J & C Auto Service

I called on a Thursday and they weren’t able to get me in until Monday, which was just fine since it wasn’t an emergency. When they checked out my car, it was exactly what (my mechanic brother) said it would be. (He usually fixes my car but couldn’t.). They could have easily ripped me off of for the more expensive fix but didn’t. They quoted me, then apologized when I came in to tell me they had to spend a little more…$ 4 that is. I would recommend to anyone and wouldn’t hesitate going back. Thank you!

Reliable, expert and honest work, excellent customer service, fair prices and quick service. J & C is very generous with advice, always on target in my experience, and I never have felt pressured there to add unneeded services. I found them years ago because they were recommended on the Car Talk website.

my headlight had been broken for a while, but i just hadn’t had the time or money to fix it. finally i had both. checked out this place due to the great reviews. the place lived up to the great reviews, too.
unfortunately i had to wait a week before they could fit me in, but that wasn’t a big deal. i had already put off getting this fixed so what’s another week?! finally when i was able to make it in, the guy at the counter was very nice. he remembered i had called last week and made an appointment. that’s a good sign. he informed me that the guy who fixes headlights wasn’t there yet, but he’d give me a call when the car was fixed. that wasn’t a problem, since i definitely needed it done either way.
since i didn’t get an estimated time when the car would be finished, i figured i’d be waiting at least 2 – 3 hours (repair time + whenever the mechanic shows up). again, not a big deal. i had the whole day to off, so what do i care?! plus, i can’t really go anywhere too far without my car. i got a phone call about an hour later informing me that my car was all set! nice!
went to pick it up. over the phone i was quoted about $ 100 or depending on how long it took to fix the headlight. i paid $ 76, so not too bad. i was definitely happy it wasn’t more than that!
i’ll be back to this place with any other car repairs i have!

Professional, nice and honest. Had gone to a place downtown that couldn’t figure out what was wrong with my car. Another place wanted to do 2 – 3 grand worth of repairs. Came here, they replaced my fan belt for a reasonable price, and didn’t recommend unnecessary work.
Very easy to come in, made appt right when they opened and came in ten min later. My husbands family had been using them for years and love them too.
Nice to find a place you can trust.

One of the hardest things to do in life is to find a mechanic that you trust. I lucked out. Heck, my whole family lucked out. We found a family of mechanics in Downers Grove that are not only trustworthy, but stand behind their work. I will NEVER go to anyone else for car repairs.
When I walk in the door, they know my name, my car and ask me about my family members BY NAME and their cars! Talk about personalized customer service!!!
I recall going in there with a gas leak in my car. I started doing the math in my head of how much replacing the gas tank would be. They came out from the back in a few minutes and said that I was all set. I was very confused how they could have done this. They then told me that I didn’t need a new tank at all, just a new gas screen filter thing that ran me a whopping $ 20! Most other places would have taken me for thousands, instead they have won my family over for as long as they are in service.
I could go on and on about them, but I won’t. Just trust me — trust them. They are always busy for a reason — they are the best!

I can’t say enough good things about this garage. We went to them when we moved to the neighborhood about 12 years ago and just got lucky that it’s one of the best garages.
Our whole family drives used/​older cars. The reason we can keep them going so long (one has 250,000 miles) is because of these guys.
They’re honest and will work with you.
They’re also gotten us out of more than one tight spot when our cars have broken down.
If you’re not satisfied with your mechanic or looking for one, we all highly recommend them.

* Joe Saladino, Jr. has proven himself to be a sound business owner who continues the unfailing courtesy of his late father, Joe, Sr., and his uncle, Chuck — and whose word is likewise his bond. In addition to perpetuating the character of J & C’s business, he has been innovative in his own right, adding competitive tire & battery availability, state-​of-​the-​art 4-​wheel alignment & balancing equipment, and in-​house towing & road service capabilities, to give J & C customers pretty much a single-​source option for maintaining their cars & trucks. He has also been ready to keep up with Internet-​age technologies.
* As J & C’s scheduler and service writer, Mike Duncan manages to present such a consistent, low-​key politeness it belies his knowledge of auto technology and behind-​the-​scenes resourcefulness, for example, in finding economical replacements for long-​obsolescent tires on one of our cars, now 28 years old.
* Wayne Browne, J & C’s lead technician, has time after time come up with successful — and cost effective — solutions to our cars’ mechanical, electrical/​electronic, hydraulic and roadworthiness issues. The most dramatic demonstration of his expertise was when — contrary to predictions of insurance adjusters and other mechanics that it would never run again — he brought back to life one of our cars which was submerged up to the seat cushions in DuPage County’s record rainfall. It has run fine ever since.
* As one of J & C’s senior mechanics, Mike Santilli has consistently gone above and beyond the routine steps, from simple oil & lube appointments (checking belts & lights, etc.) to major repairs (cleaning out accumulated grit & road debris in the engine compartment, for instance).
* The quiet, always cheerful Hector Casitllo, another of J & C’s mechanics, comes to mind as just another example of unexpected courtesy and conscientiousness.
These are only some of the J & C people and accomplishments that have justified our reliance on them for all of our autos and virtually all of our maintenance services over the years.

I «discovered» these guys 4 – 5 years back. I’d grown tired of the Saturn dealership charging me $ 100 plus every year to «fix» the AC on my Saturn only to have to take it back the next spring for another $ 100 repair. J&C found the root problem, fixed it and it’s been working fine ever since. They charged me a fraction of the Saturn garage.
Since then my wife and I have gone back to J&C for all our repair jobs. All of the work has been solid and priced very reasonably. They are fair, fast and very nice to work with.
I cannot recommend these guys highly enough on all counts… It’s a joy to find an auto shop where I don’t feel like I’m getting sold work I don’t need and/​or charged too much for the work I do need.
