Just signed up today to start swimming again after moving to the area and a looooong hiatus from such exercise. Super friendly, helpful staff to myself and others around. Beautiful pool available at various times seven days a week for lap swims Huge array of all kinds of exercise equipment in various areas which I took a quick walk-through but didn’t try. Not crowded at all early evening(five-ish) on a weekday. Men’s locker room immaculately clean, huge number of lockers available(about 5-foot so large enough) and very large shower area with conveniently-arranged fixtures. All this for a fair price, no gimmicks, no 50-year contracts like some places. Various training programs offered. Certainly family-oriented and kid-friendly, but plenty of singles getting their exercise on as well. Five stars for now, will update as I learn more.

Overpriced for what you have access to for free. Don’t want you to cancel your membership, but make you continue to pay for services until the end of your monthly charge.

We had been members here for about a year and a half, and it was all fine until we canceled our membership(due to a pending move), and I asked to cancel the summer classes I had enrolled my kids in. Between the 5 classes I asked to cancel(way back on June 5), I should have a refund coming to me of $ 453. I have spoken to the person I was referred to on the phone multiple times, and sent her multiple email requests, but my money still has not been refunded. I requested to cancel the enrollment before any of the classes had started. So, beware. Because I am still waiting for my refund, I didn’t have any money left to enroll my kids in other classes, so their summer was a bit disappointing. **Update** After receiving no further replies from the PIC at Indian Boundary, I contacted the supervisor, who informed me that the PIC no longer worked at that location. She had promised to submit the request for my refund. That was October 17. Today is November 2 and I have still not received any of the refund.

My family go either this YMCA or Kroehler YMCA as we live kind of in the middle. The facility is newer than the Naperville one, is fairly clean and offers quite a bit programs for kids and adults. The staff has been very helpful every time I needed the help. I loved the Free Zumba session they offer vs Kroehler charges a fee for Zumba. Both of instructors are great and energetic. Kids also liked the swimming lessons. The family locker room is nice and has plenty of lockers and shower room. However the shower space in lady locker room is small and old.

Overpriced, crazy that you pay extra for yoga, inconvenient class times, and free weight room feels like an unfriendly sausage-fest.

I’m a city-dweller who has the good fortune of working out in Downers Grove. Heh. Anyhow, now that I-290 is a wash for the next few months, I decided start going to this Y after work instead of fighting the traffic going back in the city. As far as Ys go, I think this one is pretty nice. The facility is clean, and my limited interactions with staff members have been friendly. They have several basketball courts, which are surrounded by an indoor track. The cardio area is outfitted with a few flat-screens, and the equipment is new-ish. And yes, as vicky y. stated, they have those mini-TVs hooked up to the treadmills. The weight machines are located in the same room as the cardio equipment, and they’re also fairly new. I haven’t used the free weight area at all, but it looks decent, and I’ve noticed it’s usually not horribly crowded when I’m there after work. Oh, and they have a skateboard/rollerblade ramp area outside of the front entrance, which looks pretty cool. My only gripe about the facility concerns the showers. I’ve only used them once, and that was a hellish experience. I’m guessing these shower heads were installed during the Kennedy administration. They’re positioned strangely and totally immobile, and I ended up having to stand against the shower curtain to get into the stream of water. Just weird.

typical modest ymca building and décor, but they’ve got these advanced cardio and weight machines that tracks all your workouts and emails you a monthly report. sweet! plus they’ve got mini-tv’s hooked up to all their treadmills.
