History

Established in 1998.

The Academy of Dance Arts opened in August of 1998 in Downers Grove, IL — about 20 miles west of downtown Chicago and started with three spacious state-of-the-art studios. The Academy has now expanded to 6 spacious state-of-the-art studios. All studios have a sprung wooden sub-floor with Marley flooring, mirrors that extend completely down to the floor, excellent lighting, air conditioning, and professional sound systems.

All major forms of dance are taught: Ballet (variations, Pointe), Jazz, Hip-Hop, Modern, Lyrical, Tap — to all ages.

I am an alumni student of Sherry Moray before and after she opened her own studio. Her ballet classes, coaching and mentoring is the reason I had the opportunities to join professional dance companies and tour the world through dance for the last 15 years. The staff of teachers and state of the art facility is out standing. I am very excited to hear Rachel Kuhr is back on faculty and heading the Young Children’s Dance Department. I only wish they offered more classes for adults

I Highly recommend Academy of Dance Arts. I started as a student with Sherry when I was 7 years old. Currently I am a professional ballerina with Joffrey Ballet, and have been for the past 13 years. I credit most of my ballet and dance education to Sherry as well as the school, teachers, and people involved. Overall I think the environment is warm as well as challenging for students. Open to people and student of all ages. Clearly there is quality training coming from the school with the alumni that are throughout the world. The facilities are incredible. A beautiful space that allows students to flourish and work well without restrictions. The training is some of the top available in Illinois. It is a wonderful school that students can receive numerous levels of education and life growth.

I was a dancer since I was about 4 years old. I used to attend this academy since the fourth grade up til my junior year of high school. This school was incredible. The teachers, the students, the staff. All you can see from them was determination. I stopped dancing because of school and because of how much the classes cost. They get expensive when you go there for a long time.
Many of the teachers were featured in different magazines and performed in different countries.
I only gave this academy three stars because of the prices and the parking. The parking area is so small. Like SO SMALL. When its a day for rehearsal for a big show, how do they expect the hundred students to park in a lot that only fits about 20 cars? I was on hip hop team for SODC and the parking became absolutely ridiculous. I wanted to park across the street at the gymnastics lot since they didn’t have as many cars, but they got mad. :(
Anyways, this place is good for every age group who has a passion for dancing. Unfortunately, my passion faded.
