ones. They have their own parking with friendly attendants. On busy periods, they actually have valet service. There’s ample street parking too unlike the ones in Glendale and Burbank. The service here is also top notch. No matter how long the line is, you will be in and out in about 30 minutes. The average wait line is about 10 mins and 5 mins to get your drink(if ordered). The set-up is more open and less confusing. The pastry display will make you want to order every single item. So make sure you have a budget and plenty of self control when coming here. The cheese rolls from this location are actually crispy and flaky. Spinach croissant are on point. Cookies are addicting. Everything is addicting! Whatever you order here will be delicious! Just go. No regrets!

A large meeting at the Coca Cola plant in Downey had me in the area and my two co-workers were excited to introduce me to Portos. They both had been ranting and raving about the place and if you couple that with my craving for Cuban food, there was no passing this opportunity up. When we arrived there was a long line that was well organized and moving expeditiously. Nice part about having to wait a little while in line was it gave me a chance to more than scan the menu. My eyes made their way down the list and stopped on the BISTECA! And that’s exactly what I ordered. Well, that and the vanilla cupcake – how could I resist as they’re cleverly displayed right in front of you as you make your way up to the counter. Served with plantains, the Bistec comes warm on a toasted ciabatta. At first bite, I knew exactly why there was a long line here and why I would wait on it again. Fantastic sandwich with all the wonderful spices you’d expect with Cuban cuisine. The cupcake was mediocre, but a mood enhancer. Who doesn’t like candy sprinkles with lunch? I’m definitely looking forward to my next meeting in Downey, if only to eat again at Portos!
